R1. Pr Afl Grand Final Day Packages 29/9 Handicap - Dane Hollingworth

A field of nine faces the starter in the first event of the day and I am happy to narrow the race down to only a few winning chances. I?m tipping (4) Operia Seria on an each way basis here who I think might turn the tables on Rose Of Choice who was able to beat her home at their previous encounter. She looks ready to win after her last start effort and with not a lot of exposed speed in the race she can settle in the first few and look the winner somewhere down the straight. Pike jumps on and she has drawn perfectly for this assignment. (2) Rose Of Choice broke through for a deserved win last start after a string of placing?s. She meets a similar field here and provided she gets some luck from back in the field then she can continue on her winning way. (8) Sharp turn has been a costly conveyance to punters this time in after showing good potential in its debut campaign. Like her name suggests she does posses a very sharp turn of foot and is a horse that likes to be saved up for one last crack at them. Provided she gets some cover from a tricky gate then she could be the one finishing over them late. (3) Durrahmoore has not found her best form this preparation and looks to be quite dower this time in. If Staeck is positive from a good barrier draw then she might be able to plug into the first four.

4. OPERA SERIA - 2. ROSE OF CHOICE - 8. SHARP TURN

SUGGESTED BET - 4. OPERA SERIA $25 x $25

R2. Westspeed Handicap - Dane Hollingworth

A promising bunch of three year olds face the starter in the second race of the day and the market might be your best guide to a number of their chances. Im sticking with the race experience here and tipping (8) Orable who comes of the back off a dominant victory in maiden grade. Her good turn of foot was on display in a barrier trial prior to her first race start so it was no surprise to see her pick them up so quickly on debut at Pinjarra. Whiting should have her in a midfield position from a middle gate and if close enough on straightening then she might just be too hard to hold out. I was taken by the recent trial of the Parnham trained filly (10) Durasun who picked up her rivals very quickly down the straight under seemingly little pressure. She has been seen at the races only once where she finished a disappointing 8th in a Bunbury Maiden, however going of her recent trial I think she is better than that. (2) Bangkok express debuts for the strong Simon Miller camp and his recent trial effort was full of merit. He should settle in the first couple in running and give them all something to catch. (7) Isola Blue has the form on the board to be competitive in a race like this, my only concern was her recent barrier trial where she appeared scratchy. I did like the trials of (3) Grey Enigma and (5) Usual Suspect who are both on debut, I cant tip them all though!

    8. ORABLE - 10. DURASUN - 2. BANGKOK EXPRESS

R3. Pr Birthday Packages Now Selling Handicap - Dane Hollingworth

It was hard to miss the last start effort of (8) Fair Haze who powered home from the tail of the field to only go down a length behind Singing Skies in maiden grade, he appeared somewhat inconvenienced at the top of the straight, which makes his effort even bigger. He looks to have a lot of upside this son of Trade Fair and provided he can reproduce his last start effort then he should be going very close. (9) Preliminare is on debut for Justin Warwick and he gains the services of William Pike. He was asked for very little in a barrier trial but still found the line nicely, watch the market. (5) Monteverdi has been knocking on the door this campaign and again he gets his chance to notch up his second race victory. His last two efforts have been solid and he will enjoy a very comfortable run from gate three, he just lacks that killer blow late in races. (2) Rakuroo and (7) Comanche Red put in similar runs at their previous efforts when getting back and flooding home late, they are both knockout hopes.

    8. FAIR HAZE - 9. PRELIMINARE - 5. MONTEVERDI

    SUGGESTED BET - 8. FAIR HAZE $25 x $25

R4. Crown Perth Handicap - Dane Hollingworth

    (8) Soaring Lad is on the quick back up here after scoring a solid victory in similar grade last Wednesday, he was having his first start for the Warwick camp and the late money in betting suggested he was raring to go. With little exposed speed in the race and the engagement of Harvey you would expect him to skip straight to the front and be very hard to get over. Whether (6) Executive Action didn?t handle the degrading track or the quick back up last time out I am willing to forgive him for a somewhat disappointing effort. His run prior to that was very good where he was able to settle in a prominent position in running and pull away to score comfortably late. Parnham should have him tucked in just behind or outside the speed here and if he bounces back to his best form then he can win this. (5) Days Like These put in a good effort last time out when settling close to last and flooding down the outside late to run 6th. If Noske can fire him out of the gates and settle him closer to the speed then he has solid each way claims. (3) November Red has lacked that killer blow this preparation, he should be handy to the speed and look the winner somewhere in the straight.

