Went for a visit to Bullsbrook and saw some outstanding yearlings and 2yo's (10 in total)by the new sire Mashino
They are extremely well boned, and have magnificent constitution.
For a small service fee,you could not go wrong in investing in one in the near future

You must have select mares. I tried to go to him in his first season with an untried mare. And was told, Not interested.
I was Gobsmacked to say the least
Big call for a young stallion though...

Breeding in WA is on Struggle st. Holding out for race performed mares is an idealistic dream in this State. I often ask breeders to buy better stock and then make good breeding decisions, but some days it simply is not achievable. This past season, I sent a non raced Denman mare to Blackfriars. It was a nicely scored breeding match, but more importantly this $81,000 yearling purchase with just two dams on her page is the type of mare that gets yearlings into Day 1 of a WA February Sale, and going to the best Stallion in the State for the last five years made very good commercial sense. She is a half to a horse that has banked over $500,000 and her family boasts many black type winners, but she couldn't run a yard.
I have a Snitzel filly that very well may be in the same position in the 2017 season. She also was a $70,000 yearling purchase with just two dams on her selling page. She is from the direct damline of multiple Gr 1 Sydney winner Slight Chance. Her family is loaded with black type. But she may never make it to the track.
So would these also not be suitable ?
As an example, I know of a Desert Sun mare that was unraced. She was a half sister to a maiden mare that produced a black type winner, but she was also a half to four horses that won Listed through to Gr 1, two of them now Stallions. Of course the unraced Desert Sun mare is best known as the dam of Black Caviar and two Stallions in All Too Hard and Moshe. She was out of a great family, but obviously must have had some issues or just wasn't good enough. Either way it's lucky she was sent to the breeding barn.
Just on WA Stallions, Blackfriars in the twilight of his breeding career at 20 years of age, is the only Stallion that should have any restrictions placed on him. It makes sense for his longevity but no other Stallion here is remotely close to that qualification.

where something like blackfriars already has the stats and is coming towards the end of he's rein the owners would be foolish to put restrictions in place and would be far better with a "just give me your money" before he falls on the scrap heap/passes away or is retired from stud just imho

Yeah I'm with you lame...Damo that seems a massive contradiction to what you have been saying for years!?!?!?!
The owner of the stallion is trying to get the best out of his asset for now and the future.....I pray that other studs follow suits in an effort to cull out unwanted mares producing substandard foals. If the stallion owners don't do that we will continue to breed under performing or poor quality produce. I think it is great to hear a mare being rejected - sorry its yours Chelsea - as it doesn't suit the owners stallions. It's not to say that the mare isn't good and suitable to other bulls...Just not that one.
It wasn't Chelsea's, it was mine Rio.
What astounded me was they did not even ask the mares name. Just if she had black type or at the very least won a Saturday Metro race.
:-??
She could have been a half to Black Caviar and they would not have known. Seemed to me to be a bit unprofessional at the time. The excuse I was given is that the owner of Maschino was probably only going to send his own mares to him or only mares with Black Type

So from my experience - that's very dangerous logic.
Way too much emphasis put on race record, and sales when it comes to breeding
I've had a mare that Coolmore done two foal shares with but she wasn't good enough for one of Yarradales 'special deals'.
Lucky Peggies Bid wasn't greeted with the same stupid idiotic ideals.
I was going on memory Jumly.......terrible damn thing it is!!
Yeah THAT is a bit short sighted. I was working on my experiences of a few years back where ever stallion owner told me mine would be perfect with their stallion. Until people on here with knowledge sent me notes, and met with me and put me on the right track, to better understanding the crosses and things.
To only want Saturday or black type mares is very close minded...If he wanted the stallion for his own use, then just say they aren't taking bookings for the season!!
But I still like the idea of stallion owners rejecting mares...but obviously not in that situation
