Worst cricket match I've ever attended last night............utter crap !

Re Huss - he would seriously be on the brink on not being picked for the first test.
Will need a big 100 this match or next to save himself I'd think.

Hussey adds another 3 to his 20,000 run career...

Time to drop him and send a message that we don't accept failure, no matter who you are, I have and will always be a big fan of Huss but his international test career should be over, bring in the young blood.

Time to give somebody a chance to ignite their career on the biggest 5 day stage in the business.

I remember not that long ago we were discussing who should replace North if he was to go and i suggested Shaun Marsh. Someone else (Funkster i think) went at great lengths to tell me how Mitch was already better and should be in contention for an Aussie gig, Shaun was too loose outside off stump from memory.

Shaun Marsh makes 137 and 89 for this current match and again i say he is one of the most consistant batsman in Australia in all forms of the game.

Mitch Marsh has a first class average of 19 before this match, has now scored 44 runs in his last 9 first class innings. Not exactly screaming out for National honours would you say?

This coming from someone who keeps defending those duds from wet toast? By your rekoning you should be sacking half of them

Would think North should go before Hussey. North is a 100 or nothing man, where as you atleast you know what you get from Hussey.

Australia's batting is fragile, and if a young batsman is making a case for inclusion (Ferguson) I would think he should get the nod.

Saying all that, North made a ton in his last test, and his bowling may be thought to be handy to supplement Hauritz (who isn't really a spinner).

So what will happen is that the selectors will go unchaged with the batting line up, and Haddin replaces Payne at 7. Which in my opinion is a mistake, but am happy for to happen as I hope England win 5-0.

    And another two since.

Hussey has made 3 (runs, not century's)

You and dungy wouldn't have a brain cell to share.

I defend the young under performing players at West Coast not the older ones.

Mike Hussey is 36 next year hence the reason I am calling for his head on the back of 2 years of poor performances at test level.

Have a look at the pic of SoS in today's West. The pic emphasisies my point about his technical flaws.
Should be a text book off drive with his nose over the ball, but his weight is back, which has resulted in his back leg collapsing and the ball going in the air....
A very good one day player, where technique isn't that important.

I agree Mitch is probably still 12 months away, although could stake a claim as a geniune all-rounder.
Khawaja and Ferguson would be under consideration.

As much as I admire the guy, if Hussey doesn't get runs between now and the first test then his spot is in jeopardy.

Technique is being proven to be over rated, examples such as Sewhag, Hughes and even a guy like Marcus Trescothic. It's about runs not how you do it and Shaun is making them or is 230 for the match not enough for you?

And Mitch Marsh is just over rated plain and simple. Genuine all-rounder? Wouldn't that require wickets first? I keep hearing he bowls 140km/h yet everytime he's on fox he's lucky to be hitting 130, no doubt he'll improve but man he's had it easy to be where he is. A guy like Swart has hab to churn out runs for years to get his opportunity and he's taken it, Mitch needs to go back to grade cricket and earn his spot.

Lack of technique was why Hughes got found out in about 5 mins of international cricket.

You can talk up technique all day if you want and it won't make a lick of difference. Cricket at that level is played between the ears. Talk of techique and breaking it down to what the text book says is for couch legends and newspaper hacks who want to make themselves sound good.

From what I have seen of Shaun Marsh of late at international level it is indicative of someone not watching the ball or playing a lazy shot. They're mental issues that need to be ironed out through a nice chat with a senior player. Unfortunately those guys seem to have their own issues at the moment so probably can't help.

Is that why he only averages 51.25 in Test cricket?

Averages considerably less since teams worked out where to bowl to him.

By the way Sehwag has a very good technique. Balanced, still head, plays straight and hits thru the line of the ball
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,677 posts
Sehwag has a very good technique for a lumberjack. Balanced, head still, swings straight through the line.

He's one of those guys at the top level I'm talking about. It's all upstairs for him. If he is low in confidence or not 100% switched on he won't be able to eek out tough runs. But when he's on he just sees the ball and hits it. Great stuff, but you wouldn't teach a kid to bat like that unless you recognised he had that level of ability. Just because he scores runs doesn't mean he is technically sound.

    Brad Hodge averages 55.88
Don't see him getting a game.
