In the next 24 hours you would think, a verdict on this long running case should be known.

    i think we know the jurors verdict.

    if it is what we think there will just be appeal after appeal until the whole sorry mess will just disappear.

    its happened before and will happen again.

    disclosure: i do not know the defendents from adam and only base my views on what i have read.

    Yes, second day of deliberations. The attached story suggests a sentence of up to ten years is in the offing for a guilty verdict. So there is a lot riding on this outcome for both parties.

    Looking at that photo of Peter Bartlett, I haven't seen him in 5 years, and in 2012 when I was last in Perth, he was on holidays and not working, but the bloke looks to have aged 15 years in the last 5. I suppose the pressure of the possibility that you can do serious time if things go against you, will do that to a bloke.

    12 good men and true will give the thumbs down but appeal after appeal will see the matter disappear.

    a single mum on the bones of her bum diddles centrelike for a few grand and cops 2 years...go figure.

    Be careful gentlemen. You don't know the facts and from your comments, the people involved. They are good and generous people. This matter should never have gone to Court. For the record, they don't owe one cent in tax and the ATO acknowledges this.

    cant believe some on here actually want to have pot shots, this thread shouldnt even be on here in my opinion. Have some respect gentlemen, this is not racing related in the slightest.

    I don't think taking pot shots is wise. However this is a mainstream news item and subject to the verdict it will be a lead item for finance journalists. I hope Ron comes out of this well but I'm not going to make out like it's not happening.

    Thanks for the warning Theo. And i cant read anywhere on here where anyone is having a pot shot at them.

    These people are very prominent in our industry, and anything that they do in business - which one assumes has financially helped them gain this postion within in this industry - is of interst to the industry. 

    If they we're a RWWA clerk and a ownr of 5% of a PInjarra maiden then it woudln't be of interest.. But they are prominent and do a lot to support and help promote and fund the industry.

    There fore it has a connnection and an interest for all in this industry.

    If it was a family member of mine, or a close friend i would also not want it to be discussed on here..But i'd also see that it of interest and just not read the thread.

    Each to their own..but the decision will be interesting to hear when it's handed down...as will the many appeals thereafter if it doesn't come down in their favour.

    Regardless of that, they would not be in court unless the authorities thought they had a case to answer.

    No different to the racing boys wielding pool cues in a pub. Racing people doing things off the track, entitled to be discussed in a general manner, which from what i can see from posts above it has been.

    have just returned from kevi willisons funeral/wake.

    some VERY, VERY prominent racing identies there...interesting privvy discussions on this...

    the judge has said he wants a verdict by monday so watch this space.

    totally totally different source...but heard very similar Falcon.... And this is definitely the place to be talking about it......how many horses have been too expensive for some of us to buy not for these people???

    Monday will be very interesting......wonder if it may have an impact on the Karrakatta this year??

    I'm told by a court watcher, that the jury asked for testimony transcripts to be re-read to them.

    here is what they are now looking into..must be a real headache for the jury to get there heads around. You wonder how much one person already admitting to it being a fraud influences their decisions..

    I spoke with the boss when she got home, and she is of the opinion that whilst judges try to get jury's to go back in and hammer out a verdict, it seldom works.

    I don't know about that. The ATO have spent an awful lot of taxpayers money on this case, and I think they will drop it when the jury returns still hung. They did get a conviction so they will see it as a victory of sorts.

    In a lot of ways I would like to see Ron Sayers be exonerated, a conviction does nothing good for Racing.
