I was told at trials that she has a cracked vertabrae and some bruising to her liver. She will be 6 months or thereabouts away from Racing.

Ease up Falcon. She is injured. I don't think she deserves another kick.

Just wondering if these Jockeys learn how to ride a horse before starting track riding or before deciding to become a jockey? Jockeys that have ridden and grown up with horses since they were kids I reckon have far better balance and feel for the horse which would ultimately come in handy when you are race riding!

Please  Kat didnt just wake up one day and decide to jump on and ride work, she had plenty of hacking and riding experience, rode in Picnics, built up further competencies in track work with Gary Burger and Gary Nicol and continues to develop.
Has had two unfortunate falls close together and people want to bag the crap out of her.

I have no intention of doing that what so ever Choc. I just Hope Kat has the speediest of speedy recoveries and is back in the saddle again soon.

so do i..i meant no malice with my comment.
its just that when you have 2 bad experiences close together, it must do something to confidence, especially to a young rider.

Agree, no intention of underestimating the skill and commitment of jockeys, and by no means was I bagging anyone, I was just wondering if there was a process by which track riders/jockeys learn the skills of riding outside of race riding. A friend raised this question to me the other day and I had no idea if there were training clinics available for potential jockeys especially if they didn't have a background in horse riding. Without jockeys our horses wouldn't be racing so I am extremely grateful for their courage and commitment.
