AFL Round 8 - Derby round!
Sport
A couple of big games this round.
WCE and Freo - let the war begin! Should be as even a match as we've had in years by the looks (on current form anyhow).
GEEL and COLL - I dunno, its being billed as a blockbuster, but I just cant help but feel its going to be a fizzer.......bloody collingwood are too good arent they?

West C 2.0 vs Freo 1.80
Who am I having a (charity) bet with again ?
Remember, no team has yet to win a game coming of a bye yet. Even though Collingwood are clearly better than everyone, do you think this pattern may continue. If so $3.05 is lovely
Although, I do agree, Collingwood will probably come out and belt them. -17.5 isnt to bad for the Multi's!
What are people's thoughts on the derby? West Coast played great against essendon, especially in that 1st half. if they play anything like that they will be a good challenge for Freo!
Sydney will smash Port Adelaide >39.5
Bulldogs V Richmond an interesting one... Hard to pick
As much as i hate to say it think the Toast will be the Dorkers
Lecras to kick a bag.
What was with Embley last week - was he playing hurt? Considering his form prior, my goodness he was bad
Surely you're not serious about Lecras, missed a number of weeks and should be getting back to full fitness now with almost two full games into him, looked timid kicking the first week which can be understood.
AAMI Stadium/Football Park holds no fears for GC either, who are improving. I won't be touching that game.
Hayden Ballantyne - hamstring: test
Michael Barlow - leg: 4-6 weeks
Justin Bollenhagen - hamstring: 2-3 weeks
Zac Clarke - groin: test
Peter Faulks - calf: test
Roger Hayden - foot: 6-8 weeks
Joel Houghton - arm: 7 weeks
Anthony Morabito - knee: season
Tendai Mzungu - knee: 2 weeks
Gavin Roberts - quad: 4-6 weeks
Tim Ruffles - knee: 4-5
Alex Silvagni - groin: 2-4 weeks
Nick Suban - leg: 8 weeks
Michael Walters - ankle: 1 week
West Coast may not get a better chance to win one for some time.
Ballas won't play, Fyfe & Bradley will carry injuries, Jack Anthony & Crowley will be underdone with Subi having a bye last week..... :(
Barlow who by the way looked the goods at training yesterday moved well
Suban,Silvagni,Ballas,Walters,Muzungu probably in the best 22 ] Morabito ,
But the old saying dont worry about who is not out there worry about who is out there !!!!
I can see us getting beat in front of goal we will have to kick 15+ to win and with out Ballas down there and Pav in the middle that aint going to happen we will win in the middle i reckon we have a better engine room Sandi,Pav,Mundy,Deboer,Hill and Fyfe but like last week it stands for nothing unless you kick goals and put forward pressure on we failed to both i think the Eags by 20+ points .
Surely a side you had as a flag challenger last week has the depth to cover 5 outs against the reigning wooden spooner, we have 2 of our best 22 out too dont forget. 3 if you count Mackenzie (which I don't).
Who goes to LeCras is the big question. Probably Broughton, but that may curb his opportunities to create. Maybe De Boer?
Jack Anthony will play.
Weagles will most likely put negaters on Mundy and Pav and a defensive forward on Hill. Mundy & Pav will still get a stack of posessions as will Fyfe (if fit). Freo need several of the passengers from last week to lift.
Should be a good game. Effective use of the ball should decide the result.
I've taken Freo by <24.5 in my multi. Couldn't bring myself to take either team <15.5 :P
Ballantyne, Barlow, Hayden, Morabito, Mzungu, Silvani, Suban, Walters and maybe Ruffles in my best 22. Yes Ruffles, the guy who beat West Coast in a Derby and did his 2nd ACL in the process. Has done 3 now I think :(
Yes I think Freo have a lot of depth in its list, which is well and truely being tested atm. Take 8-9 top 22 players from any team and they will struggle. Injuries heavily influence the performance of most teams. That's why i'm quite optimistic about Richmond's chances this week.
If Freo can win half of their next 4 games and not cop many more injuries then they should be positioned ok to build momentum in the 2nd half the season as several players return.
As previously stated, this will be the Weagles best chance to beat Freo in a while and for some time to come. Certainly better now than in Round 18 when Freo's list should be looking much healthier and Kerr is out injured again
Scott to Hill, Adam to Pav, Priddis will prob go head to head with Mundy.
And Dec, what have you got against Emac? He is going to be a very good full back, very similar to Glass. He is good 1 on 1, can take a contested mark and had been very good before his injury.
He has had a few brain fades in previous years but his decision making and skills have improved, he is very important for us.
Glass is now taking the 3rd tall and Brown and Emac are playing the key positions, ala the Fletcher /Scarlett setup. This helps our young blokes to develop and allows Glass to be the third man in at times.
Schofield is horrible against the bigger key forwards and if Mackenize is out for a decent period of time (which I have a feeling he will be) we are in big trouble. Luckily Freo and Bulldogs aren't blessed with quality key forwards.
Glass won't be around much longer so Emac and Brown need to be ready to take over sooner rather than later, no use denying them games.
Some teams will have 3 talls to cover some won't, but I think people make too much of Schofields flexibility, it means nothing if he is hopeless.
We need to draft another key back next year for cover in case we get injuries to Brown or Mackenzie, perhaps even just a mature aged rookie for depth.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Brown leaves next year although in the paper today he says he wants to stay, contract up and I have my doubts.
Still havent seen those 8 or 9 Dockers who are making way for the blokes coming in!
Michael Barlow - leg: 4-6 weeks

The bolded ones are certainly best 22, the rest are fringe players, going forward not sure how many games Hayden will get anymore, need to start to looking to the future.
Yes you have a big injury list, but most of those players are not key personnel.
Hayden is probably best 22, but with him, Grover and Mcpharlin all over 30 in your back half you better start developing some key defenders to take over because I see nothing, Faulks is average and Silvagni is a 3rd tall.
Embley been kicking plenty of goals this year, beware.
