Shane Edwards has decided to take up a contract to trainer in the Asian racing jurisdiction, leaving behind his operation in WA as well as his satellite stable in Victoria.

The 38-year-old won the 2011 Group II Perth Cup (2400m) with Guest Wing, the 2007 and 2009 WA Oaks - with Westerly Breeze and Cassandara Shadow respectively – as well as the 2005 Group II Karrakatta Plate with No Questions.

The Selangor Turf Club has allocated Edwards 40 boxes in Kuala Lumpur while the trainer will take a 16-strong team with him when he relocates in October.

"Shane’s inclusion will only add to the already exciting and competitive racing in KL”. It is another step closer to making our product more international”, Selangor Turf Club general manager Term Boom Keng said in a statement.

It is a courageous move no doubt. What is the standard like up there in comparison to Perth? With all due respect he has hardly been setting the world on fire here in Perth or at his satellite stable in Victoria.

Good luck to Shane. Let's hope he maintains his integrity and doesn't get on the slippery slope some others have got on in Asia.
