R1. Konica Minolta Handicap - Scott Embry

Darren McAuliffe is in scintillating form of recent and will be looking to increase to his well documented winning strike rate. I'm fairly keen on Military Ruler and Dubreeze and dependent on prices will hopefully back both. Military Ruler was impressive on debut over 1400 and followed it up with a well supported victory. Warm-up trial was sharp beating Kim Mini and he looks ready to go. Dubreeze, a half to Sireeze out of Oaks winning mare Westerly Breeze is sure to prove the danger. Ran an impressive race behind talented 3 year olds Liberty's Gem, Malibu Style and Fuld's Bet. This is much easier and just needs to get over from barrier 10 to be a threat. Tycoon Target ran them off their feet on debut at Northam and will be sure to glide along out in front again.

2. MILITARY RULER - 4. DUBREEZE - 5. TYCOON TARGET

SUGGESTED BET - 2. MILITARY RULER $15 x $15

R2. Konica Minolta Print Solutions Handicap - Scott Embry

Great to see Dan Staeck back in the saddle, another top hoop in WA is always a plus. Real Charm looks to be one on the way up and should be ready to fire third up from a spell. Fancied in the market last start she was forced to do it tough out three deep and hit the line hard enough to suggest she is ready to win. Pontiff sticks and that's the way I'll go. Doubt You Catch Me looks a big danger, no secret that the Kellie Kersley-Dan Steack combination gives bookies nightmares and if there is money around I'd happily jump aboard. Soft first-up win, looks a capable mare on the rise. Oakhurst Flyer is always a lock for the trifecta and never runs a bad race. Very Special is the deserving favourite.

    3. REAL CHARM - 4. DOUBT YOU CATCH ME - 1. OAKHURST FLYER

    R3. Westspeed 3yo Handicap - Scott Embry

I'm happy to jump aboard Brackets at he has his first crack at Saturday Company. I managed to get on at $2.80 with sportsbet on debut at Northam before he was crunched into $1.60 and certainly didn't let any of his supporters down. Very green in the run to the line he was swaying around like a drunk but looks to have more swagger than a teenager hipster. Winkers added to racing gear should straighten him up and $4 is tempting. Fuld's Bet drops back from the top 3 year old level and was a pre-post fancy before the weight of support came for stablemate Liberty's Gem and surprise, surprise, he landed the money. Cracking place bet at $1.60 for those who don't mind taking shorts. Mamaroochy is a big strong filly, 2 from 2 this campaign but I must say I'm surprised she is favourite.

    5. BRACKETS - 2. FULD'S BET - 3. MAMAROOCHY

    SUGGESTED BET - 5. BRACKETS $20 x $30

R5. Tony Carter Memorial Trophy - Scott Embry

If I could back both in suggested betting I would. I think the winner will come from either Dubai Escapade or Ask Me Nicely and I will be willing to risk it in the quaddie and only take those two. Ask Me Nicely ran third in last years Perth Cup and with the engagement of Dan Staeck to the saddle I'm putting him on top. Meets Dubai Escapade 0.5kg worse at the weights from their last encounter but had him covered by over a length. They both made ground on a heavily leader bias track and will battle it out for the chocolates here in my opinion. Both are consistent and fool proof gallopers and using both as roving bankers in a trifecta or first four would be far from a silly bet. Raising Dubai keeps running excellent races and Peter Hall has done extremely well to make 54kg to retain the mount.

    2. ASK ME NICELY (NZ) - 3. DUBAI ESCAPADE - 13. RAISING DUBAI

    SUGGESTED BET - 2. ASK ME NICELY (NZ) $20 x $50

R7. Happy Half Century Tony Hills Handicap - Scott Embry

Typically open and tough 1000m sprint. These are very even types and which one I end up backing generally depends on how the track is playing. For the selections I am confident you'll get a good run for your money on Benito. Super consistent last campaign, finished in the money at 9 from 12 and 8 from 10 over the short course. Minor query is how he handles the Ascot track, 3 starts without a victory to date. Drawn perfectly and well weighted with the claim for BamBam Forrest. Ysmael is capable of reeling off very sharp final 600's when ridden quietly and he will be flashing late. Can't fault the form of Onadowntowntrain and last start he was backed off the charts before being pounced upon by Terkel.

    2. BENITO - 3. YSMAEL - 4. ONADOWNTOWNTRAIN

    SUGGESTED BET - 2. BENITO $10 x $10

R8. Vale Joseph O\'dea Snr Handicap - Scott Embry

Vital Edition didn't quite live up to expectations over 2200m last start and dropping back to 1800m looks ideal. Draw is lovely in barrier 7 Hall should have him sitting one off the fence and two back running about 6th til the 800m and then peel him out three deep for a customary sustained sprint and prove too strong. To fill the trifecta I am looking for value. Big Hold Up was an eye-catcher last start, missed the kick, settled well back and hit the line with gusto. Now his fourth run back from an injury enforced lay off of 33 months, almost 1000 days and I think is almost ready to show his best again. One more start and I think I'll hop on but almost certainly be sucked into a place bet. Marden is yet to impress since joining the Adam Durrant yard and will need to start getting some runs on the board to earn a Perth Cup ticket.

    12. VITAL EDITION - 6. BIG HOLD UP (NZ) - 2. MARDEN (IRE)

    SUGGESTED BET - 12. VITAL EDITION $30 x $30

Pants on Friar gave them a pantsing last time out and I see no reason why she should be winning again. Durrant rates her highly, suggesting she may not make this years Perth Cup but should be destined for that race in the future. If she is anywhere near that level she should account for these with ease. Always seemed to the eye as if she would relish 2200m and gets her first crack at the staying journey under WA's master trainer. Young Lionel has been disappointing throughout this preparation but dropping in class and with the Pontiff aboard I am prepared to give him another shot. Nunca Te Rindas is a genuine 2200m horse and will grind away to the line at odds. Toned is ready to fire while improvement expected from Oratism.

    6. PANTS ON FRIAR - 2. YE OLDE - 11. NUNCA TE RINDAS

SUGGESTED BET - 6. PANTS ON FRIAR $70

R6. Konica Minolta Giving Shape To Ideas Handicap - Scott Embry

As I understand Perthturftalk's very own Chris is going to be a father, I hope "He or She" takes after mum because dad certainly doesn't have much to offer in terms of looks. He or She, the horse, is one of the real up and comers in WA and proved that second-up when heavily supported in betting, settling midfield and pouncing on the leaders late. 1500m looks an ideal distance, drawn perfectly in barrier 4 and carrying 58kg after the claim for Chris Parnham who is riding in style recently. Hard to knock the foor and hard to see anything running over the top of him here. We've tipped him on here at his past two so no reason why we wouldn't tip him on top again. Le Shiller for second, he will head to the top and enjoy a three or four length head start on the favourite. Regimental Pride to chase valiantly as always.

    4. HE OR SHE - 11. LE SCHILLER - 2. REGIMENTAL PRIDE

SUGGESTED BET - 4. HE OR SHE $100

The showjumping exhibition at Ascot tomorrow, has the potential to be one of the better promotions Perth Racing have conducted. It's a pity I can't get there,  and more a pity that offer a photographic service of that event.

It could be quite a spectacle if handled correctly. The course I see is right under the public's nose, so no bad seats for anyone.
