Probably 90% or maybe 100% of you may disagree with me, but it is my opinion that since the introduction of Sky Channel the racing product has started its journey down the plughole.
They have made themselves an authority on the sport and made disciplinary arrangements for many of the race clubs, to provide racing to suit the Sky Channel requirements.
They are only interested in providing vision of racing at the lowest cost to themselves, and no thought is given to providing insight into the racing industry.
One of our recent Railway Stakes races resulted in a close photo finish, instead of concentrating on this , we crossed to a dog race.
Sky Channel are only interested in their own profit and are trying to rule Australian racing with a big stick,.go away 
Sky Channel  are accountants providing vision of an industry that they have no knowledge or care for.
It is my opinion that Sky Channel have set the Australian Racing Industry back 50 years if not more.
Go away accountants and stop your wall to wall coverage, which impacts on the overall racing enjoyment for the general public.
There is nothing enjoyable about racing since your moneymaking interference.
Have a look at recent figures and concerns from the racing industry, this I lay at the feet of the Sky Channel board and their profit ideals.

    The TAB has only generally concentrated on one marketing ploy over the previous 15 years....More racing, more trots, more dogs. More and more inconsequential meetings from all over the world for punters to invest on almost 24 hours a day. They have made the TAB a casino in almost every sense. Nobody loves a bet more than me but the gluttony of racing now is a turnoff. High takeout rates on all bet types has also contributed to a decline in the game.

    13/14 $120mil

    Hardly an industry in decline financially (similar increases expected over the next 3 years).

    While people might not like certain things about racing,  the Sky channel strategy is a big part of racing`s ever increasing financial returns to participants.

    Logically that growth can't and won't be sustained, the WA tab was technologically inferior previously and finally upgraded the methods and ease with which it can be accessed, there were extra meeting covered during this period and that has now reached saturation point and more importantly people out there are really struggling financially and don't have the disposable income they had previously and that's only going to get worse over the next few years.

    I meant a decline for the punter Fastmoney . Not for the industry. Takeout rates on all bet types have slowly increased over the years , the creeping up in takeout rates has been on a consistent spiral for many years.

    The distribution comes from punters.

    The returns are amazing when you consider the corporates and Betfair were irrelevant 10 years ago.

    Might be going off early about the saturation point, RWWA estimates expect a 5 to 10% distribution  increase over the next 3 years.

    Let's just say in relation to too much inconsequential racing in all three codes and to takeout rates being too high that we can agree to disagree. Today their was a lazy 280 races, trots and dogs to bet on. Please TAB no more. =;

    An individuals preference over a strategy that has produced 10% per year increase over the last 10 years?

    I don`t understand why punters get upset over "too many races", if you don`t want to bet on certain races don`t bet.

    Inconsequential to some could be income to others.

    Interesting that the HK model that excludes everyone but the chosen few, is gambling on more " outside or simulcast" races than ever before.

    and scrap sth Africa, Sweden, france and all those other non disrecript races.....they are all on at ungodly hours..who in the pharque bets on them? poor victims, that's who..half full of singing syrup in front of a tv with a tab account...

    Reckon there is still some growth there especially over the summer period with programming the trots getting the inters for 3 years should set them up over summer for a great period.
    Still think there is a place for an international jockey day over December or early January would cost some money but would pay for itself with publicity and turnover doesnt need the top races on that day.

    They lost heaps last time they did it. Will never happen again in the near future.

    The jocks never brought the crowds in last time so all the expense for little return. Doesn't help when some jockeys girlfriends spend 3 days straight in the day spa and charge it to the room that PR are paying for.

    I'm not sure if the racing industry understands the competition..

    Racing is an old mans game all the kids are into sports betting it's quite simple. In ten years time racing will be absolutely dwarfed by sportsbetting.

    If figures are going to be quoted as to how well the race clubs are doing with TAB distributions, then we need to compare like for like and allow for inflation. 

    I wonder if it is possible to check the number of race, dog and trot meetings that were run in 1994, compare that to the same number of race, dog and trot meetings run today, find out what the distribution to the race clubs was, allow for inflation, and then we might know if more and more meetings has meant such a huge difference.

    In other words, if in total there were say 500 meetings of all kinds  run in 1994, against the 1,000 or more that are run in 2014, take the distribution from 500 meetings run back then, compare it to the 1,000 or more meetings run now, allow for inflation over the last 20 years, and then you would know the real health of the industry.

    If the race clubs aren't getting more than double, allowing for inflation that they were getting back then, then the increases in prize money, in NSW's case as a result of a court victory against the Corps, NOT as a result of added  TAB distribution, is just a fallacy.

    I remember when the Daily Double pool on Olympic Park Greyhounds in Melbourne was $150,000 every Monday night, at a time when 150 large bought you a house. Now, it's luck to get up to 30 grand. 

    The quaddie has gone from about 600 grand 20 years ago in Melbourne, to around 1.3 million now. $600 grand would buy you 4 houses in a really good suburb 20 years ago. 1.3 million might buy you one and a half.

    I reckon that wall to wall racing, which we don't all have to bet on, has killed the quality of the game, and has not increased betting turnover on a like for like basis, at all. 

    If anyone has the capacity to do so, I'd love you to compare the turnover from a dog meeting at Cannington in 1994, and a trot meeting from the same year from Gloucester Park, and a race meeting from Ascot, with the turnover today. I bet that if you allow for inflation, turnover would be down.

    I'm happy to admit I'm wrong, if figures can be produced.

    Was going to say 3 people? leave the girlfriend at home and other hangers on just thought the promotion through Asia would be worth it needs a tourism sponsor by the sounds of it.
    Yes racing is dieing a slow death but they can squeeze life out of it for a while by rejigging a few things the trots has a great chance to build top level competiton over a number of weeks in the next few years if it cant do that they will be the first to go.
