Black Caviar is having a vacant barrier next to her incase Here De Angels plays up this Sat , this is contrived racing and sets a bad precedence .

Not really mate, think they are just protecting their investment.

Does set a precedent though i agree there, but i think at the end of the day it's the right thing to do.
  • Bad precendence? I disagree

MY OPINION, ALL I KNOW IS HORSES SOULD FACE OFF WITH A FAIR HANDICAP/ RATING AND THE BARRIERS ARE JUST A PART OFF RACING YOU GET YOUR GOOD TIMES AND YOUR BAD TIMES. :o :o

GETTING BACK TO THE TOPICK SHE SOULDNT GET THE PRIVLEDGE OF NOT HAVING A HORSE NEXT TO HER AS THE REST IS TRYING TO WIN TO. SHE IS A GREAT HORSE AND I WISH ALL THE BEST TO ALL CONECTIONS BUT SHE SOULDNT GET FAVERATISM.

I think it is a very bad decision. Pathetic in fact.

LATE NEWS -- Nash Rawiller has been withdrawn from his ride in the race. He has had too many suspensions and stewards are worried that a horse he is riding may cause interference to the champion.
  • All I can say is welldone to stewards and connections of HDE on this decision - shows there is still room for commonsense in racing

Very surprised how some people have reacted to this - over reacted I should say

What a bluddy joke. Well fair is fair enough. From now on EVERY horse that has a barrier rogue nomimated to a barrier ,beside it should be able to ask for a vacant barrier.

    I'm just surprised that they didn't move her from 4 - 6 and HDA from 5 - 4.
Surely no one would have an issue with someone saying "just give us the outside gate"
  • darkshinesdarkshines    2,837 posts
You can't be serious. This isn't a farking role play with actors doing their bit, its a bloody horse race. It drew next to HDA, bad luck for her. Good luck for other runners. This game is built on luck. Why should one horse alone have her bad luck intervened.

Connections of all other runners should be screaming blue murder. Haven't read any papers today but I'd be very dissapointed if I don't read a backlash.

Biggest disgrace I've seen in the game.

hi guys though i disagree with the ruling there is precedence in pacing they are known to move bad starters to outside gate but this is first time in the gallops i can recall but does open the gate for possable backlash cheers

Odds on, very small field, controversy prior to the field being loaded, sounds like a reason not to bet odds on and just look on.

I feel an upset in the making.
  • coastalchillcoastalchill    126 posts
I think there is that possibility Damien...but on the other issue,I totally agree about the barrier shift.HDE is a known barrier rogue and if the horse wasn't so talented they would of banned him.Why on earth would you risk it.That one shift on horses and jockeys at that level shouldn't make a difference.Would people complain if she was Phar Lap?

    NOT FAIR !

Are you people serious?? HDA shouldn't have been allowed to accept in the first place the horse is a grub and should be banned from racing full stop!! Moving it out one barrier is no where near enough it should start from 18!
  • Brunswick_cowBrunswick_cow    341 posts
well just in case there is any trouble in the first 400 better if we let it start from 800m mark.......one rule for BC and one for the rest, just don't sound right to me!
  • helmethelmet    50 posts
So it's Black Caviar's fault HDA is a low animal that for a start isn't even good enough to run in the race and shouldn't even be racing at all. If I was Moody and the stewards hadn't of taken action I would have pulled her out. let the crowd go see dirty old dog Here De Angels disgrace himself once again... and then ask them if the stewards should of acted to give them another chance of witnessing a freak that could end up the greatest racehorse of all time!

sounds like you've got a set against HDA, but thats not the point.
the point is, where do we draw the line for special requests.

I find it a reasonable request, but my class one at albany last year was scratched at the barrier when two horses went off either side. He has was injured quite badly and has never been the same horse since. would it be reasonable for us to ask for barrier rogues to be moved a barrier away? or would it just count in big races? or would it just be black type races?

I guess the point is, if they consider it for Black Caviar, who else will they consider it for?

In all fairness, a gap in barriers won't change the result of the race - look at Greyhound racing for example, scratchings are not moved in, the box is left empty - never heard a greyhound trainer peeved his dog didn't have company in the next box (generally is an advantage)

I can see both sides to this, but it is a decision which could come to bite them on the arse (as to when and how requests of this nature are dealt in the future) and to what degree will she receive special treatment next start?

Will this become the new "if he/she gets too much weight, we won't run him/her in xxx big race" that big trainers have been using for years to try and get 'special treatment' by the handicapper?

  • The horse (HDA) has passed it's barrier test and should be treated the same as all other runners, very poor decision, it only missed the start last run, didnt play up in the barriers

Can't believe the nonsense you blokes let rip with some time.

What's the big deal? She is the champ, the so called saviour of racing and of course she gets treated differently. Just like if she comes over here Perth Racing will bend over backwards to do whatever connections want. It will make not one scrap of difference to the result.

I find it refreshing that a high ranking racing official in this country (Terry Bailly) has the balls and good sense to act knowing full well that idiots the country over will scorn the action.

And as for setting a precedence, that's laughable. If someone is stupid enough to ask "why can't you do that for my horse", the simple answer is "your horse isn't BC, now go away".

I just hope they get her a passport soon. This bulldust about the worlds best sprint without setting foot on a plane is ridiculous.

    Go Rocket Man

It's interesting to read what the new part owner and trainer of HDA in Wendy Roche has to say about it all. "We've done a lot of work on him and he's not dangerous as long as you've got someone on his head and holding his ear and pushing him in he'll go in and just stand there". "But at the end of the day who knows what he's going to do".

Personally I find it hard not to be a fence sitter on this one. We all know that horses like black caviar certainly don't come along every day of the week (or grow on trees as I like to say  ) but having said that every horse in the race has just as much right to be there as she does so why should she be treated any different to them?

At the end of the day though A decision has been made and everyone involved in both horses seems :) enough with it which is certainly a good thing. But this could seriously be opening up a can of worms. It'll be interesting to see if other trainers get the same kind of outcome as black caviar if indeed they ever ask for it.

Besides Hay List and she did not want to meet him at 1400m she has run against 2nd raters and now we want to make sure of her 15th win , with a vacant barrier .
Why don't they let her trial on her own and count it as a win .
Or make it a standing start and put Here De Angels off 50 m so there are no issues , what a farce .

Crystal Lily - Grp 1 Golden Slipper winner
    Beaded - Grp 1 winner
Star Witness - Dual Grp 1 winner
Hot Danish - Dual Grp 1 winner and 5x Grp 2 winner
Wanted - Grp 1 winner, multiple 2nd at Grp 1 - and went within 0.8L of BC.

2nd raters? Are you serious DTB?
