Wouldn't Pattinson have been due to be rested / rotated anyway ?
Tarzan really does = Jane - No loss
Other two weren't even playing anyway.

    The issue is ?
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
Issue for me is Arthurs has asked them to basically help him do what he is supposed to be the expert on.
It's safe to say they probably thought they had no valuable insights to add.
Arthurs says there have been a few other misdemeanours - most likely not be these 4 guys, yet these are taking the fall for indescretions by others.
Khawaja wasn't even playing so how can he comment?
They weren't told their would be severe repurcussions for a failure to do "their homework", which are clearly out of whack with the "crime". A more appropriate penalty would be an extra training session.
This clearly shows the wrong people/positions are empowered atm.
Arthurs record is deteriorating by the match and Pups track record wrt people skills is poor to say the least.
    Katick/Clarke blow-up; Simmonds/Clarke blow-up; Hussey/Clarke blow-out - what's the common denominator.
Take the captaincy off him and give Steven O'Keefe or Haddin a go.
Arthurs should be sacked or at least all other powers removed from the coaches position. Clearly both fail to look at the bigger picture and should consider themselves lucky they didn't get their heads punched in or be faced with a player revolt - although their probably is one going on behind the scenes. The last skeric of team unity has just disappeared...

Cricket is a business...In any business you take orders from above, regardless of whether you like them or not..or whether your boss is a C...or you dont like your workmates.

size of contract /less homework= im earning a shit load doing what i love(do the 5minute HW)

Saw an interview on ABC..apparently they do homework at state level as well??

Never been a Clark fan..just have a dislike for him and cant put my finger on exactly why....but you cant deny his talent.....and for Mickey...GO THE SAF.

Has anyone on here ever had a worker who wont tow a simple line? and if so what do you do?

Yep - Arthur is in the right.
Regardless of whether it's his job to analyse the team or not, the players were set a task (for which they're well remunerated) and they refused to do it.

However.....................there is a common theme building here, and they're all building around one person - Clarke !
    Clarke v Katich
    Clarke v Punter
    Clarke v Hussey
    It goes on.............................

You do not get them to do home work with recommendations everybody knows will not be taken on board.

There is only 1 leader, everybody else has to follow but when that leader is a c... you are disarray when thinks are not well,

I'm seriously considering cancelling my ashes trip.
Try again in 4 years - maybe Clarke will have retired by then

The sad thing is, after listening to a couple of his interviews, I think it sums Warner's capabilities up to a tee.

Can this tour get any worse? 0-283 this time...
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
F@rk me, talk about stiff. If Ed Cowan was any further forward he would have been standing at the other end!
The umpires would know this - as the square leg would indicate to the other ump that he is batting out of his crease.
A 4th grade umpire wouldn't even give that out.

Interesting that despite all the carry on - we put up our best performance of the tour to date...... (Pitch conditions notwithstanding)
  • RhinoRhino    208 posts
It's bad when our best performance to date is getting beat within 4 days. Not sure what we will do with our team. Forecast is for big turner game 4 and Doherty is no where near the standard and can't possible play

    My 4th test line-up:
Cowan, Warner, Watson, Khawaja, Haddin, Smith, Maxwell, Henriques, Starc, Johnson, Pattinson
No doubt track will be a turner, but no point playing spinners that can't take wickets.
Resting Sids and Clarke and giving a few an opportunity to cement a spot. Hughes was dropped before Homeworkgate, i can't see any reason to give him a repreive, Smith goes in front of him. It's either Hughes or Warner to go out, Khawaja HAS TO PLAY.
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
How's Warner still getting a game.
Laugh at those suggesting Cowan should have been dropped for Jane to open

Smith, Maxwell and Henriques will all get exposed in England when we are playing against 3 genuine quicks. Smith and Enriques both got cleaned up (in different innings) by the Indian seamers this test and that's on as big a feather bed as you will ever find. I think whatever hapens in this 4th Test we need to disregard any performances from this series when we look to England.

Why can't we just pick our best 6 batsman, best 4 bowlers and our best keeper/batsman, we werenumber 1 team in the world for near on a decade doing that. If you have a Flintoff or Kallis then great but playing 3 average all rounders in one team is never going to work.
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Hilfy has to play in England, and Harris is starting to look fit again.
Cummins will be a chance by then too, and Patto and Starc, and I reckon we're alright for Ashes (plus Siddle et al)

Bats.....................well, I'll leave that one to someone else (ie I give up)

Whats the deal with Bird? He would go great in England...really liked the look of him.
  • RhinoRhino    208 posts
Stress fractures in his foot I think. Surely he would get a crack in England if sound. He bowls great areas and u would think conditions would suit.

Went crap on the Aus A tour over there

You may laugh but I think they are not far off and can draw or win the last test then launch into the Ashes they have the attack as mentioned to win the Ashes and the 10 test series alot of good bowlers.
They should throw Watson to the wolves tell him to open and he HAS to bowl will be very handy in UK who he opens with probably Cowan with Warner or Marsh at 3 then Clarkey, Khawaja and raffle no 6 no idea.
But Haddin must stay for next 11 tests is one bloke who I guess could get Clarke to pull his head in regularly and provides real spirit they are not far off the poms.

I actally think we have quite good depth in our quick bowling and wouldn't be surprised if we went In with 4 quicks. I'm not a big fan on picking allrounds just for the sake of having one. For mine they either need to be able to hold there spot as either a specialist bat or as a bowler henreques/smith/Maxwell don't come close. Is Cummings back fit atm and playing any form of cricket?
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
Ok here goes, my team plus 12th man for the Ashes in batting order:
Cowan, Watson, Khawaja, Clarke, Doolan, Ponting, Haddin, Agarth, Cummins, Pattinson, Siddle, 12th Henriques.
Starc has now broken down again. Johnson, Hilfy, Harris & Bird all behind the blokes listed. Raffle the touring spots.
The current spinners aren't up to it so may as well give Agarth a go - a decent go.
Bring back Punter - he's found his touch again in Shield and has dominated unlike any other batsman.
Chris Rogers should be the other opener that tours, Wade reserve keeper and i'd find a spot for Mitch Marsh in the squad.

Out of interest does anyone know who topped shield runs this year. I like what i've seen from agar. He tosses it up to the point where he is all most to show thru the air mid to low 80s but atleast he gives himself a chance to beat the batsmen in fl night. Did we push the leggies visa thru. Wouldn't be surprisedif he plays while agar develops
  • goosegoose    1,638 posts
Doolan is a widcard Funkster what has he done over the summer? cant see Ponting returning the rest look good Agar seems to be only a matter of timing what has happened to Starc?
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
Punter was leading run scorer at better than 80 average. I think another Ashes tour would prep him up to fill the void.
Doolan went ok, 4th most runs 683 @ 45. Technically he looks good and he did score that big 100 for Aust A against a full strength Sth African attack early in the summer.
I think it's pretty obvious the bats we have in there atm aren't up to it - consistently. Warner is too hit or miss for mine.
The poms would love Hughes to tour. Their attack would be lining up to bowl to him.
Like Goose mentioned Watto needs to find his spot..... or Henriques takes it. Whether that's opening, 3 or 5 or 6 i'm not sure. Clarke has to bat 4. I'd still play 4 other bowlers though and only use him for 2-3 five over spells an innings
