    Ok, not a kid.....has ridden in Hong Kong and looked great in trials. Hope he gets a bit of support in starting up.

    Disgraced Rider Looks For New Start In Australia

    Disqualified jockey Marco Chui will move to Australia in an attempt to pick up the pieces of his shattered career after he was banned from riding in Hong Kong.

    The disgraced Chui is heading to Perth where he hopes to rejuvenate his stalled career after he undergoes a drug rehabilitation course before applying for a licence.

    The 24-year-old was refused a licence to ride in Hong Kong in January when returning from a 12-month disqualification for ketamine use.

    Chui had a poor record with the prohibited substances. He was banned for six months after testing positive in May 2009 and his latest positive in January of 2010 came only two months after he finished serving the six-month sentence he received for the initial offence.

    Chui was Hong Kong's champion apprentice in 2007-08 but after finishing his apprenticeship he struggled to build momentum as his career was continually hampered by suspensions.

    "I am still full of passion for riding, and I would still love to ride in races so I hope I can start my new career in Australia and get a second chance," Chui told the South China Morning Post.

    Chui will fly to Perth this weekend.

    "I have to take some drug lessons before I can apply for a licence," he said.

    "In that time I may have to do something else but I hope I can get my licence in Perth and then after a while I might have the option to ride somewhere else."

    Not real smart openly admitting Perth to be a stepping stone before even being granted a licence.

    It is good for him to have goals and an ambition (thats spelt wrong isnt it) to ride elsewhere because it gives him something to work towards. if he screws up he wont be going anywhere but kulin bush races. Because he wants to ride in the big league, if he is truely passionate and serious about rejuvenating not only his career but his life and his respect from the HK supporters he will keep his head down bum up, literally. the other thing is that by coming to WA he doesnt know anyone here to get drugs off (even though it isnt hard to find around there) but hopefully if he associates and surrounds himself with the right people he'll hopefully keep on the right track and hopefully the people that use drugs, im not preaching as i've been there done that, will respect his situation and not lead him astray. I say GOOD LUCK and all the best. There are several other people, jockeys, trainers, stablehands involved in WA Racing, rephrase WORLD RACING, that have had second to several chances. And there are great examples of great people that are living proof that you can rebuild your life and career if you want it bad enough. One of WA's leading jockeys is proof of that.

    yeah im not one to drop names slip - its a part of his life he has put behind him and doesnt like to get reminded about, and you never know he might be reading this thread.

    And in answer to you other ? regarding helping others i can tell you he definately has roll

    He has been mentioned before on this forum and all comments have been positive and complimentary on his achievement. Whether he reads this forum or not he can be very proud and I would think it is the best victory he has ever had. I have a family member who fortunately shares the same success.

    I think this bloke should be afforded the same second chance. He's having a crack at re-establishing himself away from his comfort zone.
    I hope he gets the support here because he looks like an outstanding rider.

    Hoop plans to leave troubles behind

    Marco Chui is working feverishly hard to salvage his career in the saddle.

    Chui has moved to Perth after being banned from riding in Hong Kong, where he was leading apprentice in the 2007-08 season.

    The 25-year-old was refused a licence to ride in Hong Kong in January when returning from a 12-month disqualification for testing positive to ketamine.

    He also had a six-month disqualification for the same offence in 2009.

    Chui struggled when he entered the senior jockey ranks in 2008 because of a series of careless riding suspensions.

    As passionate as ever about riding, he completed drug counselling and tests before applying for a licence in WA.

    Chui chose Perth after a recommendation from friend Thomas Yeung, who quit riding in Hong Kong two years ago to study business at Curtin University.

    "I'm very much looking forward to riding here," Chui said. "My good friend (Yeung) suggested it was a good place to come.

    "I love riding and I want to do it even better. I'm on a working visa for 12 months but I want to stay as long as I can."

    Chui has been riding trackwork for trainers such as Shane Edwards, Brendan Fitzgerald and Russell Stewart.

    He has ridden in 14 trials over the last two weeks and is likely to make his WA debut next week.

    Chui has enlisted former jockey John Claite as his racing manager.

    Claite has been impressed with the hoop's work ethic.

    "He's got a good attitude and is keen to ride as much work as possible," Claite said. "He's pretty keen to stay here longer than 12 months."

    Chui already has had some success riding in Australia.

    As part of the Hong Kong Jockey Club's program to give apprentices experience, Chui scored 11 winners when indentured to Coffs Harbour trainer Trevor Hardy in 2005.

    watched Marco closely yesterday - gave his horse a terrific run

    think he might get in strife with that whip action tho unless he makes some changes

    I'm interested to know how you came to that conclusion Rodent after it's only three runs appeared ordinary. The only positive I could see was that it had been 'fancied' at two of those starts

    Has shown ability at the trials. 1st up beaten 2.3L, thought it would improve 2nd up and prefer Belmont. The race was weak imo and it had a massive weight drop and positive rider change.
    There were 10 runners in the field. I had 9 of them very close together and only Hackett's Heart not much hope.
