woohoo, As it is the members money your spending can you make sure you have 5,000 seats for the members?. With 2,500 members now, that would then assure you a decent number of them coming along regularly if they know they can get a seat in their club.

Not normally an issue getting a seat in the Members at Belmont - the place is often half full.

LLS, you have sighted our plans!! Yep, looking at having a ripper top deck at Belmont. Expect PR to make formal announcement in late January or February about new and much better plans for Belmont. Really special.

Perth Cup went well. Very comfortable crowd between 15,000 and 16,000. All well behaved and great atmosphere. Different crowd than when we use to stack in + 25,000. More patrons who know and respect the races.

They just cant here the bloody races Theo in the Grandstand the speakers are crap stand to the right of the Mounting enclosure you cant hear a thing of the commentary

Its archaic PR need a decent sound system if Ruby Rose has one why doesnt PR ?

The tiered open boxes like the states is a winner put a beer garden in the grassed area at Belmont

Get some better food and and have red light specials on certain beers say for r 1-3 then 4-6 ETC

Belmont has real potential as an outdoor venue for our very mild winters

Ya going to lose more and more people to home comforts so bring them to the track bean bag lounges

    Coffee bars with proper Baristas

On course jackpot pick 6s or pick 8s the pools get huge and the crowds will come

I am free to discuss marketing Theo had 30 years at the caper no offence but PR marketing sucks

Rio, Top deck will be reserved solely for members as will another floor and for big days at Belmont we will be able to use the convention centre area. Will be no problems for members. Will be a venue where one can go any day for a drink and chat with mates. Will have an old fashioned lounge, just need an open fire place and be able to smoke cigars - but unfortunately the nanny state we live in prohibits fire place and cigars.

Oh you can get a seat easy just on a rainy day chose one where the roof does not leak on your head happened to me true story

only if you get there 2hrs before the first race.....and then you have to stand up to see the track as all the good seats with track views are taken by non-members or the pay by the day patron, instead of those who support the club 52 weeks of the year

OH did notice one thing yesterday that was a bit average - the TV's at the parade ring bar were crappy little CRT 4:3 and had little colour (every horse was racing in green!) - need to replace them with some LED TV's!
  • TheodorTheodor    199 posts
PT, there will be a new sound system in at Ascot prior to next season. Replacing the current one is not only expensive (circa. $500k) but very complex. Have experts from across the country advising us on this. Happy for any constructive ideas on marketing.

Don't expect too many advancements at Belmont. Forthcoming announcement will clarify why this would be a waste of members money. Yes Rio, we do take member's funds seriously.

Are they still using Rank Arena 1970s TVs?

get somone to check out the Moama Club layout...Seriously it would suit our club very well..or talk to me, i'll describe what i mean...if you cant seat a minimum of 4,000 members and guests every Saturday, then the current members are being duped...phark the public, the club is there for the members benefit firstly..

Geez Rio, you are playing with fire with some of the forum members who think PR should be there for all race goers not just members. We would love to make more changes but most members don't like change. They will happen but with respect to older members.

500K well spent its appalling bad enough you have a bloke calling the races making blue after blue but you cant even hear him hats of if its fixed by next season

Marketing mate put on dont go to bali days come to Belmont 2 dollar Bintangs they will come from everywhere wear your Bintang t shirt for a free mystery bet

Put on Bali theme in winter beach party day best day by a mile is Italian Day awesome

What about a New Zealand day you have Italian and Irish days you know how many kiwis live here

Get and old crooner like John Rowles over put down a Hangi maori bands it would go of

Biggest thing I hate as a member is having to pay for a race book how many do PR throw away each week

It is the little things that win hearts and minds not things like Super Saturday and blowing all our good races in a day

Theo I can buy 3 bottles of Yellow glen bubbles for the Mrs and Mistress for 22 bucks at Dan Murphys

In the Members I pay 90 for 3 bottles that is 4 times the price

Do u see the picture of why people drop of going to the races

Mark ups are fine and needed to cover costs wages but 4 times is crap

I drink Peroni Light if driving I can buy it in the members yet in the public areas I cant why not ?

i want to sit down in the members and have access to good tv screens, good service and actually be able to see the track.......i'm a member as well and i want to use the facilities..if the public want to be comfortably seated in aircon comfort all year round, become a member, otherwise take your chances. A lot on here don't like that comfort, they want to rough it out in the heat with $5 beers and free entry..give it to them, but make the members area comfy and the spot to be

I have been to Ascot 6 times this season and not once could i get a seat in the members, one time i even got there 90 minutes before the first race...not good enough

well they are idiots PR should first and foremost look after the very people who help keep the club operating US MEMBERS screw the non members who want everything yet wont stick there hand in the sky rocket for a membership

I will make sure the marketing guys at PR read this thread. I personally like the Bali theme but lots of people, especially on this forum, don't want the yobbos attending the races. I love Bali and go most years but hey, everyone has their own preferences.

