The Big Breakfast

West Australian Racing
Heard today there may be a new regular segment called "Double Take" ???

apparently Ernie Manning will be looking at horse's racing that have names repeated from good horses of the past

now maybe Im way out here but to me this is of no interest whatsoever and will probably make me turn off when its on

I dont mind the odd bit of history being brought up in general conversion but a regular segment to me would have interest from a very small segment of listeners

I think they need to have Greg Hooper on later in the show - his Racing tips would hold lots more interest than some other segments and not sure how many punters are up at 6am??

Also like to see some racing quiz's or listener callback return - the show had some interestering characters a while back

anyone else have any suggestions?

Comments

  • will be ok for people that remember the older horses, no interest however for listeners who don't, maybe do something like Barry Thomas use to do when he had his show on in the evenings, "where are they now"

is there alot of interest in Hoopers tips?

ernie must be made of pine or jarrah. a more wooden personality i haven't seen. please don't inflict him on us anymore. reading him is excruciating enough.

I would rather listen to a female comedian than listen to the Big Breakfast. And, as they say "what's funnier than a female comedian? Everything".

The next person that wants to bag RR, Shortte or Ernie can fair dinkum create their own media-driven entity and carry on with all they know about the Industry.
Oh, make it entertaining so that no one could possibly pick flaws in it; make it relevant & equally distributable to the all three codes; and ensure that everyone is happy with all segments placed at all timeslots throughout a program.
If you don't like the forum, then don't switch it on.
Constructive criticism is one thing, but to bag & gripe without solutions or possible rectification is unfortunately symptomatic of the industry.

    Pretty simple, actually.

In the next few weeks there will be changes.

Bert Newton is joining the team. I'm not sure what he will be doing but we can talk about the addictions of his wife bashing boy. Turnover may not be generated by this segment.

Banjo Patterson will be recited each day by Gough Whitlam.

The Lords Prayer will start proceedings each day. This will be presented by Terry Willesee as a bit of professionalism is required. Terry told me

Nana Mouskouri will do a segment on Greek cooking. That will be a winner.

I can't wait. It will be diverse but it is what the punters want according to the recent survey conducted on line.

I'm looking forward to the changes.
Firstly, when we have a female jockey chop up a ride, we'll get Bert to get his enforcer son to remind her not to do her make up with 200m to go.
Secondly, we all know that the Lords Prayer starts like this " Good Old Collingwood Forever".
And finally, what hot blooded male doesn't like greek?

Looking forward to Nana. Might have to go dust off my Mum's old records.

Never please everyone and in todays world, it is easy to switch to something else.

The parts I always try to listen too.

Monday wrap and the Wednesday/Friday morning previews.

point taken choc. my gripe is ernie is a waste of time. my solution - get rid of him. That is both a solution and a rectification. in the main i like it and listen, it's just ernie that gives me the sh*ts. nothing personal, dont know the bloke, just my opinion from afar.
  • I've got use to it, Big Fella carrys the show, I do like Shorties interviews with the people from the dogs, he is the expert in that area and they are great interviews

Ernie will be ok, I only know one bloke who knows as much as he does

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Gee you must lead a boring life, get over it,i really quite enjoy listening to some talk to the owner segments.and if you dont switch it on,what are you complaining about?

    Glamour,
Because I don't listen to a radio program, I must lead a boring life. Mmmm, different.
The show needs to change. I speak to many people in the industry, and the local punter, and most of them say that the show isn't the same. It's boring.
I personally don't know David, Richard or Wes, so it's nothing personal. It's just the shows layout bores me to tears.
It very similar to Top Gear. The Australian and the U.K format are the same. One show has millions of followers, the other has 7 people who watch it.
Tim, once again, I don't know the guy, but he was entertaining.
Personally, the show should do a thorough review of the racing around Australia. Most of the punting dollar is on the gallops. A small minority are interested in Mandurah dogs.
There should be interaction with the listener. It would be a great medium to give feedback.
Once again, and I've said this many times, they need to take a few notes from Melbourne sports radio stations.
I do invest a fair bit of time and effort in this industry, so I do have an opinion.

Obviously by time and effort in this industry you mean thoroughbreds.

22% of the punting dollar is invested on greyhound racing yet the dogs are only funded to the tune of 12.5%.

I don`t think the 10 to 15 mins (out of 3 hours) spent on greyhounds is detrimental to the show.

Maybe you should attend the Racing Symposium.

