Whatever became of Stewy Shenton who was a pleasure to listen to from a punter's perspective ? We all know why he left the scene but we've heard nothing since then.

Whilst in topic the "vanishing jockey" was it Phil Colombera ???? Whatever became of that story. Was he ever found ???

    Stu is going OK, velcro.
    He is very well considering the circumstances..he is gainfully employed and has been for years.
    He was a welcomed guest at his daughters marriage to Stephen Parnham some months ago.

    Agreed Dungy. Shenton was a very good caller.

    Was it Shenton that called Twin Spin's win and then reported trainers running up to his broadcast area to defend the rides on their beaten horses? It was comical.

    Yep, he was pretty good...asked me for tapes of my dads calls.

    In that infamous event :lol: of course Ken Bradley rode Twin Spin and none of the other jocks chased him & Twin Spin won as he liked basically, they were all called in & were in various depth of strife. But one jock called in & the Steward said

    "when did you think you were beaten Mr such & such ?"

    "when I was doing the form before the race sir" was the answer, true story :lol:

    Ken Bradley...thats a name from the past...wonder what he's doing...or if he's still with us.
    An unassuming rider, head down, tail up, no problems....

    The race was in 1982 no not Gordon D. Ken's son is/was a member on here based in New York . I talked to a jock who rode in the race recently had a laugh about the comment made by the said jock. Some of our top riders of the day rode in the race.

    hi darrah, yeah im still lurking and yep my old man is still around and is now an accountant bit of a change from riding horses. i still have the photo of twin spin winning that day hanging on my wall...rare flyer finished second and came out a few weeks later and won the derby..if piston has the video id love to see it..cheers

    Shenton was a colourful caller but got in the bad habit of potting jockeys late in his career.

    May not have been thinking too straight at that time though, who knows.

    I remember he had tipped & obviously backed a horse called Lararing one day at Bunno. It finished down the track & called it a "mongrel dog" as it passed the line - that was funny - though probably uncalled for.

    Is Jimmy Chadwick still with us ???

    Yeah Jimmy's still with us, I think he called Moora a couple of years ago, loved his saying "the boy got desperate, went for the persuader"

    Nifty trained a horse that always ran 2nd called Ranshow and i remember 1 day he backed it for the 1000th time and it got nailed in a photo and he said after the race ohhhhh Ranshow he said hwen i die my coffin will get pulled by horse and cart and one of the BLOODY horses will be Ranshow and it will be laughing at me :lol: :lol: :lol:

    I remember Jimmy Chadwick having a crack at calling the Dogs..... one go was more than enough.

    Re Shenton. Always played back tape recordings of his calls (loud) after the race. At country meetings it was a good idea to vacate the grandstand area quickly so you didn't hear it.

    Are you sure ? I worked with Jimmy at the races and trots and don't recall him ever doing that. Great bloke, great sense of humour.

    I remember Jimmy being on some show on channel 7 back in the day, pretty sure it was greyhound related??? :?

    Torp if I remember rightly Jimmy used to host the race replays on 7 on Saturday afternoon he'd leave the course & Countrycaller used to take over & do the last couple for a while there. But CC can cofirm that.

    I thought he did for a stage there....... or am I mixing him up with another caller (apolgies if so and have edited accordingly)... and yes you are right about his sense of humour

    Jimmy has been the on-course broadcaster at Cannington for a number of years and works each Wednesday and Saturday night.

    Jimmy calls the qualifying trials each Wednesday and is very accurate and colourful. He is also a member of the Greyhound of the Year voting panel and does on-track tipping prior to each race meeting as a televised preview.

    Jimmy hosted World of Sport which featured race replays of all codes on a Sunday morning, he also did the thoroughbred section on Track Time and The Racing Game on Channel 7 in the late '90's.

    He recently had a spell of ill-health but is now back to the top of his game. He is a legend and truly one of nature's finest. I have never heard him say one bad word against another person.

    Wrong horse there Dungy it was Ranson , Ranshow was a good horse Nifty went to melbourne with it ran 3rd at the valley
