Potentially a great night of racing with a sensational 4YO race with Menin Gate, Beaudienne and a strong supporting cast as well as 5 or 6 genuine chances in the Parliamentarians Cup A very preliminary look at things:
Heat 1.... Well, the draw has thrown up all sorts of possibilities. I think it is Waylades to lose but Machtu could hold the key. Does he hold up from 1, has he got the gate speed to do so, does he defer to Waylade or wait for speed to come across. Devendra may well cross and lead, can Waylade breeze and win? I think so.
Heat 2...I'm thinking Flaming Flutter and Lenny will come out running which migh set it up for the swoopers... My Hard Copy...haven't liked Classic Americans last few runs but if Lenny is as good as they say, he should win.
Heat 3...Bettors drawn to win but is he at his top? Mach Beauty sure to search for the lead and Avonnova drawn to perhaps sit behind the leader of 3 back the pegs. Tough race...hope the Irish horse is more competitive than at Northam where he didn't seem anywhere near good enough. Philidelphia Man has lost favour after being touted as a potential champ. Either way, shapes as a contest. Could Lovers Delight be up to this class from barrier 1? Hmmm
Really looking forward to some gloves off racing.

This 4yo series is a cracker. Looking forward to it and fast forwarding 12 months to see them all come back again for the ID. There's some serious speed and real grit in this field Friday and I think it is the race of the night.

Call it the Panella / Im Victorious doesn't have a career anymore rule, the brevity of her suspension was a joke.

I see LP was up to her old tricks again last sat night leading into a inters and now suspended again.

What price would IV have been considering the fact the series has fallen away so far. Such a shame.

The 4yo race is a beauty. Boaz may have the front line draw but is he really going as well as he has in the past to deserve being $1.60. Looking forward to seeing Menin Gate.

    Bring on the italian stalls

From reports Cruz Bromac is VERY handy.

A bit each way for me @ $10

  • JayJayJayJay    8,624 posts
Nuala $6.50 and Ideal Alice $13 in the mares race seem pretty good value...Leda McNally has the draw but will be pressured and no value for me. Agree on Cruz and  Menin Gate at $4.70....a query on him first up and getting around GP but he is some horse. If Devendra can cross and lead, there is value at $7 odd. Mach Beauty has to lead to win....can Lovers delight trail and place at some value? Lots of questions to be answered tonight and very keen to see how it all unfolds...Potentially the best night's racing for a long time.

Alot will depend on the track - last week it was a screaming leaders track - virtually impossible to make ground from behind

I think the best bet tonight on an each way basis is Our Black Bird - $11 fixed - i just hope they keep the lead aernt in awe of Lenny The Shark - whos being  hyped up after a 1700 metre sprint win

Our Black Birds last run at Bunbury was 1st class - it was that leader dominated race - Smokey The Bandid sat 3 pegs and ran 3rd - O B B was 3 wide with cover and ran 6th - it was a terrific run given the closing sectionals

If it is driven to lead and  win -(not run 2nd and collect points and good prizemoney) then i think it will be winning

In the vicinity of the 100 metres when attempting to improve GAIUS CAESAR NZ (L Panella) shifted out onto POPFROMTHEBEACH which was checked and raced roughly when contacting the sulky wheel of GAIUS CAESAR NZ. After considering the evidence and reviewing the official vision L Panella was found guilty of a charge under Rule 163(1)(a) in that she caused interference and her licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight. In determining this penalty the Stewards recognised that L Panella had not been charged under the Rule since February, 2014.

Devendra, oh that is nice. For once I hung tight and stuck. It is a different ball game but still a fine effort from Waylade but you can't bully them at this level.

Bettor Reward wow.....last run was an abberation to his 6 picket fence but he simply blitzed them with those last 800 sectionals. Blind sided me a bit....a lot actually haha.Menin and Cruz had no chance given the way it panned out.

LennytheShark will have to be very special to win especially if he can't lead!!!!

And very good he was....smart drive with what he had under him but odds on from that draw not for me. Was going Flaming Flutter but Markovina talked me into E/w Our Black Bird and thank you for that. Really enjoying the racing albeit dominated by on pace runners, no surprise there. And a few shekels in the pocket always helps. Classic American not a bad effort.

