Power Princess to Price

 A six time stakes winner, connections have elected to send Power Princess east in pursuit of further black type.

Trained by Simon Miller, a Melbourne preparation had long been considered for Power Princess who was last seen running third behind Conservatorium in the Group 3 Scahill Stakes (1400m).

Mick Price will now train the seven-year-old daughter of Marwina.

Intentions for Power Princess prior to her stable transfer had been a first up outing in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 25 before a potential Group 1 tilt in the C.F Orr Stakes (1400m) a fortnight later.

The Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on the same day is another possibility.

    VERY smart move after this prep off to stud or to one of the mare sales at Sydney or Gold Coast she would be worth a fair bit.

    Putting Power Princess under the eyes of Eastern States Stud's is a calculated gamble. If she performs well, the interest level in her rises. If she doesn't it only franks the already less than flattering impression of WA Racing. If her value right now was X, she won't remain at that value win lose or draw.

    Gamble are you kidding this mare will get more chance going to stud over there where the choice of stallions is limitless and at a sale there will be a lot more studs that will look at her than if she stayed here to me it is the only thing to do.

    Have to disagree Damo, don't think it will make any difference to her price, certainly wont go down, black type winner and Group 1 placed mare behind Black Caviar....doubt if she fails for a new trainer as a rising 8yo mare would make much difference to stud value.

    Price an absolute gun trainer.....

    It's her last year of racing before going to stud. More than likely an eastern States stud will purchase her when she retires. There are no races for her in Perth until May while there are plenty of races in Melbourne for her. We may aswell have a throw at the stumps!

    Sounds like you are one of her owners Fez ? Good luck with her campaign. Did you have a stud or stallion in mind when you were weighing up going East ? Quite a few well performed WA mares have been sold to the bigger players, I just thought it would be prudent to see if she matched well with say the top 20 commercial stallions standing in Australia. That may well have given you an indication of how hard they may have chased to secure her.

    I ran her through about 12 stallions just to see what may come out, and Fastnet Rock is your best choice, his sireline crosses beautifully with Marscay in your mare. Redoute's Choice is closely behind for the same reasons, with Not A Single Doubt and More Than Ready scoring highly as well through the same crosses.

    So if she were mine, I would be sending resume's to those Stud's standing those to see if they were interested.

    Stay clear of Stratum and Denman with this mare. Lonhro is only OK along with High Chaparral and stallions that are unknown like So You Think and I Am Invincible.

    Be interesting to see where she goes.

    Damo what would you say her stud value is? I was very surprised when Rosie Rocket passed in for under 200k??

    Her form is only in WA, and our black type status is constantly questioned. Being a six time black type winner is outstanding in a broodmare, even if it is only to Group 3 level. But to be nailed down to a guesstimate of price, I would let her slip into retirement for $250,000 and be happy that I got that much. Had she been able to win the Winterbottom for example, I would suggest she would have been a $500,000 proposition.

    Her stock would make Day One at all sales in Australia as far as her page and breeding goes, only conformation would determine which sale.

    Coolmore is the best option for this mare, as I don't think Arrowfield would pay that for her. I would be very surprised if WA's most notable breeder, Bob Peters, has any interest in her, as she has no scores of note with the two stallions he has a financial interest in.

    Races

    Even if she places in those good races she could win another 100 k this year

    250k wouldn't be a bad go I reckon price might get something out of her

    You basically pay by the crate. A crate costs $12k and can take 3 horses. If you have only one horse it is therefore $12k.

    My view is PP is worth more than $250k if she can win a group race over East. The way I look at it is that I rated Bliss Street and Fuddle Dee Duddle as equivalent horses in terms of broodmare value. Bliss Street won a Gr 3 in Melbourne and sold for $450k, whereas FDD only won a Gr 3 in Perth and sold for $300k.

    Even though FDD and Bliss Street have better pedigrees than PP, I still think a win in a group race (at any level) would drive PP value close to $400k.

    also depends on how many are going have heard 3k before but that was when 3 blokes lined up together a few
    so if you know someone thats looking at sending their nag over give them a call and line it up with them for the same flight , helps each other.
    or if it's a mare, get the stud over east to pay the $1500-$1800 travel allowance to go to there stallion have her served , race for 3 months then send her to the paddock or back home in foal ;)

    A crate holds 3 boxes. A crate costs $12k. 3 boxes full means $4k per horse. 2 boxes means $6k per horse. 1 horse costs $12k. The air transport charges by space hence why it is around a crate.
