     The east coast is having a good laugh at the min jobs for the boys in my view if u are serious about reform someone has to go after today if u are serious.

    My mail was the track was in trouble as early as Tuesday. For this meeting not to be called until after start time is worthy of investigation. People leaving the track were blaming RWWA but this is a private club, RWWA must be reeling with this level of 'management'.

    Same issue with shifting ground. Problem has been addressed in a cost cutting exercise and these meetings lost are the result. Staff are filthy.

    is there someplace were RWWA does a press release, statement or something related to what actually happened  to cause the cancellation - i can't find anything on the RWWA website.

    ..but surely either the Club or the RWWA people have to let the public - us ! know what happened and the process - but I can't find anything. I understand the track is PR but the people who made the decision must have been RWWA officials ?

    MEDIA RELEASE
    Following 15ml of overnight rain the track was rated a Dead (5) at 7:30am. Upon arrival on course at 10am and following further showers the Stewards conducted a track inspection and identified inconsistent sections in the track surface that were considerably softer than the Dead (5) rating.
    Stewards arranged a delegation of senior riders to inspect these sections and they expressed concern that whilst the overall track was accurately rated as a Dead (5) these various areas identified posed a potential safety issue with horses at full gallop.
    A number of options were discussed with the riding group and Perth Racing Officials to circumvent racing through these sections which included running rail movements and the variation of race distances, however none of these options were suitable in overcoming the concerns of the riding group.
    The riding group that had inspected the track met with all the riders engaged today and were unanimous in their decision to not continue with today’s meeting in the interest of safety to both horse and rider and consequently Stewards acting under ARR.8(q)(i) postponed the race meeting.
    Subject to Sky Channel confirmation, Perth Racing in conjunction with the Northam Turf Club have proposed to transfer today’s race meeting to be run at Belmont (9 races) on Wednesday, 25 September and Wednesday’s scheduled Belmont race meeting to be run at Northam Racecourse (8 races) on Thursday, 26 September 2013.

    Members are advised that the WA Jockeys Association AGM scheduled for this coming Thursday the 26th of September, has been postponed due to the rescheduling of Wednesdays Belmont meeting to Northam on that same day. 

    When a time and date can be confirmed, all members will be contacted and updates will be on this page as well.

    ...at least this thread has allowed me to work out The site Moderator's sympathies and allegiances  - if it had contained any criticism of an investigator or a steward it would have been CLOSED - but vitriolic comment related to board, committee or trackstaff  is OK...

    I understand the logistics of changing the location, but in theory if Belmont is not holding up could we just go to Ascot?

    my understanding is yes..Both tracks are run and managed by Perth Racing and they use them as they see best..They have full access to both tracks 12 months of the year and i know of no reason that they aren't allowed to shift races to Ascot..

    The lack of equipment to run both tracks is the major impediment that i am aware of.

    Did anyone notice how long the grass was at the track today? I have no knowledge of preparing tracks but if the grass was cut shorter would it then enable the track to drain better?

    So surely if anyone had half a brain if there was say 70% doubt that the raves could be run at Belmont at 8am they would hustle to notify trainers staff etc. get the barriers and all the equipment to Ascot by the start time of the first race possibly delay if need be but do everything in there power to run the race?

    its not only the race equipment, but the tote machines, bars, fridges, tables, chairs, etc, etc...Grog, cutlery, cooking equipment, etc, etc, etc..the list is massive and one club running to tracks has not allow any flexibility.

    Surely just get the bare min to run the races for the punting masses (Watching on sky 1) from Belmont to Ascot I know it is bad for the public wanting to go for a day at the races but better then no races at all????

    Perth Racing and RWWA need to start looking at other options to abandoning meetings entirely and postponing. They need to think outside the square.

    One alternative I would suggest is to at least look at a "phantom meeting" where they can shift the races to Ascot and have the facilities and bookies etc all open to the public at Belmont. If they cannot setup both tracks at the same time surely this would be better than losing meetings?
    Free entry, big screen footage of the horses parading etc, bars and restaurants open.

    Another option is to make the call earlier or the day before and race at Northam.
    It is not good enough for the current situation to continue, it is costing industry participants a lot of money and making WA racing look very unprofessional.

    When we had the problems with equine influenza back in 2007 I think there were a few phantom meetings in NSW or Qld.
