BRISBANE RACING ON RACING.COM?

East Coast Racing
Apparently, discussions have taken place between the Brisbane Racing Club and Racing.Com which currently only televises Victorian races, about joining their coverage.

It appears that the  Brisbane Racing  Club are not at all happy with the coverage they are receiving on Sky. Unfortunately for BRC, the actual contract was signed with Sky, by Racing Queensland representing all the race clubs in Queensland, and it is hard to see how they can get out of it. BRC reckon that there have been breeches in the contract and that's their out.

I wouldn't put any money on them being successful, but in this day and age, you never know.

RWWA should do the same thing and I think it's inexplicable that seemingly other avenues weren't explored.

Well, Carey was right and I was wrong. He said there was no bookie at Murray Bridge and that was last week. However, I will sort of qualify that by saying that I based my "knowledge" that there would be a bookie in Warren Barrington working there on the South Australian Bookies Web Site.

As far as the dispute goes, I could only put it down to stand fees. and payments, because that's what it's usually about, or the club have decided to put the one bookie who works there, in an unworkable position.

Mind you, looking at the Unibet site, there were no flucs available for the first two races, but they became available from race 3. They could be Unibet's own set, but they don't look like it. Perhaps the bookie and the club settled their dispute.

Happy to be corrected if anyone knows.

Are we going to end up with a separate channel for each state's racing coverage? :)]
  • AndrewCarterAndrewCarter    2,171 posts
Before anyone jumps down my throat I only raise this because of the manner in which WA racing is continually treated with contempt by Sky and has been for many years.
Surely the manner in which our racing is being treated is in violation of the spirit of the contract and there we should explore if that potentially voids the contract and assess if there are other options.
I would think that would be the most responsible and beneficial outcome for the industry long term rather than just putting up with the contemptuous manner in which our industry is continually treated by Sky.

it's a two way street though.
wa cares nothing about getting away on time, so sky rightfully relegates them to sky 2.
sky has wa by the short and curlies anyway, is what i am led to believe.
and do you believe racing.com would be in the slightest interested in having wa on their channel?

in fact andrew, i am positive that rwaa does not give 2 hoots about wa racing or they would....... start fixing the timers that never work.
fixing the sections that never work
fixing the photo finishes that work .000005% of the time.
....instead it is obvious they are running down the product, to me it is anyway.

Agree with Carey on this one Andrew.

You can't treat the public with contempt as Perth racing do by not starting your races on time, and expect the coverage that you would love to have.

I, and many others, have complained about the lateness in starting races in Perth, on another thread and nothing has changed.

Yes, I can pay $5.00 and get channel 520. But why should I. I'm already paying $160 a month for the Platinum package, and I see that $5.00 extra charge, as an insult. It should be part of that package. So fk em. I won't pay it.

If and when I do have a bet on Perth racing, I leave it till virtually the last second. Firstly, because I want to see if the $3.50 into $2.40 chance in the ring, is being hawked at $4.00 on Betfair. The fact that I,think it's a certainty on form facts and figures, goes straight out the window when I see that. I'd also rather miss the top odds bet, but at least know that, according to what is going on, on the Fair, mine has got a reasonable chance of success.

And Secondly, if I can't watch the race live, I am very very reluctant to bet.

The blackout on racing a few years ago, was proof that I'm not alone in doing that.

It would be a very interesting exercise to see how much actual turnover is lost to Perth racing, when, around two minutes before a race is due to start, Good old Marto in the Sky studio, says "It's obvious that Ascot will run late, so we are flicking them across to 520, and we are crossing to Bernie at Doomben for the late mail".

What you find, is that the horses are milling around at the barriers at Doomben, the race has still got 4 minutes until start time, yet they will flick Ascot, because it is quite obvious that Ascot will run late.

When it has happened, and it happens quite often, what is extremely annoying is that Ascot will invariably jump, just as the first horse is being loaded into the barriers at Doomben.
Yet, Sky on 519, won't cross to Ascot, even though the two venues could have been shown live on 519.

Bottom line, is that it's Perth's fault. If they don't care about TAB turnover on their meetings and the commission they lose on lost turnover, fair enough.

But with great respect, neither they nor anyone else for that matter, should complain for a self inflicted problem.

And believe me, as everyone on here should know, I am not a fan of Sky.

Neither am I , I firmly believe that the decline of Australian racing coincided with the introduction of Sky , which has chosen to have an uninvited iron fist into racing, and will undoubtedly  bury Australian racing.
Sky is a parasite on an industry and will leech it until there is nothing left.

So a bloke called @bookielover would pay $160/month(which is itself, excessive) for the premium foxtel package but won't cough up an extra $5 for horseracing? Must be a fan of that Kardashian show? :)] :-?
