West Australian Racing

On Sky's Paul Murray Show Tonight they showed vision of Admire Rakti collapsing in the stall (not necessary in my opinion) then shortly afterwards conducted a poll asking the question 'Is Horse Racing Cruel?' The result.....

YES   26%

NO     74%

Proving most of his viewers have common sense.

+1 -1

I watched it also and Absolutely agree most of his viewers have common sense. Unfortunately the big brother watching, fm radio listening crowd is much larger and they are the ones that will get sucked in by the animal activists here.

If the ABC conducts the poll it would be the opposite result and I predict the ABC will milk this for all it's worth.

I was waiting for some "Coalition for the Prevention of Anything " to emerge....and it took about 15 minutes before a group spokesperson, Horace Bananabrain, started spewing forth nonsensical rhetoric to ban anything to do with people enjoying themselves. I myself feel really sorry for any flies that smack into the windscreen of my car....nothing worse than your arse popping out through your eyeballs......Anyone who wants join Louie Darfly  and C.R.E.D.O.F.F (Coalition Rejecting Endless Destruction Of F#ckn Flies), please contact Mr M.Ortein..........Showing that footage of the horse collapsing was exactly what I would expect from Murdoch Media....tasteless and totally unnecessary.

Interesting that two of the 'talent' made comments regarding the weight the horse carried may have been a contributing factor. Unbelievable ignorance!

I might add that racehorses, almost without exception, are looked after superbly. I know, as a kid, the horses got shoes before we did and were probably better fed. If the "Coalition" wants to focus on something cruel, head out to the outer suburbs and hobby farms and do something about neglected, starving "seemed like a good idea at the time to get a pony for young Horace" horses hanging their heads over a fence searching for a green pick of grass. Young Horace lost interest in his pony years ago. There is the real horse welfare issue.   And, yes, I am with you on Basil.......Basil could probably hoover up any contenders!!!

Social media going a little crazy ATM. It seems any fuckwit without knowledge of racing, but with a keyboard, is now an expert on every issue in particular equine welfare. I mean come on! We don't want it to happen, but it does. In 3 days it will be forgotten but these do gooders really piss me off!

Of all the tragic things that happened in the world yesterday, 2 horses dying simply doesn't rate.

Here's a fact, 30,000 children under 5 die in the world each day.

Perhaps people should be on facebook outraged about this. Perhaps it's this that should be making them cry and keeping them awake at night.

    Perspective is a wonderful thing.

Unless the critics are fully practicing ethical or environmental vegans, they are hypocrites. And should STFU

Heard a good one this morning (was from a vegan as it happens), when comparing race horses to human athletes - "yeah, but human athletes aren't forced to carry around silked up jockeys".

If anyone can tell me how you "force" a 550kg animal to do anything, well we'll both get bloody rich !

The answer to the above topic is absolutely YES....... it's extremely cruel to us the punters, especially when you get beaten in photo finishes all day long.

I had a huge day and ended up well in front, however, I was also on
    Nightingale Road
    Sysmo
Managed to get my bet on Target in Sight but couldn't get quick enough coverage to get my second bet on Reparations - who was a Racetrack Ralphy Tip
    Monumental
    Profit Street
    Hashtag
Commodoro at Bunbury for a packet for the place
    Al Faisal as above
    Eco Park at Geraldton

Like I said was a huge winning day, but with a couple of extra noses and better rides could have been humungous

I also found out today, that if we banned 2 year old racing and the use of a whip, both horses would of survived yesterday.

I was talking to a vegan chick once who was preaching about all the harm this and that does to you, and all that rubbish only to find her smoking later in the night...hypocritical idiot.

Shovhog, I didn't take offence to it. If we lose a sense of humour, we allow miserable people get their way. Your joke just showed how over the top people get, considering, we have real problems, like Ebola, war in Russian/Ukraine border and people in the name of religion, wanting to cut our head's off, if we don't believe in a fictional character.

I like one thing I read on a facebook thread about banning horse racing. Something along the lines of:-

    - I agree we should ban organisations that allow cruelty and kill so many innocent victims. We'll start with religion and work our way down.

Hey Damo, if you buy a horse that ends up favourite for the Slipper, remind us then why you think 2yo's shouldn't start until after January. And as for not taking on the uneducated groups that are attacking not just our industry but also those that work in it?, We have sat back for to long now and let them have there say. Good thing Peter Moody, James Cummings and M Hawkes don't feel like you do. Its time for the industry to rise up against these uneducated, heartless people and show the industry is nothing like they portray. It's ok Damo, those of us in the trench's will load up our guns and go forth, You can be the general that after the battle claims all the glory. First they want whips banned, next they want 2yo racing banned, after that its racing itself. Now is the time for the industry Australasia wide to stand up and take them on. Your Facebook post was pathetic. I live for this industry, its my life.

The anti campaign has a very short shelf life. Publicity only keeps them in the spotlight for mass media.

As for saying my Facebook post was pathetic, which part ?

The part where I said calls to ban the sport are ill informed ?

The part where I said a public argument with someone who is misinformed is only adding fuel to the fire ?
