to cutaway or not to cutaway

cutaway in use 2moro, is this the norm for every midweek at Belmont? Just gauging feedback, who likes it and who dislikes it? Im not a fan of it to be honest. And why only use it on a midweek, doesn't seem to be in operation on the weekend...?

    They gave the lame excuse for using it , because of safety reasons.
    Gee they come out with just absolute **** and feed us garbage expecting us to agree. and take their reasons as gospel.
    FFS if it was for safety , why isnt it used all the time.

    When the Rail is out its used for safety reasons
    Makes sense to me.
    Like the cutaway myself because every horse gets a run nothing
    Worse then watching you're horse being held up .
    Would like it to be used all time Esp at the tight Ascot Track !

    It's absolute rubbish and a reason not to bet here. Big players might have huge sets of barrier, early speed and PIR data that plays big in their models. All of which is made worse that useless when a cutaway is used sporadically.

    Irrelevant, it is the predictability of that event that matters. Barriers/early speed/PIR/jockeys are all to a degree quantifiable for why a horse will have bad transit.

    The problem isnt the cutaway itself, but the intermittent use of it. Either use it all the time or not at all. It's like one week the goal posts are 7 metres apart, next week they are 9. Try fitting data to that.

    If the big boys stop betting and the rebates stop flowing, will be racing for ribbons....

    Check out the horses that get the cheap run in the cutaway. Most times it is the horses who draw barriers 1-5. We are the only state in the country who has it. When watching the replays you will see in the head on pictures there are still many horses getting held up. Safety story is rubbish. You can fit 30 horses across even with the rail out.

    As I said above, not against the cutaway as a concept, just needs to be uniform.

    But i think the safety aspect is baloney, cutaway leads to slower speeds, which is far more dangerous.

    I think it rewards mediocre runs in the race. Does any city track elsewere in Aus use it?

    Its a incredibly embarrassing concept they continue to run with.

    The cutaway is mostly responsible for lack of pace in races, as each rider sits back waiting for the cutaway. Leaders get the easiest of runs in front, with no pressure really being put on till the top of the straight, it's not great for 2yo's who have an advantage of the running rail. No jockey want's to be the first to flush out wide with a cutaway as they get crucified...

    Safety issue is nonsense....if anything it is far less safe, as they all get to the cutaway and duck and dive all over the place...

    Needs to be stopped......ASAP

    Last week three horses, one on each side of the Clerk, squeezed past the tractor at the starting gates, when there was just about a 2M gap. I could see a run coming for one of them, but he waited until they were past the tractor before he dived towards the running rail.

    It was exciting.

    Youknowit, not having a go, but just to correct your statement that W.A. is the only State that has the cutaway, Bathurst in NSW have one too.

    Yes. I should have said city meetings. Sydney tried the cutaway some years back but stopped. Do Bathurst have the cutaway every meeting and how many meetings do they have each year?

    Wyong and Gosford have it occarionally as well

    Bathurst conduct 13 meetings a year. I can't answer how many times they use the cutaway.

    Bathurst 23 meetings in past 2 years. 7 meetings cutaway applied.

    So with the rail at 18 mtrs it still has 18 mtrs left. no reason for the cutaway then with 12 horse fields.
