R1- SASSY TRADER was first up at 1200 against quality 3yo opposition. That’s not his go and now comes back to 1100 second up against a weaker field and drops 2kg. His trial prior to the first up run was really good when he displayed an electric turn of foot after sitting leaders back. Looks like finding a similar spot in this field from the inside draw and will just need clear running on straightening.
R2- LUCKY IN THE WEST trialled sharply in his most recent trial when the shades went on. Shades stay on for race day and so Paul Harvey which are both positives. Wasn’t super fast out in the trial but was able to muster nicely and lead and with a wider gate will have time to get push forward. He displayed a turn of foot when asked to go in the trial and if he can find the breeze here he’ll be competitive.
R3- BRITISH BESSY looks ready to win here third up at a staying trip after two terrific runs since resuming. Hit the line really well in a bunched finish first up before chasing hard behind a real talent in Truly Great at 1800. Backs up here which she has done with success in the past and drops in grade. Likely settles just beyond midfield with cover, which looks ideal and gets the services of Chris Parnham.
R4- BAD WOLF has really found form of late and can win again out to 1600. Was strong through the line winning at 1200 three back before getting no luck over the same trip on return to Ascot. Last start stepped back up to 1400 and once he got clear running monstered the line again and although his form suggests that’s his best trip 1600 looks like it will be no problem for him. Will get a long way back from the outside but if he can get some cover he’ll get home well.
R5- NOTORIOUS ONE was ridden forward to overcome his quirks last start and it half worked. Was ridden forward and with the whip in the left hand and although he still didn’t go straight he was able to win a little easier. Stepping to 1800 looks suitable and barrier one at the 1800 means he should be able to find the front again and provided he can improve his manners a little more every start he can keep winning.
R6- INVICTUS DOMINI hasn’t beaten anything but has always looked a talented type. Blinkers went on this campaign and since then is 2/2 winning by panels unextended in slick time. There isn’t a great deal of speed engaged here so Pateman doesn’t have to rush him across from the wide gate. He does have to prove himself in city grade but suspect he will have something left to give when he is asked for an effort.
R7- DOM TO SHOOT brings excellent form around the older horses back to 3yo company. Sat deep with cover two back before hitting the front early and holding a subsequent winner in Luke’s Gold to the line and last start simply found himself too far back behind EM TEE AYE. Meets that horse and the rest of the field really well at the weights carrying a career low 55.5kg. Will again likely find himself deep with cover but is going super.
R8- PLATOON was excellent first up in the Northerly and should only improve second up on his way to the Railway. Settled midfield and got home nicely into second beating a number of his opposition comfortably. Looks like getting a similar run albeit with off much softer tempo after they went ridiculously fast early in that race. Provided they don’t walk in this which they shouldn’t it looks a nice race for him.
R9- Best Bet: ELITE STREET was simply outstanding last start and only needs to reproduce that run to be very hard to beat. Was first up no trial when sitting three deep without cover the entire but was still able to unleash a withering turn of foot. Broke 33 seconds for his last 600 in a race that was run faster than the feature sprint on the day. Gets to 1100 second up and from the middle gate should be able to find some cover.

You Am I - I took 71/15 each way
My only bet of the day in what looks to be a hard card. Drawn wide, up in class and 1400m first up but he’s way over the odds.