    3 Codes: 1 Industry.

Hmm....must always be the 10-15 mins I switch on...then switch off again because they are talking about the dishlickers

    Hi Fastmoney,
I'm not whinging about 10 to 15 minutes of greyhound racing, it's just I would like to see a bigger and more thorough review of Kilmore, Wyong, Sandown, Geraldton etc races .
Only assumption, but i reckon most of the greyhound betting is people sitting at the pub or Tab, betting on every race that comes on.
If you want to listen to a goor sports radio channel, have a listen to this.

I listen to SEN and sport927 all the time.

I here very little about midweek country meetings on those stations.

My personal view is the show is probably too long and a lot of discussion is duplicated eg. Friday night trots and Saturday races start being discussed from Wednesday.

If anyone tells you your not funny don`t believe them.

There will be a comprehensive review of Narromine and Young trots tomorrow. That should appease John from Applecross.

Larry from White Gum Valley wanted a review of Bathurst greyhounds but I don't think that will be done.

If every race meeting was to be reviewed we would not get on any guests on the show that goes without saying.

I reckon you blokes need to wake up. There is only so much that can be put on air in the space we have we have.

As I've said before it wouldn't matter who was hosting the show the critics would be all over him like a rash.

You blokes are like ravenous hyenas just waiting to pounce behind your hidden veils.

We try to be fair to each code on the show and that means covering each code.

On Tuesday we plan to talk to Danny O'Brien, Sonya Price, Michael Morton, Adam Durrant, Robert Hickmott and Michael Walker from the thoroughbred code.

Kim Prentice and Bryan Cousins along with a Bunbury preview will be the standardbred content.

Peter Hepple, Ben Maclean and Lionel Hodgson will be the greyhound identities.

Now to my way of thinking that is a fair coverage of all codes. We have a responsibility to each code as the station is run by RWWA which oversees the industries as a whole.

I am just about sick to death of the whinging and cheap remarks from the faceless names on this site.

We try to do our best. I wonder how many of you make mistakes in your workplaces, how many of you cannot satisfy your partners, how many of you back losers.

How many of you have the guts to front up on an individual basis and talk to those who do host the show or for that matter contact the show.

I love reading the posts on this site but I do get sick of the negativity.

If you want to have a whinge or a gripe contact the station or talk to Wes Cameron at the races.

Don't worry about it Punk. If you listen to your critics, it won't be too long before you're sitting with them listening to the radio instead of talking on it.

    Hi Suburbanpunk,
So, just to prove that I don't hide behind a veil, Kerrin and Pie Man is me, Kerrin Brown. The reason I have two author names is that I can't access my password for Kerrin. The reason for this is, is that I changed email address, so they PTT can't email me my password. I use Pie Man on my Ipad and Iphone, and Kerrin on my Mac.
As you know, I've asked you personally on who to speak to regarding a idea of mine. I won't add anymore.
I love my wife immensily, but I would rather suck off a truckie, than to listen to her sing. She doesn't take it personally, she just knows that I hate her singing. So, don't take it personally, but the Big breakfast is boring. I tried to like it, but i can't.
About myself, I'm a Safety Officer, so yes, i make many mistakes. If you look at my Ozbet account, I have backed many losers, and yes, Tara sometimes think i'm a dud root, like most nights. But, I won't give up, i'll keep on trying.
Suburbanpunk, I do have the right to whinge about a program that isn't entertaining. If i don't listen to the show, I won't get the tip from Kim Prentice, so I won't go down to my local Tab and have a bet on his horse. Do you see what I'm getting at? Not trying to be smart, but it's good business sense to provide a good product.

Not knowing the ins and outs of producing a radio show, but is there somewhere that advertises at what day and what time approximately a certain guest is on in the morning, I find that valuable as i am unable to listen to the alot of the show in the mornings and generally miss out.

Also I benefit from being able to listen to the interviews at night either via perth racing or racing radio at night after the results service.

A lot of individuals have their own view on what suits them personally.

While some of those may be totally impractical it is still their view.

Not sure about your "sick to death of the whinging and cheap remarks from the faceless names on the site" comment.

If someone makes a suggestion on-line or in person what is the difference if its the same suggestion.

While you may not like some of the comments some of the suggestions may be worth following up.

Unfortunately participant suggestions to RWWA usually fall on deaf ears.

Big chap as I said to you at Bunbury, I WANT that Greek cooking segment, if you don't supply I'll turn your mounting yard volume down again. Whittler.

receives my vote for post of the year so far

PS - I find the trainer/owner/driver/jockey interviews on Racing Radio to be excellent and easily the best part of the show

You need thick skin to survive in the racing industry. Don't stress the smalll things Punk.

After all this is a horse racing forum.

Seems everyone's got their own idea for The Breakfast Show, but my wish list for The Breakfast Show is for everyone to focus soley on horse racing and rugby union.

    I'm being serious :x
