Track condition key to Sepoy trial

Trainer Peter Snowden says he will inspect Werribee before deciding whether star colt Sepoy trials at the Victorian provincial track on Friday.

The Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper winner was floated from Snowden's Warwick Farm stables to his Flemington base over the weekend and is on target to resume in the Listed Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 13.

"He may trial at Werribee. I'm going to go down on Thursday to have a look at the track because they say sometimes it can get very loose and sandy," Snowden said.

"So I just want to have a look at it.

"If he doesn't trial at Werribee, he'll trial at Flemington the following Friday.

"He's not far away from racing which is good."

The Elusive Quality colt, who became the fifth two-year-old to complete the Blue Diamond Stakes - Golden Slipper double, is a $3.80 favourite with TAB Sportsbet for the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 10 but is listed as doubtful.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Smart Missile is at $5, just shading Sepoy's stablemate Helmet at $5.50.

Snowden has said he wants Sepoy to do all his spring racing in Melbourne with the Group Two Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 3 and the Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 30 on his program.

Later, the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on October 29 and the $1 million Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) on November 5, both at Group One level at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week, are also options.

Stablemates Glissade and Parables were also on the float and are also scheduled to resume at Caulfield on August 13.
