Bit of a surprise on how day one has gone. Lots of buyers on hand but prices don't seem that flash.

    The last few lots really soared the averages. Be interesting as the next couple of days the stock gets a bit better.

    Plus GST $19k
    Insurance $10k
    Handling & Transport home $5k
    Year 1 breakers, keep etc $10k

    $236k before entering training.
    Assume 2 years at $20k each = $275k to round it off.

    Standard Saturday win stake without WestSpeed - $36k x 85% = $30,600
    So with no WestSpeed eligibility, you need to WIN 9 Saturday races to just break even, with an Average priced horse.
    Can't think of many horses that have won 9 races.

    nah he's a tight wad. Who would buy one over there at average price for standard Saturday racing in WA???? An average horse over there, if bought back here would be done so on the basis of getting into stakes/listed adn WA Group races. So woudl probably need 4 or 5 wins to break even or better.

    Just got an email from Spicer Thoroughbreds asking for 30k for a 10% share in a horse they bought today. My car that i use for work of which i need to make a living didnt even cost 30k from brand new. Where TF do people get this sort of money??

    I dont know what they paid. From experience they usually add on alot of the fees that Tivers was referring to before selling the shares on.

    I've never bought a horse without already having someone owning it at that price. The practice of syndicated purchases only adds to the cost but the risk for unsold shares is huge.

    $240k is actually $264k (incl GST) for starters

    So that's $36k
    They'd definitely insure it - so there's another $10k
    So you're down to $25k or so margin - circa 10%
    And plenty to pay for yet.

    (Not defending syndicators prices btw there, more so pointing out all the extra costs many don't consider - ie over and above the hammer price)

    Sold Resetgold for $20,000 she was sent to I Am Invincible, who stood for $27,500 that year and the resulting filly sold today for $260,000.

    Currently in foal to Zoustar, they are averaging this week $200,000 and up to a high of $400,000.

    Interesting results coming out of this sale. Was told by someone on the grounds, who has a lifetime of experience, that the colt in question was 'badly offset'. He sold for $1,000,000.

    Another selection was referred to as 'didn't think much of him' he made $400,000.

    Yet another  definitive 'NO' also sold today for $400,000.

    From the family of Petrol Power, told no on Vet exam of xray, sold for $250,000.

    Another xray reject made $575,000.

    I can only imagine how expensive Sydney Easter is going to be this year.

    Exactly my point above.
    Imagine what the "below average" ones are like.................

    No doubt a gem or two among them and plenty of good future earning horses yes, but got to be a 1/100 chance of even getting your purchase price back bringing them back to race here.

    In saying that - those examples you speak of above Damo are more than likely pre-arranged.
