unfortunately when u cant make the weight on one with 56kgs for chris waller at a city meeting and it wins opportunities do dry up..hopefully back home he can keep the weight down for a bit longer coz like his old man he can ride extremely well.never afraid to back him.

He actually could make the 56, it was 54 he couldn't make, he informed the stewards he couldn't make the 54 not knowing he could have rode it at 56, they took him off the horse then informed him on the friday he had been taken off his sat rides because he was needed at an inquiry (which he was not told about), got fined 200. Think some of the blame should be aimed at whoever at the Turf Club insisted he be at the WA apprentice awards, when that person was told it might be a bit hard for him as he would have to fly back and waste for Wed it did not matter "he had to be at the awards". Naturally anyone would have thought he would get an award, how the hell he didn't is amazing, so they made him come back and for what reason if he was not getting an award?

If he had been aloud to stay in NSW he would have been sweet

thanks razor, what a debacle for the poor kid and a disgrace that stewards in sydney allowed a senior jockey to replace him. as usual the papers here in sydney only told half the story.cheers

How the hell did he not win Most Promising Junior Rider?? I know it's tough when your not getting rides but i would have liked to have seen him give it a bit longer in Sydney. I think he has the ability to be successful over there.

I agree that Michael is a very good rider NOW. I don't think he has any promise or potential though.
He is riding at 55kg today and he is 16yo! I read an article dated 12 months ago to the day that said he was 175cm! 15yo and 175cm!!! That's taller than I am today (170cm). I was 47kg when I was 16, I was 62kg when I was 25 (now 72kg). I knew a top line jockey in Sydney who told me I was too big (I wanted to be a jockey) and he was right.
Poor Michael has all the ability but he doesn't have the genes to be a jockey. Unfortunately for him, I don't think he'll be riding in races in 2012.
