I think the biggest sticking point for a Sunday cup is the travel home factor on a Monday for visitors from E/S & others.

With punters having a morning chop at Overseas and Interstate meetings and going home to watch or listen to racing, not much money will be left for Kalgoorlie Cup which is late in the day. I see a Stuffup in the making. To watch punters at big TAB I go to 40% perhaps are not glued to West Aussie SCREENS. Will be interesting to see what comes out in the Wash.   .

A one off Belmont meeting on Fri or Sun would still attract t/over & even visitors in transit to Kal Cup. Laugh when Sunday racing was suggested those years back or Bunbury's coupla tues dates this season?

My assumption is that Punters who usually keep money for Sunday betting (to get away from the kids) will blow it early Saturday this week.

Friday as a Belmont Meeting. ????? Race to TAB to bet at Lunch time. Years back when employed (never worked) was to busy getting a beer or stuffing down meal.    Don't think times would have changed much.

    Cup Friday, Perth Saturday.
Surely Friday / Saturday makes no diff in Kal anyway ??? (ie they work 24/7 up there).

Counting on the money that is laid at KALGOORLIE as profit would be like pithing with the Wind behind you. VERY little return. If all the High Rollers get up to KAL I stand to be Corrected. OUCH that hurt.

Gee - tough for horses to back up with 5 days

With Kal Cup/Belmont run on the one day and SENIOR Riders choosing to ride at Bemont, then Kalgoorlie Cup has lack of expierenced riders (no offence pointed towards apprentices) and because there is so much Money at stake it could become a BUN FIGHT. I assume many Punters won't want to put big bets on the KAL Cup. Another reason why wrong choice of Meetings on the same day, which MAY cause a Stuffup.

There are three apprentices riding at Kal, Bishop, So & Miller the rest are exp jocks: Pike, Hall, McGruddy, Hanson etc

As I said neither here nor there big enough job picking and following horses. Though thank you for the Info. 8)

If Kalgoorlie wont to race on a Sunday for the vasat majority of their season they should be given no option of a stand alone meeting on a Saturday.

No provincial race meeting in WA on Sunday, shame. If Kalgoorlie remain stubborn maybe Carnarvon should jump to Sunday.

Couldnt agree more - cutting each others throats at the moment.

Kal Sunday seems too logical to me
  • I think its working OK, its not Kals fault there are small fields in Perth.

I herard the other day KBRC are building another 48 stables for next year, certainly are a club on the move

the kal cup is like a huge party, 15,000 people approx. that number would be halved if it was on a sunday, the kal cup is always on a saturday and always should be.

nothing wrong with the way it is. No shortage of riders is there?
Let Kal have their day in the sun, its a great carnival. Saturday is the go.

Not sure of the scratching of Flight Captain Diva. Had no rider all day & came out late. Will be finding out.

Windfields Farm was scratched because Maynard could not secure a rider at 53 kg.

2 horses scratched due to lack of riders and another 3 being ridden 1kg overweight - far to say they need to look at the situation next year.

Ridiculous having 3 meetings on the one day and no racing on the Sunday

Going to be a struggle to get Perth Racing to "give up" a Saturday, but in reality they are strengthening Kalgoorlie
