Zeronimo goes around again at Carnarvon after bolting in last start. Good luck boys!

Cup Day at Port Hedland. Shane Harcourt must be a genius to get Junior Soprano to finally win a race. Also has another ex Gangemi horse Pentire Point firing for the Cup.
Dance On Board looks to be on track for a tilt at the Broome Cup again and also contests the Cup.

decent chance it will be scratched

you would think it would be easy to get a jockey for a horse who won its last start by 3 lengths - but appears not

Yep, you get people on here whinging about field sizes...............well there's a last start bolter who can't even get a rider (coz there is none), so obviously will reduce the field size (plus another horse in the field too)

I can think of 60 reasons

At the end of the day you have no chance of getting anything if you leave them home in the yard. Even if the rider is maybe not the flashest.....she's obviously good enough to ride em work.
And she ended up riding a double on the day.

    cheers

But then can't, or won't, run (and win) with a claim next week.
Would rather wait a week and win, than run with too much weight for the sake of running, and get nothing.

But will say..........with him weighing > 600kg, don't think it would have made two bob of difference, so buggered if I know why (not).........

Photo took an eternity, but well done Shane Harcourt on winning the cup with Pentire Point ahead of Angela Smith's Viscount Cameron. Must have been a nose in it.

got a call from somebody asking me to switch on sky2 and watch a race from
port hedland, as he thought what i would see is hilarious.

why is there turf in the straight and into the first turn, while the rest is red dirt??....the dirt looked like it would just about joke the riders to death there was so much of it,.....shouldn't it have been moistened or something?

i note too that risa describes the surface as dirt, but that's not exactly correct is it.

it certainly looked weird anyway, but surely there is a reason why??
  • you obviously didnt see Roebourne last week if you thought that dirt was bad

Port Hedland might be the only racecourse in the world that is dirt with a grass straight

Big Controversy in the Port Hedland Cup today.

The result was given to Pentire Point over Viscount Cameron by a nose. Losing connections requested to see the photo, but theres no mirror and no line. When asked how the photo was lined up, they said we use a ruler.

Now, the sky 2 camera was that far from the line, it was impossible to say either way, so that option is out.

Several trainers and owners (of other horses) who were on the line, claim that Viscount Cameron won without doubt.

Given it was a full TAB meeting, and the cup is worth $40k, surely owners, trainers and punters are entitled to better than a ruler to line up the photo finishes?

if they used finishlynx it will have a line, thats how they get the time for each horse.

I think they may still use the box brownie system in Hedland. Any chance of getting a look at the photo.

I was on course and I thought Pentire Point had won..... although I was about the only one who did think this.
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
Ill try and get the photo and publish....but if theres no line, im not sure what it will tell us?
As Broomecupforever eludes to, trainer is not one for sour grapes, but when she was told by most people on course that she had won it, she went to view the photo and was not convinced with the decision or the methodology in coming to the decision.
  • Wes Cameron said on radio this morning the photo showed a clear margin
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
Cant have been that clear as it took them a good 5 minutes to deliberate?

Hopefully Dave from BHM Photography will have a pic taken on the line of the cup.

In any case, if your horse did win at Port Hedland,

www.bhmphotography.com.au is the place to go to get your pic!

Lots of good people shots from all the Nor West racing too.

Great day out, even tho didnt pick a winner  certainly find doing the form has nothing to do with picking a winner. Classic quote from one of the girls "my friend is named jen, and she likes marshmallows....." And promptly backed marshall jensen....gets the cash at 25-1
