“I’m absolutely shattered,” Scenic Lodge general manager Jeremy Smith said.
“It was a straight forward colic operation and he went to get up and broke his leg. We had no option but to put him down.”
Blackfriars has been WA’s champion sire for the past seven seasons.
The 21-year-old son of Danehill produced his 400th individual winner — a record for a sire based solely in WA — last week.

“He was a beautiful horse and was still at the top of his game,” Smith said.
“He had just covered 90 mares this spring.”

i was at collingrove stud in 1997 to 2001 and i remember watching the VRC derby with all the staff as a homebred weaniling/yearling that we had worked and all backed. I have pics of him still as a foal.... Always been a fan.
