West Australian Racing

I know that Aquanita's new trainer Simon Miller was at the sales in Perth on the weekend...

But just interesting to see what people have heard of there set up, what they think of the new trainer and how everyone thinks they will go...

Ah ok. I thought they were going to try and have stables at Ascot???

I remember somebody saying they were mad as they would struggle to get enough boxes at Ascot??

    Can anybody help out?
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
They were definitely looking at Ascot boxes - perhaps they also wanted an agistment centre

Simon is doing well from what I can see - appears outside owners are sending horses to him to

My friend is a part owner in two horses trained by Simon. The communication is outstanding, with email and telephone messaging service on trackwork weekly, the goals for the horse in work, and then forward to race planning etc. The stable staff present professionally at both race days and trial days. If a Trainers success was to be judged on presentation and communication, then Simon and Aquanita are a long way in front.

Now that results have started to come through including Black Nijinsky's win on Saturday, I think it is safe to say his star is on the rise.

I'll chuck something outlandish out there - will be top 5 trainer within 3 years. Like tete said, his communication and attitude towards owners embarasses many other trainers.

They have been on sale for a long time. One for approaching a year. If you are going to sell, you have to be priced to sell.

You are right on the money tete ! the one that u are talking about is way over priced ... if it was 100k less i would buy it straight away and it would be a nifty of a buy ! .. .. the others are not much chop really ... wallys place is ok but no yards ... Carl lives

I'm told that Wally's old place is going to be remodeled and come out the other end a better working complex. It is in a very good position for staff working horses in the mornings.

I don't have any listings in Ascot and haven't deliberately for many months as I don't think the majority of vendors have come to terms with the market moving 20% backwards across the board, and definately in horse sales. With the knock on effect of stakes money on the decline, and operating expenses increasing, now is not the time for vendors to be seeking sales prices at a 2007 level. However if you price to meet the expectations of the market, then you will sell. My two sales in Ascot, this past financial year, taking 59 and 7 days respectively to go under successful offer.
  • Simon Miller has stables in leake str, and the use of Darren Robinsons new complex in Mathieson Rd, will also be using the stables presently being built on one of Stan Bates 2 blocks. That would bring his number to well over 30, has quite a few in pre training with numerous trainers in Ascoy.

Wallys old stables have been purchased by the Yuro team (I am led to believe), no doubt they will be upgraded to 1st class facilities.

    Tete,

Have you seen much demand for the Swan Valley rural properties?

You are smart in that aspect as there is no point in taking a listing if the vendors are unreasonable with their selling price. Doesn't look good for the selling agents statistics. Marketing and advertising expenses must be hurting the two sales reps from porter mathews and homestead realty with the properties they have listed in Ascot.

Biggest demand seems to be from city dwellers looking for a "tree change". So if you have infrastructure for horses, some of that value may not be recognised by all the purchasers as it is not uppermost in their buying hotpoints. It is fair to say that the property would have to be something special to sell if above $1M and it would also have to be priced very sharply.

There was some reported buyer confidance at the sale on Sunday (my mate helped buying 6 lots) and in real estate I can say that there is also loads of interest if the property is in an appealing suburb. For instance, this month I sold a home in Glen Forrest in 12 days to the 2nd private viewing after 210 internet hits in the first 9 days. So it can happen.

Congratulations on the Glen Forrest sale as there is a high volume on the market in the hills area.

But vendors have to realise that they will need to probably advertise their property atleast 5 to 10% under market value to give the purchaser every chance of getting finance as cash buyers will always offer below market value due to the fact of having a smooth transaction.

I hope he continues to perform and has some luck if with the ones he is looking to take interstate...

Smart to get footballers etc involved in his horses, creates more publicity for his team...

    Smart operation all round.

my thoughts are...how many weeks did it take you to find this old thread?
i usually give up when i try searching for something.
as for the trainer, my unbiased stats have him as a star, so i would believe that is the case.

Has worked the marketing (very) hard - from which comes the clients, the cattle, and finally the results.
He has been very successful at it. A reminder to all - it's a business

Who do we think is the best in his yard....
Personally, I think Ron's Call has the potential despite his flop in the guineas

Simon is a modern day young Colin Hayes.
He is a good trainer, a thinker with the ability to analyse. In my opinion his career has not even started..he is still on his trainer wheels.
To top it off he is a bloody good bloke.

Loved his story on "Off the Rails" last night about the "go" they had on Sway to Go.

Particularly O'Shea's reaction when he found out after the event.
