Geepers the Doc certainly has the levers for pulling the tooth out. Fitter than most racehorses ...

I took a sh!t today, just like horses do, except not in a paddock and I wiped my arse.
I think that is just as relevant as Damien's posts on this thread.

Based on photos, I really liked the following lots from day 1
Lot 11 - Alfred Noble colt, nice type with lots of Encosta about him from the dam's side
Lot 24 - Blackfriars colt with Derby written all over him
Lot 51 - Choisir colt, looks like a real runner, Karrakatta type
Lot 54 - Another Alfred Nobel, great balance I quite like these A/Nobels
Lot 65 - War Chant colt, just oozes quality!
Lot 77 - Domesday colt, very much in the mould of his sire
Lot 87 - Sepoy filly, gorgeous filly & very much like the Sepoy's that were making big $$ at the Gold Coast.
Lot 93 - Snippetson colt, sooo much Snippets about him. Beautiful head, very short coupled, should run fast & early!
Lot 116 - Lope De Vega colt, very much like his sire, great strength. The stallion often throws a plain head
Lot 143 - Sebring colt, lots to like about this guy. Quality
Lot 150 - Moshe colt, stunning looking colt, his sire is as nice a stallion as I've seen & this guy looks very similar
Lot 151 - Blackfriars filly, wow!! If you want an Oaks filly look no further, love her!
Lot 156 - Oratorio filly, looks a lovely early running filly
Lot 159 - Benteau colt, reminds me a lot of the sire, lots of power there!
Lot 182 - Exceed & Excel filly, beautiful early running filly
Lot 193 - Blackfriars filly, again a perfect classic type by the sire

Lots there I know, but there really does seem to be lots of quality this year. Alfred Nobel interests me, the Dick Turpins are different types to what W.A. Is used to, will be interesting to see how they're received.
Would be interested to hear others thoughts on some of the above

:-? Nothing in the dam line that suggests she will stick

Overall not a bad Promo for the sales though ;)

Didn't see any Alfred Nobels on the tour today, hopefully during the week. Did see 106 yearlings from Yarradale, Gervase, Scenic, Mogumber and Gold Front. The bus heads down Serpentine way on Tuesday and Capel on Thursday.

It was an enjoyable day out, only soured by some vandalism on our return to four cars belonging to folks off the bus.

The Stud are very keen on her. Walks nice enough but you don't get a real close look at them at Scenic and their stock is best viewed at the complex.

Dale you are pretty cynical. I don't care who the Vendor is.

I'm waiting to see the stock. I have bought off people who have done nothing for me when they had every opportunity to stand up and say something, but they chose to keep their mouth shut.

You might be right there, the full sister didn't seem to get a trip. I don't mind some speed in the distaff is its a dominant staying stallion, a turn of foot at the end of a middle distance/staying race is ideal.
Smashing type in the pic though I tought

The picture certainly presents her as a good looking filly, however I am very weary of catalogue snaps [-X

Not my type so I will be no competition @Pimlico - now watch her go on and win the Oaks!  #-o

Saw a nice enough Alfred Noble at Alwyn Park, so that theory may not hold up.

Anyone on the bus yesterday?? How nice was the trade fair x crecy filly at blackwatch stud, how on earth did she not make the first session????? :-w

I was on the tour yesterday, as I have managed to take in all four days this year. Whilst the vendors really roll out the reception with lavish catering for a few, more thought needs to go into the actual parade as the last two venues were fabulous in catering for the people, but the yearlings just played up too much to really see them objectively.

I had never been to Botsky previously, but the vendor concentrated more on the yearlings and promoting his stallion, even flew a guy in from NZ who stands the horse and is familiar with his stock. The lady who presented the draft, whilst you couldn't hear a lot of what she said, actually tried to highlight the positives with each yearling in temperament, performance in the selling preparation, and some positives regarding conformation. Because the stallion of almost all of their draft is based overseas, the yearlings we were told were typical of his stock that he has thrown that were sold at Karaka.

Most vendors either say nothing, or have Grant Burns try his best and tell us what is already in the book or how the stallion is performing. Very few to my knowledge address the yearling being shown in front of you and leave subjective decisions to be made by those looking on.

I just found it to be a nice change from what normally happens.

Popped out to the sales this morning for what I thought would be nice quiet look at all the yearlings only one problem with my plan there was only about a 100 horses to look at , and all I thought was WHAT A JOKE obviously gone are the days of turning up on Thursday washing all the yearlings on the Friday ready for anybody on the Friday afternoon and over the weekend wanting a look .
Congratulations to the farms that had horses there especially Dawson Stud and Alwyn Park both professional outfits who know how to present a horse properly hope you both have good sales.

Anybody going to the complex just a hint take a dust mask and goggles as the sale company has got a crap load of shavings and it was blowing everywhere and if you buy a horse it may pay to get a lung wash done poor bastards.

I cannot wait until that complex is bulldozed as it is a DISGRACE it is way past its used by date, the poor sizing of boxes especially for Lot 20 she is a big girl and she is in a box built for a Shetland Pony.

Looks like Magic Millions have new attitude for WA the Wham Bam Thankyou Maam sales get the horses in sell them take their profit and get out of Perth asap.

I have now viewed at least once, every Lot on offer on Day 1. There are several standouts, a couple of them  I will not be bidding on, and the focus will be on others that hopefully can slip under the radar to a certain extent. One of the best horses I have seen is on Day 2 and barring something silly happening, I will be purchasing him. I'm really keen on a Day 1 filly, and a couple of Colts. There are probably more top end yearlings on offer this year than in many recent years. Vendors should be congratulated on both their breeding selections and how these yearlings have been presented.

I have retained a Vet for just today to examine around 16 x-rays and then those that pass will be given a comprehensive health check up, and finally pre-scoped if the Vendors co-operate. That should then leave I hope around 10 for my final buying list across several clients.

For those going to the cocktail party this evening, I have a small exhibition of photo's there, but the main part of the exhibition of 22 pieces will be on display in the Owners Bar from Tuesday morning. Again I'm giving away a 50cm x 75cm canvas to one person who either visits or votes online for their favorite.

Please drop by if you out there on sale day.

Good Luck Damien, hope you get what you want for the right prices...

is the fact that nearly 50% of the Dick Turpins born are in the sales a good sign or a bad sign.. ie - none of the breeders want to keep them for themselves or their regular clients?? Or the stud reckons they are going to get a great return from putting so many out there?

Granted the large majority are from Mungrup or agents on behalf of Mungrup Clients.. Just seems to be a high percentage in the one sale.

You answered your own question with the last sentence - most are Mungrups, and they're sellers.

yeah...first time I've noticed that...Looked at a few others and the ratio  is even higher..but same reason. Predominantly from the one or two studs that are aligned with the stallion....