Now for the mares....Milly Perez is smart, Nuala good value, Ideal Alice some chance, case for Leda...another great race.

Good work Lovers Delight, even better Philidelphia Man...his best effort for a while and G.Lang drives okay doesn't he? Hard to be disappointed with the nights racing. Looking forward to being at Bunbury for the mile heats. Avonnova pretty good run for an old fella.

What are your predictions from here JayJay ??
  • JayJayJayJay    8,624 posts
Well, the locals are back down to earth, the Eastern Staters are smiling...but it is a tough series and the draw is very important. Think the mile at Bunbury will suit gate speed horses....really liked Devendra...no headcheck, no accessories, a lovely clean going horse. Lenny and Philidelphia did work and both won pretty convincing and a few West Aussies way out of their depth. Our Black Bird even threw in a few wobbly ones in the straight, Billies A Star looked really uncomfortable,My Hard Copy not even close...Mach Beauty didn,t fire. Classic American a nice run. Waylade looked under a bit of pressure.....wait till we get barrier draws for Bunbury...they should humm along down there...can't wait. Doesn't seem to be a great deal of interest on here, other than your good self and a few other regulars but I am liking the return to the old format. I think the tracks shortcomings are being exposed but what we have is what we got, so I am just living with that and enjoying the ride......and a rare winning night thanks to Devendra. Glad I stayed out of that Mares race....just couldn't work out who would beat Leda McNally ...and nothing did!!!

JJ Can you tell me a bit about the background of Our Blackbird, and can the bird make the final ?

Many thanks JayJay I live in Melbourne and I find your racing very exciting - they run from start to finish! Watching on sky channel the crowd numbers look great. I am on LennytheShark and hoping he can continue to improve - well done backing Devendra!

Gavin Lang , Chris Lewis and Chris Alford a delight to see in action. At the 'veteran'stage but still masters of their trade.

The Irish horse Meadowbranch DJ is an embarrassment. The promotion of an overseas entrant has failed dismally. It should have been withdrawn from the Inters after that Northam effort.

Did someone from here actually go to the UK and  deem this horse would be competitive for the Inters? Melbourne Cup may have welcomed Vintage Crop but this horse is vintage crap.

Our Black Bird....well he has been around the block. Started off life racing (without success, no wins) down in the South Island (Gore, Wyndham Race Course etc) ....right down the bottom just north of Invercargill. By Bettors Delight....bought to Australia and immediate winner for K.Manning but nothing outstanding ...won open class races at Melton like the Young Pedro and the Golden Reign FFA, the Echuca Cup...$20 to $25k races before shifting to WA with Ross Olivieri. I saw him win a $25k race at Bunbury (The Rotary Pace...one of those transferred GP races when the track was being re-cambered) and no mistake, very handy horse but short of top class I think. If he keeps getting good draws, then he can make the final but wouldn't challenge in my view. Not putting him down at all, 90 starts, 18 wins, 24 placings, over $237k in stakes, good honest type. Did notice him "skip" noticeably in the straight tonight but could be nothing. Can't see him threatening.
The less said about Meadowbranch the better...its a nice story but that is all it is, he is nowhere near it, running 50 metres last in a C2 at Northam says it all. Just hope he stays out of the way. Look up You Tube and evaluate the standard over there, it ain't high.
Will be interested to see whether the clearly underdone Bettors Fire takes benefit or harm from his run tonight. It is a test of durability this format and the tough will survive...expect some will fall away with 3 runs in a week. From my view, the tempo was up tonight in spite of a few easy quarters but GP is a Speedway track and they do run time but very leader biased. Local horses that were "strolling" to easy wins found it a lot tougher tonight and that is what Inters Racing is all about.

Rattray's drive on Devendra was just vintage Rattray. Great hands and he rates them beautifully. They were big wins from P Man and Lenny. Tough to tramp three wide when the heat goes on and they did it well. Avonnova was very good. The start formation is a big plus for gate 10, you can choose who you follow through and Graham did that perfectly. I found some of the locals disappointing but there is plenty of racing to go. Good night of racing and it will only get better over the next fortnight.
