Christmas Gift is a great field, probably the draw has killed it a little bit. But....how good would it have been as point of difference marketable, promotable turnover booster if it had been qualifying heats and a final, as it was for decades? Can clearly recall the "3 heats, first four to the final" and even before that, "12 heats winners only' ....the build up was huge and some great potential super stars contested and won this race. Yes, it is a good field, and yes,  it could be (though i doubt it) a good race but to the people we are trying to attract to the sport to boost turnover, it is just PTR5 on the code and probably another win to Snr as the marbles fell his way. Give the scribes something to write about, talk about. Build some momentum.

That Stephen Croy Memorial at GP - looks to be a fantastic race  - i will look forward to watching that race

Looking forward to the resumption of pacing at Albany - and i think there is a bit of value - simply because in my opinion - the betting markets have all got all the Barrie Howlett trained horses miles under the odds

No better example than Race 1 - the 6 to 4 fave - well  Miracle Mary gave  it a start and a cold at its previous run- any form analyst will tell you that is dodgy form . I like the  no 5 horse Lets Rock Tonight - with the win boost you can get $7 - i think that is a really sound  e/w bet - in a low class race

A couple of others i like e/w  at odds - took the $25 e/w last night on Desiderio - its honest - got a good sprint - and as a result has a definite knock out chance in race 4

And in race 6 - i had something on Captain Casual at the $26 - wasnt a bad run at Narrogin last start - got pushed wide and kept finding the line

Feel awful for asking but who was Stephen Croy? No doubt an important contributor to get a Memorial Race but I can't say I have ever heard of him. Anyone know? Think Wildwest got the draw to hold up and win....think.....but interesting tactics may evolve over the short journey. Then again, for a $25k FFA, some may go into preserve rather than kill your horse mode.

Re the Stephen Crow bit - Jay Jay - it could be any reason

Over in NSW - about 7-8 years back - when they were still racing at Bulli - there was a guy their Leslie someone i think - and he wrote into his will - that his estate for 3 years - would have heats and a final in his name  for 2 year old pacers

And it was quite lucrative - like 10k heats and a 35k final - the Leslie such and such Nursery pace

And if your providing that type of stakemoney - the race clubs will put the race on - like i say it ran for about 3 years

    Thanks

I just wish a few more posters on the harness racing forum would put up their tips - and not just their tips - but also give a few logical reasons why they think they can win - and then others can decide whether to put any of their hard earned income on them
