Unfortunately I've got to go against George in this one.
Should be one of first picked for the ODI side, but SCG has to be one of the unluckiest cricketers of all time. He actually has a better record (averages) than Warney, but has rarely got a game.
Would be a walk up start for any other team.
In saying that though, he has never had the same ability to consistantly turn a game when needed like Warney, hence why Warney always got the nod.
Never done himself any favours by being a tosser either......although I suspect a lot of that was brought about through sour grapes (understandably so).

Hoggs useless anyone can chuck a few chinaman's down the wicket.

I wish someone would cut that tongue of his [that he sticks out 24/7] and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

Magill by a mile , pity he has a big mouth and the selectors don't like him.

A friend of mine's cousin was picking up players from the SCG in his cab.

From memory he said it was Jnr, Shane Lee and one other. They got in as quick as they could and told the driver so step on it has Stu Magill was making a bee line to the cab to join them.

Apparently the conversation in the cab immediately turned to S.M and what they really thought of him.

From what I was told it was quite unsavoury

Yes, it's well known it's not the selectors that object to him.........

no need to bag george, lovely bloke. would struggle at test level, he needs protection on the boundary and would get milked in the longer version of the game.
you only need to look at SM record in england pre representative cricket for an indication of the cabbie conversation

macgill has to get the job. but hopefully big seasons from cullen bailey and dan cullen to put the pressure on. What about who opens the batting with hayden im a brad hodge fan so maybe make hussey an opener and hodge can bat down the order, hodge could open though
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Hodge would battle to open for the Walgert Under 13's at present !!! :x
It's strictly between Chris Rogers and Phil Jacques.
Unfortunately after Rogers dominated all last season, Jacques has been the much better player over the County season, so no doubt he will get the nod - because he's a NSWman.........

rodgers is nothing on jaques wouldnt be allowed to wipe his arse

Warnie is about to get a formal gig with cricket aust. coaching and developing the guys you mention. His knowledge and the positivity he projects will be very valuable(ps he's err coaching jemima khan i read recently..NICE :P )

As for opener...hodge not a snowballs chance in hell of getting a gig and order being reshuffled re hussey imo, jaques will get the nod and not because he's a New south welshman tivers but because he's first cab off the rank/incumbent if you like  if he doesnt perform your WA boy should be next in line if in form.

theres a market going on sportsbet.com.au for who the next opening batsman will be and the last time i checked about a fortnight ago, hodge was favourite from jaques and rogers
  • MightAndPowerMightAndPower    4,148 posts
i see interesting...im not a knock on hodge but dont like the idea of hussey changing in order(altho am sure he could do it well)...hodge has done ok but also faltered a bit at times, but is he as good as jaques??? im not sure with either guy i must confess.

they asked huss the other day if he would rather open or bat in the middle order, and he said he wouldnt complain about opening but he prefers the middle order because he likes the different situations every time he goes in

How on Earth and on what basis could Hodge get the guernsey ???

And the same, how is Jacques "first cab off the rank" ?
Rogers absolutely pulled his pants down last summer. If Langer had pulled out mid season Rogers would have been a walk up start.
The English County season has levelled things out a bit, but the first couple of shield games will surely make the decision for them........

ablett big call on chris not in same league as Jacques. Performances say otherwise.

County form is no guide, it is like playing z grade in widgemooltha

I'll say - Rodgers took the Domestic player of the year award last season. That makes him #1 of all domestic players, not just #1 between these two !!!
Where did Jacques come in on that award ?

    George going well today.
Bowling in the last 10 overs, given away no more than 5 in any over - with Dhoni at the crease !!! (will get pounded his last two no doubt now though :?

makes you wonder how aussies could have left him out of T20, form has been consistent

Re Rogers v Jacques - maybe neither after this match.
    Jacques out for 13.
WA, first 5 wickets down for 30 runs !!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Rogers - 9.

6/38 now, Mark Cameron has 5/17 from 6 overs

mcgill is a liability whilst Hogg is hopeless in the longer form of the game.

Now is the time to give a young guy a go, Cameron White can bat and reckon he would be a wicket taker in a good side such as Australia.