Cant say I have struck that mate I head up to the top deck bar and always get a table by the window if there before the first

Tho on level one of the members I notice how many on day passes pull tables together and save seats for other day passers not on

IMO Theo a rule should be no non member or day pass member can sit in seats or take a table up until after race 2

On the sound system, what we want to put in place is far more complex than at any other stadium in WA. We need the ability to have different races at different sound levels at multiple locations all playing at the same time. We have approached all the experts in WA, but none have ever done what we require. Most agree it is beyond their capabilities.

no problen with yobbos on the track Theo just not in the members its got slack the dress rules just because a bloke is getting on he should not be let in wearing a dirty old zip up cardy and tatty slippers or why are women in micro shorts allowed in the members can a man wear shorts NO

NZ day would be a winner big crowd for sure kiwis love the races they love a sing song to on the turps and toe it in with a bledisloe cup clash and make sure you show it and the place will be packed

PT, you and the Chairman sing from the same hymn sheet. He is always on about improving the dress sense. I am hoping we will see an improvement with the Trainers. This group is important for setting standards in the Mounting enclosure.

instead of a kiddies area put in a free entry area...big enough for 500 people. 2 tables, 8 chairs and 1 umbrella... sell stubbys for $5 and shift all the rank arenas and old sound system in there for them...Give them what they want and make the members area nice and comfy for THE MEMBERS of PR

Make it mandatory for anyone on the Mounting enclosure for men a shirt and dress pants no jeans

NO ONE should be wearing jeans in the Mounting yard yes I noticed Ted looking very dapper the other week having a sneaky punt on his horse that Dubai thing

Mate yesterday was Perth Cup mates said the Security at the Escalators was a women about 65 fair go

You race with largely the public's money via Statewide tote turnover. However you want to then exclude people from certain privileges, mostly funded by them, because they don't conform to your outdated sense of European dress sense ?

What an out of touch group of people you are.

Do we dumb ourselves down to your level of dress sense? Aspiration is not a bad quality.
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
the general public can dress however they want...The members area is and should be a step up on general admission areas.

I'm not an advocate of formal wear in the members area as out climate doesn't suit that attire, but we do certainly need to aim higher than the current level we achieve..And everyone in the mounting yard should be on the same dress standards as the members.

Love the concept of a Free Entry section...put it down near the carpark at Ascot.. Fenced off with a drinks van, sausage sizzle van. a tote van and 1 or 2 bookies...all about giving the public what they want.. Limit it to 500 people...Seems to be what some on here are keen on. Grass roots racing at grass roots price!!

Interestingly, from the feedback work PR does, one of the real positives of going to the races (and I believe this to be world-wide) is the opportunity to frock up for the ladies. And for us blokes (and I believe this to be universal as well), is checking out the fairer sex in their lovely frocks!
  • PuntingTragicPuntingTragic    1,141 posts
Blokes should frock up as well
If a member or a trainer/owner in the mounting yard I don't care what people wear in public areas

Weather is a factor granted bit surely most people in racing can afford at least a decent shirt an pants

You watch racing on TV in the East you see all the trainers looking sharp in nice suits

It's about lifting the standards for all members an the mounting yard

Again fior the non members here I don't care if you wear your shorts things an Bintang shirts it's GA so who cares

The food in the members is ok reasonably priced except Flying Colours which is not good value m

The service in the members is good as a rule

agree totally for the once or twice a yearer's... but as a regular race goer to the members a good neat attire is a must to keep the standards at expected levels.....hard to enforce formal wear in our weather conditions, especially as so many cant get a seat in the members area...

Hey why don't the committee select 8 people randomly from the members floor tables and invite them to a day inside the committee room for a free feed and drink??? It'd only take up one table in there and would free up several more tables in the memebers area. Who knows some of the committee may even get to know soem of the great unwashed who pay for you guys to swill around in the free trough of the committee room every week!!!

Put forward the caged free entry area Theo....it'd be a bit like caged fighting, and if embrassed by the more frivolous within our society on the slow days at the track it could also work as free entertainment for the rest of us!!!! Belly full of cheap alcohol in the hot sun with nowhere to sit, and watch the sparks fly at 4pm!!
