If there is a thread already up for this then stay on that one, just that i cant seem to find it??

After the barrier draw, Barakey and Buffering to go stride for stride out front..The Rising sitting on the tail of the pair of them keeping them honest and PP sitting at the back watching it all unfold...

PP for me to get over the top of both the B's

Great race.

it was interesting to hear that Golan had set SOB for this and that last year he came over as an after thought....So he may be in it, but i didn't think the barrier would suit him as much as the barrier that PP has got will suit her...plus the 2kg weight difference

Yeah good horse SOB just want to see Barakey brain the best from the east

Looks a handy exacta have a feeling the buff might be over done now

Buff is a fresh horse I think he will get the drifts up on Saturday steered clear of the 2.4, PP and Barakey for me will have a bit on Buff just in case when he drifts...

Dunno what races you have all been watchin recently but everyone here seems to think Buffering isnt as good as Barakey? Surely two group 1s in a row against the best in Oz proves that he deserves to be clear favourite. I even think the $2.40 is a gift atm. Barakey needs to gain i reckon 5 lengths on his last run to get near Buffering.

I agree. They can't beat Buffering if he has travelled over well.

Buffering is no way a 5 Length better horse than Barakey we will see Saturday and this banter proves what a race it will be

SOB looks to be the value at 7 dollars maybe forgotten how good he is

Sure Buffering one two GR 1s and deserved them but home turf Ascot hot day GO Barakey

    If Barakey

Buffering will stalk Barakey to the corner and run over the top of him. Not saying that is indicitive of the quality of the two horses but at this point in time Buffering has him covered.

Even if he has travelled well the question will need to be where he is at in his prep. This wasn't his target race.. Spirit of Boom, Power Princess and Barakey have been set for this race.

I still think B & B will push each other along. SOB wont allow them to get too far ahead after last year and that leaves PP if she travels in the race well and isn't too far away.. The Rising if he can step up to the class and is only 1 or 2 lengths off coming on to the straight.

But you cant have them all..I'll be on PP as the winner..I actually think Buffering will work to the front and have Barakey gassed - or beaten half way down the straight. The last 100m will have PP, SOB and TR going after Buff..

Barakey is the unknown in my book..Will he be burnt off??..has he come back as good as he can be??..under extreme race pressure will he stand up to that total race pressure??? he is a quality animal and if the answer to all of them is YES, i'll do the majority of my dough and hope the saver i have on him is enough to break even..Reckon he deserves to win, just not confidnet he is at his best.

Now see how stupid i look afer the race!!!!!

  • PuntingTragicPuntingTragic    1,141 posts
You would have to think buffering has had his grand finals and yes has to travel here settle in but he is used to that

Barakey is a winner and he was only mowed down by PP late first up when the jock switched him off

He will strip fitter here he has drawn 2 Buff has drawn 8 that gives Barakey the edge at Ascot IMO

Barkey with a saver on SOB for me

I got $4 on Barakey raceday last year and said thank you as I handed over my cash!  Not confident this year on Bara as he meets the best (current) sprinter in the land!

Will be a great race - will have to watch the early races to know whether the swoopers can fly home late - and whether the front two - most likely Buff and Bara - may gas each other!

If they gas - it's an open race - PP, SOB, TR, ChqP, MOC etc

Agree that this is a bit of an after thought for Buffering - but that said, he has been coming here for a few months, so they'll have him finely tuned for this!

Buffering was always coming to Perth, it is no afterthought.

yep, when i said it wasn't his target race, i meant that the two group ones in Melbourne would have been higher on his wish list..i agree totally that he was always coming over and at the start of his campaign they probably said well if we dont get one in Melbourne we will have him cherry ripe for Perth.

So agree that it is well planned to be here..like SOB is....

Spirit of Boom been in career best form lately, but in group 2 and 3 races. How does everyone reckon he would have went in the Manikato in a genuine Group 1? Youll get the same answer on Saturday when the Buff flogs them.

I like Barakey as much as the next West Aussie but like everyone im after value and solid form. The buff will stalk Barakey to the turn then watch him glide away from him.

SoB set for this race and this race only. Big watch on this one. Could be the so called smoky outside the big 2.

$4.60 on sportsbet, they have Buffering at $2.25

Too hard for mine, these two will dominate up front (maybe the quinella is the best way to bet them) - but could be a swoopers race - then I like SOB (will need some luck) or PP from the back

Yes Barakey needs to improve on his first up run to win this but I suspect he would have with another 4 weeks work under his belt. Jimmy stated he was suspect at the 1200 first up and would strip a lot fitter.
I was happy to take the $5/$2 offered last week as i can't see him not finishing in the first 3.
Should be a cracking race regardless. May the best horse win

And times like these i wish you were a bookie.

Hows Travinator done since that run? oh yeah forms held up well, nawt! Buffering is a high class sprinter, Barakey is yet to prove he is high class.

Travinator hasn't raced since so how can you say form hasn't held up? Not to mention he finished last yet Barakey kicked off the hot pace to win. Not declaring Barakey but think he's gonna be hard to beat, didn't mind his first up run either looked to still have the speed just couldn't go that last 200m. No doubt he'll be a heap fitter now so can't see PP turning the tables, that was her chance to get him.
