As an owner.......
West Australian Racing
As an owner, and with the forth coming RWWA's decision in a reduction in prizemoney, I'm wondering if it's all worth it. People will argue with me that the punter is the major player in racing, but, in my eyes, it's the owner. By owning a racehorse, we provide employment for trainers, strappers, jockies, breeders, stud masters, feed providers, and so on and so on. Without us providing the product, the punter has nothing to bet on.
So, why should I buy a horse in the next month's sales, if prizemoney could be dramatically reduced? Do I tell my trainer that he can't increase his daily rate, do i tell him and the jockies, that slings are a thing in the past?
It's a shame, but I might pull up stumps. It's easy if you are a multi millionaire, racing is a hobby, but I'm in the game to make money.
I've spent between $150-$200k in the last 10 years, so if I pull out, and other people have said they will do the same thing, that's a bit of money that won't be shared around.
It's just my thoughts, but I hope RWWA take this into consideration.

Let us have an industry with no punting investment.
The question will arise how many owners will run for blue ribbons.
I reckon we would lose many owners.
Maybe a vast majority of owners would be happy to run for no prizemoney.
There will always be a punter. It's human nature. If you provide a product, people will bet, either Oz Lotto, casino, horses etc.
Our problem is to get the punter to lay down their post tax dollars on West Australian race. I've got many suggestions, but my sole voice isn't going to be heard.
That's why I reckon the owner is the chicken and the egg.

The punters are always the forgotten group.
We have a trainers association, a jockeys association an owners association and yet the punter is always forgotten.
In my opinion the punter isn't treated in a manner which is befitting the investment he makes.
You are right there are so many problems in the racing industry Australia wide and the chances of addressing these problems very remote.
The Federal Govt has a lot of explaining for their lack of fundamental control of gambling and poor understanding of the racing industry model within Australia.
The TAB's also have a lot to answer for their lacklustre efforts in attracting punters away from the corporates over the years and their inability to market new products during and after the emergence of corporates so many years back.
A national tote would be the panacea but that will not happen in the immediate future.
The answers are out there but there are many in positions of power that do not want to listen.

Either of those two get removed from racing, we are then in a bad position!
SP - I reckon at $3k (or thereabouts) a month in training fees, not many owners would be wanting to race for ribbons
I intend to contact Sen Xenephon about this. I'm not sure how interested he would be but it is a morally bankrupt and dare I say it, an un Australian practice.
Obviously Player is guilty of the same thing although perhaps because they are aiming at a slightly different market.
If TAB's (tote and sports) and on course bookies marketed themselves as taking on allcomers and named those charlatans then perhaps some people might come back.
I think it's time to get nasty. These gutless, fraudulent corporates who ban winners need to be talked about more openly.
the average take is about 16%, but most punters lose much much more than 16%; have you ever wondered where the difference goes?
and that's why a national tote is not the answer.
I'm not just an owner, but a terrible punter as well. If I was decent punter, I wouldn't of backed A.Pleasure.
But as a punter, i get annoyed that we aren't getting the same product as the Eastern States.
This is true, I even suggested to Nick Griffiths about starting a betting exchange in W.A. It was soon knocked on the head. He didn't believe in it, but it's silly, we don't have just one Pizza Hut or one Coles. We have a lotto of people taking a pics of the pie.

Well said,
I still see people that are willing to pretrain or train for 50 a day what a joke  it's the trainer that will absorb the loss as usual.
If real - how and who ? (to report to)
Legal action (arbitration first step) through Magistrate's Court should be your course of action. I'm not sure if you can refer to debt collectors or not, but then they take their cut.
You don't need legal representation for Magistrate's Court.
Ha! Ha! Ha!
Better chase that up
I nearly fainted givin there are now stakes reductions .
