I like Iconoclasm if it draws a barrier and can settle close I think it will be right in it with the light weight.

Could not even run a place in the last chance saloon on Saturday.Hopefully it does not get in the way of horses with live chances.
The same goes for Fingermark in the Guineas.

Manbooker is the one providing he draws a gate.after getting the widest gate in his past 2 runs.and has run outside of his comfort zone.

Not keen on anything that has come over from the east. Of the locals its between MM and Achenar Star, leaning towards AS but will always be cheering Gatting home.

Bob's got four runners, that's a fair effort. Even got one of his old ones in. So as Railway's go, where does this one rank compared to recent years ? It seemingly has a bit of a tale but at the front end it has some handy horses without anything that would be regarded as a genuine G1 horse.

Why are Interstate horses still in the field for the Winterbottom when on the same website they are promoting who was on the plane ?

Its just that its neve evem placed at Listed level, let alone Group level, and yet it can run in a Group 1?

If there was ever a case for ballot then this is it!!

even if it were only a field of 10 the horse should NOT get a start.... X(

yeah if I wasn't allowed to run in the ATA stakes last year when it was an 8 horse field I'm not exactly sure how that gets a start in the railway.

Wrinkly may challenge Great Shot and hinder its chances

In saying that, I get that the owners would want a runner, I know I would!

    Should be 300-1

Great Shot opened $34 final field, now into $15 which is more like its price.

I cannot believe Gatting is $20. It fair dinkum smacked them last start.

Someone I spoke to said this was the first Railway in a long time, perhaps for decades, that has not even had a full field. Most Railway's have an emergency list and those on that list are reasonably rated horses.

As far as a 'record number' of Interstate starters goes, were there not more on the plane last year than this year ? About twice as many ?

In total,3 in Guineas,6 in Winterbottom plus 3 who are Kingston Town only horses and 4 in the Railway

Same as last year. Parnham does it year after year in black type races. I mentioned it on here before the guineas last year and here we are again.

Can someone smarter than me explain why Regal Counsel... a 62 rater, gets a start in the Guineas ahead of The Fugazi... a 63 rater?
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,485 posts
maybe the ownership has something to do with it...... >:P

I think the Guineas order of entry in prizemoney, not rating?
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
    why?
why have a rating if its about prizemoney...

    you must be right tho.

    Discretionary Balloting
in other words they can pick and choose.
maybe one owner or trainer has more pull than the other.

Gatting bar plates 'on';;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; last time they were added to his gear list  was after last years railway but resumed in may with them off... horse that  would   appreciate  rain.,plus  seems to run through the line with the stick in the left only one dismal performance when g. smith rode him with whip in the left and he didn't fire that day......would be interested in train of thought re bar plates?
