In my opinion 1600 is not the optimum distance for either. 1400 I'd reckon.

I think Marasco's Craiglee is better than anything El Pres has done. And I rate his seconds in the Autumn as better than the Craiglee win.

    No contest -
Marasco was overated by the W.A media because he wore [yellow black maltese cross ,Northerlys colours] he is a 1200-1400m sprinter 1600m at best .
El Pres would wallop him i cant wait to see that it would be a great race .

Personally I think Marasco would give EP wind burn. How quickly he's been dismissed while EP beats the locals and he's hailed a star.

if they straightened up together i think marasco would brain him. if he had to give el pres 3 or 4 lengths on the corner , different story. still think he'd wear him down though.

Gotta agree with Chris, I certainly remember Marasco's first up win at Belmont where he won effortlessly...

Yes Marasco is probably more suited at about the 1400m had he not gone to Melbourne and had been prepared for the Kingston Town he would probably be favourite imo

And is a star. Can't remember ever seeing a horse win his Maiden and the Railway in the same year.

Maiden or 1st win to Railway in less than 12 months:

Northerly (same year) & Jungle Dawn - in less than 12 months won 2yo maiden @ Bunbury beating Placid Arc & won Railway as 3yo filly. Both ridden by Dasher.

Marasco would brain him anything up to 1600m.

1200m would be the right distance

Would like to see a pace maker used in this hypothetical match race!

    Campo?

Marasco had niggling soreness all prep.

I'd imagine his future preps will be kept to 4 runs at most. A sound Marasco would easily have El Pres covered over 1400 IMHO.

I think both will find their niche as genuine sprinters.

Two true. And they both went east or overseas and brained them. EP is on the road to doing the same thing.

    Campo?

Think a pace maker in this case would be required to set that pace for more than just 600 or 700m TP !!!

you'd go back the stalls and count your cash there with one hand while trying not to warm your beer in the other hand.!

Solidwickedcruel. although he'd probably keep running
  • gold edition!! lol.
over the 1400-1600m would be an ideal pacemaker but any shorter and she'd probably win..??

yeah campo to set the pace for the first 920 meters
  • ChrisChris    5,734 posts
Would need Placid Park to set the pace for the last 400 then!

Concur with you chris and diva..LEVEL weights equals a whipping by perth's still NO 1! IMO of course but few others too i see.EL good but ways to go yet in what has been determined as not an overly strong railway..Marasco would have beaten eastern staters if they fronted and he was well prepared, would EL? not so sure about that ,in fact id say not that likely imo.

marasco imo.... he covered apache cat with ease and a few unlucky 2nds to some good horses including pompei ruler which would thrash el p if over injury, the cox plate winner just had marasco......JUST. and yes, prob. too far for marasco. EL P for 3rd behind PJH and D.Oliver

This is a bit silly, marasco is so far superior to EL, look at the company he has raced in, in WA big races there is only 2 or maybe 3 good horses, over east in the big races the whole field are good, take nothing away from EL he is the better one racing atm but there hasnt been much to really tackle him, mansion, glory, new spice, grasspatch and hartley are good handy horses( wat a perforance from hartley in the railway). Imagine if us owners didnt sell our special 2yr and 3 yr olds to hong kong, imagine the strenght of WA racing
