175,017 was the total attendance in 2012/13. Therefore, according to the Financial Report, 17,433 people attended last years Melbourne Cup Day with only 10,913 on Perth Cup Day. For the sake of the discussion, let's say 20,000 came along to Super Saturday, then that leaves 126,671 for the remaining 49 Saturday meetings and 39 Wednesday meetings, as 91 meetings were held in total for the year.

Now anyone who has been to a Wednesday meeting, knows that there is around 15% of the crowd of a Saturday on any given day, so that makes the average midweek attendance of just 487 people, and  2,197 race fans turning up on average for Saturday's.

To say 'an average Saturday' doesn't take into account stakes days such as the Karrakatta Plate, Derby Day etc as those figures are not supplied in the Financial Report to Members.

Attendance was 17,695 which was pleasing and compares favourably with Brisbane (16k) and Sydney (23k).

if there were 18,000 on course i'll walk to china.

Ha Ha Falcon, looks like we're walking to China - that figure astounds me.

Not sure I'll get a job estimating attendance anytime soon!

Got a feeling that the cagey old bastard that we know as "the falcon" must have had access to the offical numbers, as they were a few hundred short of us waving him good bye on a lifelong(at his age) trek..

I won't worry myself to correct this diatribe. For readers of this forum all the statements above are simply wrong. Pandora has NFI and just does not understand the roles of RWWA and PR. It would be helpful that people who contribute to this site have some knowledge. Misinformation is a dangerous thing. It is scary that RWWA has been in place for a decade and still people don't know what it does. I say again, Pandora please don't embarrass yourself with ignorance.

Prove me wrong and I wont mention it again.

What does RWWA contribute to the training costs of PR

What % of stake money does RWWA pay

Does RWWA give PR a fee to run every meeting they conduct. Isnt it called a meeting or venue fee.

Think you need to look up the meaning of Diatribe.

Cant prove me wrong didn't think so. What statements are wrong. But I do agree with you that it is scary that SOME don't know after all this time how the industry and clubs are funded.

Goose, in 2011/2012 season they got a new tote manager who was a former RWWA employer with a great deal of experience , he made a lot of changes in regards to service and was very pro active  on race day , but he left after only 1 season.

Think they should get this bloke back what did he leave for? would be a good number I would think tote manager often think they could squeeze out a bit more turnover by the timing and placement of races but may be out of their control some what.

think the former tote manager got the hammer and tack from the current ceo. 17600 on melb cup day? must have hidden 7600 away from prying eyes. who did the count?
  • theduketheduke    284 posts

The previous Tote Manager was Mark Hamer who had vast experience both with the WA TAB and then RWWA in the area of tote operation. He was, at one time, the manager of TAB training services.

He left of his own accord as he did not see eye to eye with the CEO on a number of issues.

Just to clarify he was not sacked.
