What do we make of this today?  The speed was a complete farce.  The runaway winner of the class 1 in the last would have won the ATA by 4 lengths.  What sort of lead up is this to a Perth Cup?  All well and good winning this race for the Pearce team but I think I’ll be putting a line through the first 2 home in the Perth cup when Gay’s runner puts the pressure on at the 600m mark on 1st January.  2

The Cox Stakes on Saturday will be an interesting race from the Perth Cup perspective

It will be if Casino Seventeen wins and beats the three toppies who are rated 11 to 13 points higher than it. It could easily get 12 ratings points for winning and go from 53kgs to 59kgs in the Cup.

My error. The winner of the race will not incur a penalty for the Cup.

My early mail was Numerian had really turned the corner over here after coming over with not great form. Since then CJP wasn't overly glowing after a solo track gallop at Pinj-potentially he might be a bit behknd fitness wise in terms of a hard run Perth Cup.

It could just be the fsct that im on early but I feel like Black Fantasy will be better suited chasing opposed to leading.

In terms of this weekend I thought the Waterhouse horse could just track Marachino (feel like Marachino is far too quick for him over that initial 150m) peel past him top of the straight and not get caught.

Not sure that horse would have won by 4 lengths in that company but appreciate your efforts in putting a line through them and keeping the payout big for the rest of us! :P

I never said it would have won the feature, just stating it ran 4lengths faster time highlighting the farcical pace in said feature.  How can you possibly think that’s an ideal lead up race to a high pressure 2400m handicap?

Haha i just don't think the times are all that relevant in those staying races. They could have walked out the gates for all i care. They all settled like professionals and put in when it counted.

How did the ATA horses fair in the cup?  Granted a couple ran ok without ever threatening but I stand by if you are going to a 2400m grand final you can’t be coming off races that are little more than glorified track work and expect to be rock hard fit enough to win.
