What's the reason this time...protecting the track again????

Bull5hit that we get 3 city meets a fortnight during what is meant to be our best racing period of the year...Melbourne have 4 meets in 8 days on the same track during their best racing period..

Rio they then don't race on Flemington again for ages, midweek meetings in between the major metro racedays was significantly contributing to massive bias on the major days. You don't see them running a crappy midweek metro meeting atFlemington on the monday between the Derby and the Melbourne Cup it would make zero sense, so why on earth would you want them to do something similar to that scenario here. Not to mention the fact that every one of the four days at flemignton is a major raceday and they don't race on a single metro track for six months at a time week in, week out, every year either

it keeps connection to the races that's why....surely you aren't suggesting that it's okay that our premium track cant handle 2 meetings a week?? That has been the way we have raced for decades, so these courses should be built, maintained and managed to handle it....The same as Flemington is to handle 4 meets in 8 days.

But somehow we have to manage meetings away from the track to protect it...crap, bull5hit and unacceptable

Because I am as bored as Rio I thought I would do some comparisons with Melbourne for the five months from December to April:

    Moone Valley 14 mtgs
    Sandown 18
    Flemington 11
    Caulfield 3
    Ascot 33

There is no way that WA could conduct more meetings in the City over thus period unless Belmont was available as well.

agree....reluctantly. but it is a normal situation for WA and this is what they should be able to manage as this has been the situation for ????????? many years...

2 tracks that can be used alternatively is long overdue

How so? There are a sh!tload of totes at both venues. Well, enough to cater for 90% of meetings throughout the year in Perth. Maybe for the small number of meetings where more were required they could switch some across but surely that excuse isn't the key to why it can't be achieved? ?? Surely to Christ

it used to be Bobby...and for a while i was also fed the one about having to set up all the timing and recording equipment...until i finally asked "don't they have to do that every time they go to a country track?"

if we're talking mid weeks to help Ascot out it'd be very easy to set up an area for 3 bookies, 6 tote windows, a bar with 3 people behind it, a couple of food stalls and 300 chairs!!!!...but it hasnt been that simple for a long time...they could run midweeks at Belmont from mid- November to after the cup....6 meets and at least keep racing in the city during this time

"Going forward PR intends to use both venues nearly all year round as outlined in the Deloittes Report. This can only occur once the irrigation system and pump house are replaced at Belmont at a cost well over $500k. Timing equipment and vision needs to be permanently located at both venues at a cost in excess of $1m. So lots of dollars to make both venues work together.
Also for the record Flemington only holds 22 race meetings per year versus 46 at both Ascot and Belmont."

thanks for the offer @lame but i'll continue being a grumpy old bugger in the lounge room!!!
    :D

Yeah, yeah, yeah Tivers, the future is looking wonderful, we all know that....but this is a situation they have most years and they put forward dumb, dumb, dumb reasoning for it that suggest they didn't expect it to be a problem..

If the drongo's in charge admitted their deficiencies, they'd then be able to manage around them!!!! No, not this bunch of Ostrich's..Head's stuck up each others fecal channel so far they are blinded to the obvious...and its been that way forever..Having a new track, facility, or anything, wont change the poor management process' that have put our industry in such a perilous position!!!

Soooooooo saying we have a problem and we'll fix it in the future is GREAT....but they could have easily announced a work around until it happened.. The above would have given Belmont a 6 week break from racing during the "growing" season, then one meet a week for 6 weeks, followed by a full 4 months off. Heaps of time to fully recover.

But that would involve thinking and planning, and these muppets have proven that isn't a strong point!!
