This report from a UK paper on a Greyhound trainer in Britain
A GREYHOUND trainer got his dog to romp to victory - using VIAGRA.
Cruel Anthony Fowler, 61, placed big bets on Jake after feeding him the sex drug.
He earlier ensured Jake would have long odds by making him lose races - slowing him down with boiled CANNABIS.
Fowler's ruse emerged when cops quizzed him after a tip-off he was selling cannabis, magistrates in Hartlepool were told.
John Ellwood, prosecuting for the RSPCA, said: "He fed his greyhounds cannabis when he wanted them to lose." Fowler also injected dogs with the steroid nandrolone when he wanted dogs to win.
Mr Ellwood said Fowler ran Jake at unlicensed meetings.
He showed an RSPCA officer Viagra tablets which made dogs "run their heads off". The court was told Viagra can inflame a dog's blood vessels while cannabis can cause them to hallucinate and suffer convulsions. Fowler admitted animal cruelty and administering a drug knowing it to be poisonous or injurious. He will be sentenced next week.
Jake was put down after being injured in a race. Trudy Baker, of a greyhound protection group Greyt Exploitations, said: "The industry is self-regulating and it's just not done properly."
