I hope that too VK. Just don't hope they contest a WAPC or Freo Cup prior. They won't. Seems the modern standardbred won't go that long. And hope they draw well In all the heats and more importantly the final. Would hate to see sometjingiss out on a final because of barrier draws.

That track at Menangle allowed those performances. Those performances are what the game is about. Yes, C0 racing on a big track is boring. But that today was extraordinary.

Pacers as good as those 2 shouldnt have any trouble overcoming bad barrier draws at GP G-Mac, I seem to remember Quinny drawing 7 the last Inters here!

There was a reason they reduced it to a 9 horse field. It was also ideal for him. The Quinn argument doesn't hold much water because there aren't many that have been that good at swooping.

Imagine him drawing 1 on the back line and never getting out.

A side benefit of having the Inters here will be that even a blind bat will be able to see that the track length is incompatible with contemporary racing, that the event will be too "draw" dependent for it to be a fair contest and that an upgrade must be attended to immediately.....immediately.
Of course, nothing will happen for decades...... firstly denial, then an enquiry, a taskforce, a feasability study, a marketing survey,  stakeholder input, several changes of government, half a dozen changes of Sports Ministers, all of who will receive hospitality packages and free tickets for the family and friends....and finally they will recommend (a) do nothing (b) resurface the track (c) paint the dunnies (d) built a track inside the grass track at the recently re-located State of The Art  Headquarters of Perth Racing in Dalwalinu (e) sell Byford, Wanneroo and anything else they can get their hands to reduce State Debt or (f) establish the Gina Rinehart Gloucester Park Home for Ageing Miners on the banks of the Swan River with resident managers Twiggy Forrest assisted by Rose Porteous.

Our Royal Lad it was Linc with PHIL crouching low in the cart. It was actually and indictement on the industry and the drug controls of that era.

Almost as bad as Our Ian Mac winning a Pacing Cup and fading into obscurity.

Oh my goodness, there's a name I'd rather forget, the Lindsay Harper trained Our Royal Lad. It was March 1996, an Interdominion Heat race night .....(Norms Daughter (beat Our Sir Vancelot), Desperate Comment (for Cran Dalgetty) and Master Musician were the winners for the record....it was the first race of the night, the track was officially a "dead" rating and an 8Y0 MO horse breaks a losing streak of 16 to smash the track record in 1.54.2 as a heavily backed 4/5 favorite. Almost snuck around unnoticed as it was the first of the night and the crowd hadn't filled out. I was leaning on the gate where they come back off the track and saw this thing absolutely fizzing around, as you say Aquanita, with Phil in traditional pose. That time was phenomenal at the time and Phil was a great judge of pace and horses traveled for him but seriously!!. Couldn't get a word out of him that night, just a shake of the head. The horse did have speed, no denying that, it had gone 1.57 and change a few times but had a heart as big as a split pea. Won a few races and about $70k over its career but it never went as well as it did that night. Phil only drove it twice...that win by 16m over Barunga Fox and 9m back to Misty Fudge and the week before when it ran 2nd going 1.59.9 over 2100m coming home in 59.3 on a good track. It was swabbed after its win, a race named the "International Animal Health Products MO".
At least Our Ian Mac ran placings to My Lightning Blue, Gosh and Bag Limit when he ventured to Moonee Valley.

    So which was better?
    Adore Me melting the clock?
Or Beautide just doing his usual on the top shelf when it matters?

    No contest; Beautide.

Times are impressive to look at but they mean squatdoosh. I remember some filthy thing of Lindsays, done up nicely no doubt, breaking the TR at GP and never winning another race. Our Royal........Coulsen drove it I think.
Didnt michael brennan a olympic gold medal winner say on facebook that it was the best sports achievement hes witnessed.

What happened to your horse was a tragedy canardlywalk. Don't take it out on me.

Go for a run, punch a tree, do something to get it out of your system. It must be excrutiating to have one that good and it get taken out from under you. I can't empathise because I have never been in the position to have a top liner like snoop.

As fo SSL, I am not bacingk Panella nor am I blaming her. Have a chat to Shane Tritton. She drives to his instruction (hunt them out and let them roll). I said before the event that I won't back the horse in anything further than a mile. The fact he started so short shows there are some very poor judges out there who should donate money to charity rather than the TAB.

    I can't agree G.

10 races and not one horse came from further back than 4th at the 400m to win. The track is too big.

    You found the meeting boring?
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,677 posts

It will be all one line JJ, so only as draw dependant as every other track that has one line.

Can't agree with that. The straight at GP is short. Drawing 9 at GP is a bigger disadvantage than 9 at Pinjarra etc.

As for your first comment gmac, just got back from a run and no trees left and my hands are sore. But every now and again the pain takes over or the wine (who would have thought it would take 366 days to let rip)
As for the stewey race made me laugh. Was going to lay but in the end fell asleep after the delay (and im not even 30 thats how good the coverage was).
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,677 posts

The coverage was pathetic. The hour that was shown on Channel 9 was far superior. Who would have thought that the naming rights sponsor of the event and the track would give it such poor coverage? Bumping a group one race to Sky2. Fair dinkum.

As for SSL. He is all speed and no guts. When out of his comfort zone he goes to pieces.
