  • gee MIATA gave them a lesson - $1.35 was a good price for those who can afford to load up on the canine ATM

Yeah, tonight was the night to back her - she'll be back to $1.10 next start.

Shimaguni faded at the end - just not up to Miata (not sure any other dog is)

Do winners get swabbed at the greyhounds?

Just asking. Not all Harness winners get swabbed.

Pretty sure they do - even if not - any feature winners would most certainly be swabbed.

Think you'll find she is just naturally superior to anything she is up against!

For some reason I cannot copy the link.

Go to http://www.themeadows.org.au/ and on the RHS of the page is an article about the race which has a link to the replay in it.

Story about why Miata was scratched this weekend.

WA Champ Miata out of Group 1 Superstayers Series

Connections and greyhound fans across the country have been dealt a huge blow with the scratching of Miata from the second heat of this Saturday?s Group 1 Macro Meats Superstayers series.

The daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Winsome Bluebird has captured the imagination of greyhound followers across Australia with an amazing career to date, including nine track or sectional records and two Group-winning performances.

Trainer Paul Stuart said that his star chaser had not pulled up as well as he would have liked after her outstanding all-the-way victory in last week?s Group 2 Macro Meats Zoom Top at The Meadows.

?She?s a little bit jaded after her win in the Zoom Top last week. I flew her back to Perth after that race and we were due to arrive back in Melbourne this morning, but I just feel that another flight would knock her around too much.? ?It?s really disappointing because there has been a lot of hype about her racing this week, but I have to put her welfare first.?

Miata has won 20 of her 23 starts and still holds three track records at her home track at Cannington (530, 642 and 715 metres)

MIATA trialled during the week at Mandurah over the 405 metres clocking 22.37. Trainer Paul Stuart will trial Miata another couple of times before he heads across to Sydney for the Association Stakes during the rich Golden Easter Egg series.

I get a crazy feeling that even though Miata is a stayer now - she'd crush any dog over any distance (if she doesn't miss the start)

She was going to race tonight, but not enough nominations in the race to take her on, so she had a solo trial - breaking her 642m track record by .01sec

MIATA (Bombastic Shiraz- Winsome Bluebird) lowered her own track record as she trialed after race1 at Cannington tonight. With her local rivals scared off from racing against her in race conditions, trainer Paul Stuart was forced to trial his champion bitch over the 642 metres between races. Miata jumped well and was .10 outside the first sectional split clocking 11.51 before going into the back in 19.49. Miata holds the third sectional record of 24.92 and tonight she stopped the clock at 25.05 before she rattled home in 11.49 stopping the clock at 36.54 which is .01 under her own track record time. Miata will now head to Melbourne on Monday and trial next Saturday night at the track over the 595 metres before she tackles the 715metres Lizrene on Thursday May 3. Her main aim is the Group 1 Sandown Cup on May 17 and 24 with the feature being Australia's richest staying race. Last week Miata was compared in NGF with the mighty Zoom Top who was known as the Fawn Flash, with Miata also a fawn greyhound.

Miata and black caviar are doing a photo shoot tomorrow - cant wait to see the pictures when they come out

WA's champion chaser Miata was flown to South Australia today to have her photo taken with the unbeaten racehorse Black Caviar. The photo will accompany a story on Miata who will jump from box 1 in the Macro Meats Lizrene at Sandown on Thursday night in Melbourne.

The Sandown Greyhound RC have also put on a promotion for those who go to the final of the Sandown Cup on Thursday May 24th to watch Miata and Australia's richest staying race.

Racing fans will have an extra incentive to be trackside to cheer on super stayer Miata on RSN Sandown Cup night ? if she wins someone will be driving home a brand new Mazda MX 5 courtesy of Berwick Mazda and the Victorian government?s Raceday Attraction Program.

Already a winner of three Group races, Miata has captured the imagination of the greyhound racing public, winning 22 of her 25 career starts, setting track records over all distances, and earning almost $300,000 in prize money.

As a special promotion, if Miata wins the RSN Sandown Cup, one lucky spectator is guaranteed to win a Mazda MX-5 valued at $52,000. But even if Miata is unsuccessful, someone on-course will still win a Mazda 2 valued at $17,000.

As well as that there will be also be entertainment for all ages, ticket giveaways and further prizes worth up to $2,500, including travel vouchers.

Berwick Mazda Dealer Principal Grant Handley was equally excited to be part of such an exciting program.

?Miata is one of the most exciting and popular greyhounds we?ve ever seen in Australia,? said Mr Handley.

?And the MX 5 is one of the world?s favourite sports cars. It?s a fantastic fit ? experience the thrill of one of greyhound racing?s iconic races and you could win a one of the world?s iconic sports cars.?

To be in the running, patrons must be trackside on Thursday 24 May. Patrons who attend the meeting on Thursday 17 May, featuring the final of the Berwick Mazda Harrison-Dawson, will have an additional chance to enter.

Miata, the fastest female on four legs, meets Black Caviar
    image

PICTURED is the world's fastest galloper, a female smasher of track records with a picket fence of wins whose breathtaking era has reinvigorated her sport.

    Beside her is Black Caviar.

Miata, the 28.4kg rocket, is the Black Caviar of greyhound racing, packing racetracks from Cannington in Perth to Sydney's Wentworth Park.

Greyhound racing hasn't experienced anything quite like this Miata-led recovery since the halcyon days of the 1980s.

And the world's fastest greyhound, winner of her past 13 races, has an edge on Black Caviar - she's faster.

Miata's fastest top speed is estimated at 75km/h in a straight line, compared with Black Caviar's 70.092km/h, registered in her 10.25sec split between the 600m and 400m in last year's Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.

Miata has been clocked at 68km/h, but that would rise to 75km/h if clocked without corners, leading greyhound breeder Paul Wheeler says.

"Two out, there wouldn't be much between them, but Miata would run as fast, if not slightly faster than Black Caviar," Wheeler said.

Miata was the runt and only fawn dog in a litter home-bred by Perth trainer Paul Stuart.

"They were all up for sale, she was the only one no one chose," he said.

Stuart said he was stunned by the impact of Miata, a crowd puller whose 22 wins from 25 starts have her regarded as the greatest modern stayer.

"There is so much anticipation, cameras everywhere. It's just a relief when she wins," he said.

Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody, who still races greyhounds with mates, said he was in awe of Miata.

"They are incredible athletes," he said.

Miata runs in the Lizrena Classic at Sandown tonight before tackling the heats of the RSN Sandown Cup. The cup final is on May 24.
