Today on the Belmont Park Jockey Challenge these were the TAB Quinella odds.

Pike - Mitch Pateman $1.01 i mean seriously...and lost.
Pike - Knuckey $1.05 a deadheat result get 52.5 cents back in the dollar.
Pike - Warwick $1.08 deadheat get 54 cents back in the dollar.
Then the rest of the unsuccessful combinations with Pikey.
Kennedy $1.15
S. Parnham $1.15
Mcgruddy $1.20
Any unlisted hoop $1.30

Why would they bother ? It's an insult to the average persons intelligence dishing up odds like the above.

What were the odds for Pikey to win outright?

    Pike to win outright $1.01
Mitch Pateman second favourite at $9.
Instead of betting $1.01 about that losing Quinella and Pateman definetly no certainty to finish 1st or 2nd...how about betting a reasonable price of perhaps just $1.20 and entice a few big punters to possibly have a go at it. But Pike $1.01 and the same $1.01 odds for the Quinella....just amateurish.

Seven possible results between $1.01 and $1.30....could the tab possibly explain if that's fair ?
    It's difficult to justify.

There should be a statutory maximum % market to protect the innumerate.

Yes and beware if any co-mingling comes to some of these obscure international racing venues we now bet on in abundance where takeout rates can be on some bet types - wait for it - in excess of 40%.

One of the heads of Tabcorp said takeout rates don't have much effect on dividends.
Oh brother...believe that and you'll believe anything. Just look at the above figures.
Co-mingling can be a great thing - but check the fine print first.

HK jockey challenge is much fairer. I've been saying it forever, the 3-2-1 format is grossly unfair

Pike/Pateman quin paying a whopping 1.40 today.Love to see the turnover on the quinella and winner jockey markets for WA, in general can't be taking many bets at those ridiculous odds Riders posted surely...and dont want to going by their pricing 8-X

Just to give a loose example.
In a field of seven the Quinella the other week with Winx and the second favourite Le Romain paid $2.20.

Pikey is the Winx price - but definetly no $2.20 around in Quinella betting above. Tab dishes out $1.02 or on the weekend $1.01 and then another six combinations between $1.05 and $1.30.

On the odds above its about the equivalent of a 200/1 chance running second to Winx and the quinella paying $1.20.

That is not betting Riders....it's a cross between condescension, patronising & ridicule by the odds makers.

What about the percentages though. 100% is break even so we know the market has to be above that. Most would say 120-150% would be reasonable. The Pike combos alone are over 500%. That should be illegal. If you can't put a market up under 200%, you have no business offering odds.

Absolutely. Nobody ( well you wouldn't think so ) would go near those market %'s and the Tab should be brought to account on it.
The advantage of a forum like this - keep the bastards honest!

With 3 races to go, it's all over. The winning quinella will be Pike/C Staples. Bullet is 2 points behind Pike and is only a bolter's chance to overtake the great man and get the win.

Had a few coins on Pikeys six mounts for a place on the tote...$1.04, $1.10, $1.40, $1.10 who cares...but then a $2.40 that's got me sitting up for his final ride in the next on Kia Ora Star.

Cmon Pikey just sneak it over the line for a place!

He fair dinkum did sneak it over the line for third...you'd never back that horse in a race at Kojonup..talk about every possible hope.
Luckily had Pike guiding it to the cutaway rail or wouldn't have known it's way home!

The horse Drink The Rainbow....never heard of it! Except maybe in a Skittles commercial.
Pikey aboard and trained by Adam Durrant...fixed odds was $2.75 a place...gave it the run of the race, he carried that one over the line too.

Must be a real battler to have Durrant & Pike and for the Tab to bet $2.75 a drum.

The Roman just pipped in the last but will happily take the $3.30 the place.

For sure Para it had every hope and stuck on quite well. Can stay a bit unlike many of them...and in the right yard and Pike rode it a treat. Not a cracker for it - not even much money from tote punters over East who can crunch Pikeys mounts late.

Some of the horses that tailed out in the distance races today...ouch...they are the quintessential battling types. A few of them, the lights would still be on waiting for them to get home.

The Skittles commercial phrase is 'catch the rainbow'...just to get that straight.

Haha fair enough...thought it a 'g' rated version. I got skittled. Thought though there might have been another connotation or something.
