The internationalisation of Victoria?s Spring Racing Carnival has continued with a trio of international horses entered for sprint races during this year?s Melbourne Cup Carnival. Racing Victoria?s international recruiting officer Leigh Jordon said it has been ?a priority over the past 12 months to foster interest in races outside the Melbourne Cup?.
UK Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes winner Society Rock & Godolphin-owned Delegator have both been nominated for the $1 million Gr1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) at Flemington on November 5. Potentially awaiting them (in what is the 8th leg of the Global Sprint Challenge) will be Australia?s unbeaten superstar Black Caviar (defending the title she won by 4-lengths last November). The James Fanshawe-trained Society Rock (as a winner of the 5th leg of this year?s Global Sprint Challenge) is eligible for a $600,000 bonus if successful at Flemington.
Hong Kong?s recently crowned Champion 2YO Griffin Bear Hero has been nominated for the $1 million Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 29. The unbeaten David Ferraris-trained Australian-bred colt Bear Hero will potentially take on Australia?s star 3YO Sepoy.

Its all speculation, honestly i am completely biased because i don't rate anything that A Cummings trains. If it was trained by waterhouse or one of the other more fashionable stables i would probably be saying it is a champion as well :lol:

Wednesday, 17 August 2011: The W.S. Cox Plate is off the agenda for Sydney's star mare More Joyous but she is making solid progress toward a Melbourne spring campaign and a clash with Golden Slipper hero Sepoy, according to John Singleton's racing manager Duncan Grimley.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained mare, who recently swept the NSW Horse of the Year Awards, has had her spring preparation delayed due to a joint issue but is back and ready to trial this Friday.
?She has done well since she has come back in, she has been back in about six and a half weeks,? Grimley said on Sky Sports Radio.
?Gai wanted to give her a good opportunity to have a gallop on a good surface so she is going to go around in a trial on Friday and I think it will be a soft trial for her while she is getting fit.?
More Joyous won four races in a row last spring including the group one George Main Stakes and Toorak Handicap before finishing fourth in the Cox Plate; however a late start to her campaign has taken the weight-for-age championship off the agenda.
?I think we are (ruling the Cox Plate out), the plan was she would run over 1200m at the end of September and if that is the case to get her to 2040m four weeks later would be an impossible scenario.? Grimley continued.
?At this stage she is pencilled in to the Manikato, the Tristarc and the Myer.?
A Manikato start puts More Joyous on track for an early spring clash with champion two-year-old and Golden Slipper winner Sepoy who began his campaign last Saturday with a brilliant win in the Vain Stakes at Caulfield.
?It will be (a competitive race at this time of the year) but people need to realise it is a $500,000 group one race and I don't know if there is a $500,000 race in Sydney this spring,? Grimley added.
Partnering More Joyous on her spring campaign will be quality staying mare and last year's AJC Oaks winner Once Were Wild.
The daughter of Johannesburg (USA) scraped into last year's Melbourne Cup with a third in the Lexus on Derby Day and Waterhouse and Singleton will be hoping they can get her back there again this year.
Once Were Wild will by-pass the Sydney spring and begin her Melbourne Cup campaign in either the Let's Elope or Makybe Diva Stakes.

Bookmakers across Australia confirmed on-going surprise early Melbourne Cup support for 4YO German Gr2-winner Lucas Cranach (Mamool-Lots Of Love, by Java Gold) which has firmed from 150-1 in to 30-1.
Lucas Cranach has won 5 of his 7 starts; his multiple Gr1-winning sire Mamool was favourite for the 2003 Melbourne Cup before finishing 23rd, but returned the following year to finish 7th.
This morning The Herald-Sun reported: ?Hall-Of-Fame trainer Lee Freedman left for England yesterday to supervise the campaign of Caulfield-Melbourne Cups plunge horse Lucas Cranach. Freedman will meet Lucas Cranach at Newmarket tomorrow & train him from Sir Henry Cecil's yard.
The horse is booked to leave for Australia on September 23.? The newspaper also noted: ?One part-owner is believed to have backed the horse to win $600,000.? Lucas Cranach ?has been bought by Australasian Bloodstock clients with 20% owned by Freedman stable clients?. Australasian Bloodstock's Luke Murrell said Lucas Cranach ?would be aimed at the Cups & Hong Kong & Dubai campaigns?. (Aug 19)
Meanwhile trainer Gai Waterhouse confirmed last year?s Gr1 Caulfield Cup-winning 5YO gelding Descarado (High Chaparral-Karamea Lady, by Lord Ballina) will bypass this year?s renewal (2400m at Caulfield on October 15) & instead target the Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m at Moonee Valley on October 22) & Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m at Flemington on November 1). Descarado will trial at Randwick this morning & then ?probably head to Melbourne & start his campaign there?. (Aug 19)
Acopop very good second up. Of to tackle Whobe at the valley next start. Is a big ask but don't sell him short, he does like the valley. Hallowell Belle very good on sat I thought. Early markets very hard to find the cups winners IMO. Obvious statement but you just have to look at recent history. Amercain from os hits his straps when he gets here, Myluckyday really come from no where, Shocking came from no where in 8 odd months to win his cup. Think the big cup winner may be a new kid on the block style this year.
On the German horse, from what I hear of the corporates willingness to take big holds I'm wondering where they got on for $600 000?
