Don't like to say it but David Hercules aside, and a couple of other handy types, the field is pretty average for an Inters Heat. 6 out of 10 are M5 or less, an out of form M8 that blew up last start and a couple of others that have been around so often they could do it with their eyes shut. Gee, no wonder us nostalgic s hanker for the past. Very little depth in fast class ranks at all. Race is interesting because David is drawn to lose but if he doesn't win, would the winner bother heading East for the final at Menangle?

Spot on mate. I would say 'Late Scratching'.

They tried something and it failed. Or did it? They have the final day on free to air TV. And a one hour spot on Sky where you can see all of the heats from across Australasia.

To have the final and the Chariots (as a "this is a future ID winner") on FTA is great work from the club. I hope it gets as much support when it heads west.

However, they also missed the opportunity to have  traditional series and have the best in Australasia in Sydney for a month.

Hmm after watching Beautide make a mess of them......Looks like he's back to his best in 1.54.4  Might be a lot of them staying home.

Was good to see him come out and run time after that ho hum heat in Melb. Cannot believe the price on Majestic Mach, haven't had a bet in any heat.

You have to love Herc, he's had a massive campaign, Freo Cup, Melb and back his honesty shines through.

Lost all interest since they changed the format. Obviously the final is interesting.

Yes, its a shocker of a system...no one hardly on course to watch at GP and it's a heat of the Inters for goodness sake  but very pleased that David prevailed...he is tough and gutsy but he was the best horse in the race and won well on a pretty decent drive from Woodley.  Will need an alley at Menangle to be in the chop up behind Beautide I think.

I'm wondering if the West even realised that the Inter Dominions heats were on as there was nothing in today's papers about Saturday night's heats.
Despite our deadlines, I wrote a summary of Saturday night's action just off watching them on sky.

Did you ? Tell us more Andrew... That was the worst round of heats I have seen in at least 10-15 years I wouldn't have wasted 2 lines if I owned any paper. Inter dominion is fading badly and it was my favourite event once upon a time.

Regardless of what you think of the quality of horses in the series, the best horse in Australasia is going around in Beautide and he was nothing short of breathtaking on the weekend.
The Inter Dominion will be resurrected when it reverts to the traditional format designed to be the ultimate test of the skill of man and the strength and endurance of beast later this year in Perth and there will no doubt be a huge crowd in attendance as there always is when the Inters returns to it birthplace, Perth.

I hope that I'm wrong but I fear that the horses from the east and NZ wont be coming. We have struggled to put one heat together let alone 3. We want horses to get over here from the east, go back to the old format so face 3 heats in a week AND they want them to go 2 hours down the highway and back. They have to scrap this bunbury idea.

You're going to have the Nugget, Pacing Cup, Fremantle Cup, Inters etc all in the space of about 6 weeks that's one hell of a big carrot, think you'll find they will come.

My concern is the return to the traditional format in Perth will harm any chance of the Fremantle Cup and WAPC attracting the elite. If we look at this season, those contesting the Vic and Hunter Cups are really battling with some genuine topliners scratched from the Inters. The breed has changed a fair bit over time, more brilliant and less resiliant. Would you want your horse to run in two G1s followed by a series of 3 heats in 7 days against the best in Australasia followed by a final 7 days later? I would be bypassing the Fremantle and WAPC myself. But time will tell.