    8. SOARING LAD - 6. EXECUTIVE ACTION - 5. DAYS LIKE THESE

    SUGGESTED BET - 8. SOARING LAD $50

    R5. Perthracing.com.au Handicap - Dane Hollingworth

    (9) Money Wise has been knocking on the door this preparation with a number of solid performances in better grade than this. She has been getting back a long way in slowly run races but has still been able to savage the line late, her form behind the exciting Mr Utopia holds her in good sted for a race like this and provided she is raring to go after a short let up then she should be very hard to hold out. (7) Chocolate Moon has put in two good performances in maiden grade and I think the step up in distance will suit this horse. Her last start effort was full of merit when she was parked deep for most of the journey but wis still able to find the line, if Pike is positive out of the gates with her then she will probably be the one they all have to run down. (4) Magna Cat appeared unlucky first up at Pinjarra when he was chopped out for a run at the top of the straight. He looks to have improved since joining the Justin Warwick camp and it would be no surprise to see him give this a shake, the engagement of the pontiff is also a plus. (1) Mystic Dust is more a friend of the bookmaker rather then the punters however when on song she can display a good finishing burst, she looks the knockout hope.

    9. MONEY WISE - 7. CHOCOLATE MOON - 4. MAGNA CAT(NZ)

    SUGGESTED BET - 9. MONEY WISE $25 x $25

    R6. Tabtouch.mobi Handicap - Dane Hollingworth

A very tricky little race here and I would expect it would be each way odds the field. I have a bit of time for (6) Antelpen who has shown a good deal of ability in his short career to date. All his efforts this campaign have been full of merit, including his latest effort where he charged home late to grab third behind the exciting prospect The Expert. He will be forced to go back again here from a wide gate but with the step up in distance and his natural ability he should have most of these covered. (3) Toned is a nightmare for his followers, however some of his efforts this campaign have been massive. His last start effort at Pinjarra was full of merit where he settled last in the run but stormed home late to grab third behind Cortona, Pike jumps back on and he has good each way claims. (4) Foxing returned to the track in a blaze of glory when scoring a dominant victory in maiden grade, a repeat of that effort sees him going very close to making it back to back wins. (2) Just Hoping was disappointing last time out, if he can bounce back to his good form then he can win a race like this.

    6. ANTELPEN - 3. TONED - 4. FOXING

Belmont R7. Westspeed Stayers\' Bonus Handicap - Dane Hollingworth

I could easily tip 10 horses in this event and still miss the winner. I liked the last start effort of (12) Golden Palms who really hit the line nicely at the end of a Saturday class 2000m event. Prior to that she was able to get the money at Pinjarra when enjoying a nice trip throughout and just pipping Rive Guache late, from barrier three she enjoys a lovely trip and I think the small step up in distance looks right up her alley. (4) Gold Flight just looks an out and out stayer and both his efforts this campaign have been full of merit, on both occasions he has been under pressure a long way out but has kept finding late to finish in the money. I think Pikes riding style will suit this horse and I don?t see the step up in distance being a concern either. (2) Canyousee Me Smile can improve here after enjoying a torrid run three deep in Saturday grade. I liked the way he stuck around at the end of that race and provided Harvey can weave some magic from a wide alley then he can win. (1) Confianza is a tough stayer who has been in ver consistent from this preparation, he was ridden confidently by Staeck last starte when settling last and running on well to finish fourth. He seems to like chasing horses rather then having them behind him so if he can find a position one of the fence then he should be strong late. Numbers (3), (5), (6), (7), (8), all have winning claims as well, it is just one of those races.

    12. Golden Palms 4. Gold Flight 2. Canyousee me smile

    SUGGESTED BET - No bet

R8. Meeting. Lunch. Racing. Pr Functions Handicap - Dane Hollingworth

    (3) Illusion Of Light is a handy sprinter who has built up a nice record over her short career; her ability to settle handy to the speed and finish her races of strongly has been the key to her success. Both her runs this time in have been full of merit, especially her last start effort where she gave a lot of smart sprinters like Maganfisio and Grey Chavel a big head start at the top of the straight but was still able to take good ground of them late. From a nice gate she can settle just in behind some exposed speed and be hard to hold out. (10) Gottabeyou was very good first up for the Williams stable, she did it at both ends on that occasion when settling outside a hot tempo and still giving a good kick late in the race. The step up in distance looks ideal and from a nice gate she will get all the favors in running. The blinkers go on (7) Business Secret off the back of a somewhat disappointing last start effort, she did however over race in that event and she may have found the 1700m a touch long. She drops back in distance here and from a nice barrier draw the pontiff should have her in a handy position. (5) Carryon regardless is the interesting runner; she was found to be lame after her last start effort where she was sent out a warm favorite. Provided she is sound and can get some luck from a tricky gate then she can play a big part.

    3. ILLUSION OF LIGHT - 10. GOTTABEYOU - 7. BUSINESS SECRET

    SUGGESTED BET - 3. ILLUSION OF LIGHT $25 x $25

Did Harvey shift out there in the straight on Magna Cat?

Not to my eye, Dan Staeck just got held up at a vital stage and Magna Cat appeared to kick strongly.
Money Wise was a moral beaten :((

I thought money wise had his chance. Looked like he would go straight past, but peaked.
did get held up however, no doubt.

That's Staeck though always sweating on miracle runs. Surely you just push the horse on the outside out of the way? Money Wise wasn't getting any closer on the line though-looked like it would win for sure 100m out even with the interference.
