Pretty sure the same thing happened in the Idyllic Prince Stakes a month or do ago

Actually ok with it as it suits our program better (2.5 x 2.5 weeks between runs, rather than 3 to next one).
Those that were likely to drop back to the 1,200m on Saturday it's stuffed up.
Still wouldn't be surprised to see BHB run Saturday instead. Would have just left him in today pending the draw / field for Saturday.

after looking at this mornings west on page seven it looks to me that the two riders out there having a look at the track seem to be apprentices if so surely senior jockeys should have been out there or were those kids just having a look for themselves

Senior jockeys were the first to inspect the track. The kids came out a bit later just to have a look.

Cancel Saturday races because of state of track, and then hold a 10 card meeting 5 days later on same track.

    DOH!!!!!!

Biggest thing missing at Ascot is a phone booth, that way Superman can come and get changed and save us

I spent 3 years working as a groundsman a few moons ago at a track in the north island of NZ. The curator was a local farmer. He had first hand knowledge of the local soil structure, weather, temps and just what animals do to pasture. He knew how to fix the problem and foresee upcoming ones. Now days it's all a certificate passed online. How the hell would someone that prepares a cricket wicket understand the damage a 500+kg animal can do to a line of turf?. Local dairy farmers are going broke, I am damn sure one of them would cost less yet do a much better job than has been done. Such a shame we now need a blue card to say we are capable of putting one nail in a fence just to fix it.

Boys in mens suits comes to mind J a L. Bureaucratic **** also springs to the fore.

I will wait until the independent auditors report is released before sinking the boots in like most here have queued up to do.

The words "safety concerns" were apparently mentioned and if this is so then the Stewards had no choice other than to call the meeting off.

You have to wonder  :-?  - a quick roll with the aerator on Sunday - and it **** down with rain - the track passed a "searching" test gallop Monday morning and 10 races today and haven't heard a thing about safety concerns as yet.

Rail is listed as 12m for Saturday - if it stays there and they race then this curator is a genius - unsafe and unsuitable for racing one Saturday then OK 7 days later :-??

X( X(- (I digress I know) but FFS it is becoming fkn ridiculous - snotty nosed farqwits that haven't done a days work in the "real" world, get a ticket (using tax payers money as a loan) that are now making the rules we all live by

I could rattle off thousands - as could anyone that works in OH&S or knows what a JSA is

This is one from the BCA ( Australia's building codes) and doesnt apply to your home

"The latch of every exit door shall be readily openable without a key from the side of that faces a person seeking egress. It is to have a single downward action, have a clearance between the
handle and the back plate of between 35 – 45mm, and to be located
between 900mm and 1.1m from the floor."

This type of lock can basically be jimmied open from the outside with a popstick.
The theory is - we cant risk some-one getting caught inside if a fire starts and cant get out.
The only person(s) this is likely to happen to is a thief in the middle of the night - but thieves are people and have rights too.
So therefore all the factories, warehouses, workshops, retail shops  etc etc you see with more than one lock or a deadbolt on the outside of the door are illegal under the BCA

    Its fukn lunacy X(

@legless It's also a requirement in warehouses to have fire doors and they only open one way so you can have as many locks on roller doors etc as you like. That's all the fire inspectors care about-along with the fire extinguishers etc when they do their inspections. Residential properties don't have fire doors and if a fire starts in the middle of the night you don't want to be looking for a deadbolt key to make your escape.

Its not only warehouses - all buildings class 2-9 (not your home)  - there are exceptions - banks being one ( not likely a thief would try and blow something up there and start a fire =))

its not the fire inspectors or the Building surveyors - most of them are pretty cool and "turn a blind eye".
I have heard they lobby the BCA on certain stupid regs to no avail.

However if you own a factory over 200m2, have 2 cheap locks on your door and a thief/vandal drops through the roof in the middle of the night, starts a fire and can't get out you are farqed.

There is a good chance the Coroner will find you culpable and you will do time

According to the Melbourne Turf Consultant hired by Perth Racing the Ascot track is "well rooted". Surely we didn't need him to fly over to tell us that.

That statement could be both a compliment and a criticism...was there a comma in there somewhere? Help a brother out :-/ :-??
