Vision on track @ Ascot

West Australian Racing
I was on track at Ascot on St Pats day. I noticed how it was difficult to see the races either when sitting in the stands or out on the steps/lawn. Honestly the quality of the picture on the screen in the infield is really poor and the tv screens above the standard seating in the grandstand are simply too small. My vision is pretty good but its a battle to get a good picture of how the race is playing out.
The screen at Pinjarra runs rings around Ascot's. Why? Ascot is #1 in the state but this really let's it down
+1 -1

I've been told by an unreliable source that Perth Racing have put forward funding for 2 fixed screens for both tracks at a cost of over $3million dollars installed. They would be bigger than Flemington or Randwick...... From my unreliable source PR wanted them fully funded by RWWA.

Where as the country clubs - same unreliable source - were funded by joint funding through the clubs, RWWA and Royalties for Regions. And each screen out in the country cost a total of.........No figure was given but the unreliable source said less than 10% of what Perth Racing wanted..

So it appears to me that PR are putting up with old outdated technology while they wait for funding from anyone else to install new screens...... Does that sort of explain it Ned???

Yes kinda thanks Rio. In the meantime I'd be stoked if they lashed out $10k for some good sized TVs hanging in the stand

Yes mate.....Whilst the ones there are better than the old rounded screen ones they replaced about 3 or 4 years ago, the size is terrible!!!!

I did hear a whisper that there may have been a deal of some sort done on the BIG Infield Screens in the 2018 funding. I've also heard that RWWA made a counter offer to fully fund a smaller type of screen..But i've not heard any update since late last year..

I reckon if someone wanted to ring Perth Racing you'd probably get an update on what is going on.

Perth Racing shouldn't require a handout from RWWA, they are rolling in cash from their massive development at Belmont. Only this morning I was driving past the vast complex of apartments and skyscrapers, they stretch as far as the eye can see. What really impressed was the multi million dollar new state of the art gymnasium downstairs in the $100M grandstand opened only recently. The Trainers facilities, race day stalls, underground entry into the midfield for Member's parking, yes this complex has it all.

Named in honor after the driving force behind this development, the Ted Van Heemst Grandstand rises above the pristine multi track racing surface as a shimmering reminder of the visionary  former Chairman of Perth Racing, assisted in no small part by a succession of CEO's and Committee (now Board Member's) and their tireless work in reshaping the landscape of Thoroughbred Racing in this great State for decades to come.

To commemorate his vast achievement, a series of races should be named in his honor. It's the least we could do to remember this giant of the WA Racing Industry.

Bring back the Rightfully named CB Stakes and name the maidens at Belmont every week after this genius to remind us all he has done for PERTH RACING. Which should still be called WATC

You have opened up a can of worms here. Ted comparing Belmont trying to eventually compete with Honk Kong is like Pingrup and Collie race clubs saying they will eventually run stand alone Saturday city meetings with every race worth 100K

No issue with naming a race after him Falc, None at all........

BUT, You NEVER EVER change a name from passed eras, The CB Cox Stakes was named after a man that obviously back in his era did enough to earn the right for the race to be named after him.

What this current committee/Board did in doing this is a disgrace. And they should be ashamed of themselves.

Does not matter if its Horse racing, football, hockey or Marbles. you never disrespect the past in what they did in helping your club get to were they are. It  is because of past generations that you ACTUALLY still have a club that exists today.

I could go on and on with this topic, almost Bookielover like posts,(which I love reading by the way). But I will stop here as the red wine is kicking in.

I don’t see why not, but to be honest, although Belmont is a 1950’s concrete jungle I find it a much more relax day at the track. Plus I think the track is better but if everyone is keen for another day I’m in :-bd

And for my two bobs worth. The rumours of where the money has gone are as strong as they ever have been. But with PR getting backed into a corner with next to nothing else to sell to replace the 10's of millions they have ..not got any more.....If i repeated anything that i have heard i'm pretty sure that i'd be getting more hassles than i want......There are too many people(and a lot on this site) who like to dob me in to RWWA and PR at every opportunity. So I am not willing to repeat rumour on this subject. Apart from to say in my opinion PR are as f..ked now as they were 5 years ago.

I recently got a message from a person who i know reads these pages and has dobbed me in to RWWA at least once, telling me it is in my best interest to do....whatever. I didn't respond, but it is proof of the power some individuals hold in this industry. After the Andrew Carter bull5hit i refuse to allow these scum to destroy me...but i also refuse to give them anymore ammo to attack me!!! ;-)

One of the reasons why I never have realised the dream of owning my own breeding operation is of course the financial impost that would have on my family, who in fairness are not in any way interested in Racing. On occasion there have been discussions, but if I can't do something myself, I just won't do it because the ramifications of going into business with a partner, particularly in WA, is that the landscape is littered with manholes that would swallow up a person hole. Manholes is not quite the right word, but it sounds like that.

That would of course result in legal action, something that I have had some experience in, and something that my partner in life does on a daily basis running her firm.

So it should come as no surprise that I get on occasion, but with increasing frequency, unsolicited phone calls asking for assistance or a referral to the right professional for matters that have turned sour. Of course I can't talk about, or name people that may have been discussed, I can't talk about any referrals that I may have given, but what I can say is that when someone asks me to turn the dogs of war loose, I know who to ring.

I thought I would just pass this on. I know a lot of people read this forum and don't comment here, but I thought I would just pass it on anyway.
