Great win Finnegans Gold, carried 60.5 kilos, barrier 12 out of 12 led all the way to win by 2 1/4 lengths and broke the track record too! Just too much class.

Think every race was a track record yesterday.
One for Carey to look at.................... ? ;)
    (Distances / timing)

Mind you - probably first and only time races have been run at 1205, 1860, 2010m etc :)

races 3 and 6 and the cup were track records 2010m record was 2.05.12 new record 2.03.86 over a second faster.

Yeah, but have only had a race run over that (those) distances a few times (fewer than 5 according to R&S)

dunno about track records, but none of those races yesterday were especially fast.
the winner of the cup had a good trip, and ran a bit slower than i would expect for that type of race.

    "that type of race", carey.

you'd not want to feed 95% of them..a very poor class of horse.

Falcon, I'm glad I don't pay up for most of either but the winner has earnt $240000. not bad and all goes into Mueller's pocket, shame he is giving the game away when Finnegan retires. And to Carey It is a very small tight track, not suited to fast times like Ascot.

it matters not what the layout is, there is no comparison of times to ascot or anywhere else.
    just mount barker.
the cup race was the fastest time of the day, but it was also the strongest class, so should have been the fastest.
it was not especially fast though, as far as that class of race is concerned.

so i just had another look and it was the 3rd fastest time for that distance(2000-2010)
it was also the strongest class(it was scaled stronger this year than previous years).....that is the race class column.
the race speed column is how fast it actually ran, and that too is the fastest at mount barker, BUT, it was still slower than the race class(which is how fast i would expect it to run).
the race speed column is more an indication of how fast they ran rather than the actual time column, because other factors can contribute to the time like weather and going and wind and, and, and....

so yes it WAS the fastest, but still not as fast as it should have run!

Made your point, Finnegan's Gold dictated the speed, Shaun was very aware of 2 points. 1 60.5 kilos on his back and 2 he doesn't really go any further than 2000 m but he still did it with ease no pressure was put on him at anytime

also when i say how fast it should have run, then i am not really correct, as nobody should run quicker than they need to win the race.
if it needed to, maybe it could have.
either the others were not good enough to pressure him,or they let him run cheaply early(which is my opinion) so had too much left in the tank for them to make a race of it.

that was also the first time i can remember the mount barker cup being scaled off the metro template, which is a fair indication that it was stronger than your average mount barker cup

If people followed your opinion, we would have 6 races at Ascot every Saturday with about 5 or 6 runners and no Country racing.  Should change your moniker to "Mr Negative"
