yes, he is without doubt a bloody good trainer. its hard to compare him to the trainers mentioned, their deeds were in the 60's/70's and 80's. different playing field in those days.
allocades must go to wallers team of assistant trainers, his horses a racing and winning everywhere under the care of his assistants. he cannot have a finger on every pulse, its impossible.
these assistants would be bloody good trainers if they decided to branch out.
trouble is, there is a glut of "trainers", one wonders if licences aren't in cornflake boxes..

Your right Falc,Waller is not the real trainer of all these horses,I liken him to a CEO of a large business firm with many a helping hand right down to the stablehand, who mucks out the stable.
Sure he gets all the glory, and I suppose some ones name has to be in the racebook.
Like you,I wonder why some of these people behind the scenes doing the real hands on training dont branch out, on their own.
It would have to be better for racing in general having a wider spread of different trainers, family,  friends and associates.
Maybe its the purple circle factor, thats hard to breach, with a few Studs ,Bloodstock agents ,Syndicators and a small numbers of Trainers with huge numbers, locking themselves in to reap the benefits of racing on the eastern seaboard
Chris Waller had to be a very good trainer and astute business man to get into the position he now find himself in,but its the numbers that he now has, that will continue to put him  in the limelight .
While Maher and Eustace have 543 horses on their books, Waller at 455 has 200 more than the next biggest players James Cummings and Waterhouse and Bott who are around the 250 mark..
Thats a lot of bloody horses and the turnover would be humungus
    ..
Some of the great trainers of years gone by, would not have had these sort of numbers in a lifetime, let alone on the books at one time.
In the 19/20 season Waller headed the list of the top 20 trainers in Aust, for the most wins 280 from 2298 starters but with a strike rate of 12.18% was the worst of those 20.
Great trainer, yes ,Greatest Ever ?
