AFL Round 22

Fremantle will welcome back clearance specialist David Mundy against the Roos, with coach Mark Harvey declaring last year?s club champion would return from a serious ankle injury for his first match in more than two months.
Mundy?s addition along with Adam McPhee?s return from suspension will give Fremantle virtually their strongest line-up for the year.
Mundy will strengthen them around the stoppages, an area where they were belted 43-25 in the clearance count by the Blues.
?I genuinely thought he was a chance for today but they held him back for various reasons,? Pavlich said of Mundy.
?I saw him train throughout the week, running really strongly, doing some change of direction stuff and all the things you would assume would lead into playing.?
Mundy?s inclusion along with the encouraging return of Michael Barlow from a broken leg will lighten the load on Pavlich, who has played through the midfield for much of this season as Fremantle?s injuries mounted.
The 29-year-old had both ankles heavily iced in the change rooms after Saturday?s loss and received treatment on his left calf during the first half.
He admitted the on-ball role had taken a physical toll on him, but reiterated he would continue shouldering that burden.
?Whatever the coaches ask me to do and wherever that role is in the team, I?m certainly happy to play that,? Pavlich said. ?It is a tough gig and it does take its toll, but that?s how it is, so I?ll keep trucking on.?
Pavlich said Fremantle had been ?smashed? in contested ball against Carlton. He acknowledged the stoppages were an ongoing issue and an area where they must lift to make the finals.
?It?s something that we?re constantly reviewing and analysing,? Pavlich said. ?It?s not one particular element.
?I think a lot of our players who have gone through there are still finding their way in the game and we are having to fill gaps a little bit by virtue of who?s out there... it is a shame that particularly today and in recent weeks it?s been poor.?

A Friday night blockbuster, followed by a Super Saturday - for anyone who supports both WA teams and the Saints v Swans arm-wrestle at lunchtime Sunday, which will affect the finals aspirations of a few teams

That club is going nowhere...
but it is an indication of the win at all costs mentality at WCE
Golden rule, you never bring someone's family into it. The penalty should be a free (from panalty) king hit.
Just like Headland's retaliation when Selwood said he had sex with his daughter.
The best sledges are the phsycological or humorous ones, but I guess intelligence isn't a pre-requisite to being an afl footballer, or rugby league player....
Makes me remember a story about the aboriginal umpire (i think it was in the 80's). Gave a decision against a player and the player was so angry he said "I'll burn your pharkn house down". The umpire said to him "good luck mate, its made of corrugated iron".
Thats how you handle a sledge!
*crickets*
But why not close the roof for every game, no ifs no buts? Surely it is best for the spectacle and the fans at the game? Surely they don't leave it open to let the grass grow during that 3 hours? Just doesn't make sense. I would like them to come out and tell us the reasons for not closing it.
are u sure your not a closest eagle!? sure starting to make some sense of late  8)

Was obviously told by suns he was no longer going to get a game at the expense of the kids. Was a good DT downgrade target early in the year though...
P.S Did you enjoy that 1 point loss on the weekend? I made sure it was a cliff hanger for the fans...it's all about the fans.
:D
Now in the Headland case, I agree 100% as the original sledge was way over the mark.....
But in this case, if Petterd threatened to Kil McGinnity as in some reports, then he certainly should be prepared for ANY type of verbal retaliation...
Would be bad enough threatening to kill his family, but raping his mum....what an absolute whack job! Who would even think of it - as a sledge.
Should have banned him for rest of season. A far worse comment than racial abuse - i.e. what Sherman said.
threatening to kill someone is not worse than calling him a name based on his race? What a society we live in.....
Agree, McGinnerty is a low piece of work to come up with a sledge like that. But lets remember, they are only words. Rettard started it with a threat, McGinnerty finished it with some horrible words. They both acted like children and the incident should be treated like the school yard tripe that it is.
Lets move on.
Players are well educated on what areas are unacceptable.
Why is one threat ok in your eyes and another not...
I would think Murder is an area that is unacceptable both in the AFL and society...
Lets not forget that Jake King was being looked at by the POLICE for threatening someones life was he not!!!
I think the sledge is low, don't get me wrong, but Petterd started the incident, then ran crying to the umpire when he didn't like it!
I don't know anybody that would take either threat seriously on a footy field. I wouldn't be happy about such a comment and let the person know, as Petterd and his team mates did in this incident, but it is what it is, trash talk on a sports field.
McGinnity's jibe was in poor taste no doubt. He has been humiliated in the public eye and suspended for a week. I think that is more than enough of what was a heat of the moment stupid comment.
If Petterd says to him "I'm gonna come over to Perth and kill you" and Mcginnity retaliates with " I'm gonna rape yo momma" then as far as I'm concerned fair bump play on. He was dobbed on and his comments were outside the conduct laws and therefore he has to pay the penalty.
But to put it in context he retaliated and didn't just go up to him and say "I'm going to rape your mum".
Next time they meet I hope somebody runs through Petterd and he doesn't get up in hurry.
The other is a threat against the well-being of a family member.
I can't believe anyone (with any morals) can't see the difference and realises only one of these is an inappropriate comment - on a sporting field.
I guess the good thing is that he will be attending counselling.
Would be some irony if he got arrested on their end of season trip on suspicion of drug posession and had to endure a full-cavity search :P
Some cracking games this weekend!
A fair few possible upsets too. Good luck finding 8 winners
